Excited about Clinique 3-Step

I usually use whatever I can get hold off for my face, budget really doesn't allow much.

I have very, very dry skin which is sensitive as I also have eczema. Been wanting to try this for a long time and it's just been bought for me as a gift. :)

I have the type 1 kit and can't wait until tomorrow so I can test it out!

Not wanting to piss on your parade, but I found it very harsh, especially the toner. Stripped my skin of natural oils and left it very dry. be interested to hear how you get on with it, though!

VickityBoo · 17/03/2012 16:19

That's fine I've read mixed reviews online. The salesperson gave me an 'it's not a toner it's an exfoliater) pitch I hope that's true!

Can't have it until tomorrow though!

A lot of people hate it but it totally sorted out my combi skin,I did the 3 step religiously when was about 20 and have had good skin ever since.

I'd still be using it but dh nicks the soap and that freaks me out

QuinnFabray · 17/03/2012 16:26

I quite liked it, which is high praise from me. I have oily skin, and was type 3 I think. I quite liked the wash, and I didn't hate the toner stuff. It was fairly eye watering, but I didn't have any adverse effects from it. I really like the moisturiser, and still buy that.

I would say it did improve my skin up to a point, but didn't sort it out completely, and I have since moved on to other stuff that I like better. Still love the moisturiser though.

AmberLeaf · 17/03/2012 16:31

I love it, yes it can seem harsh but your skin will probably be fab.

The toner is harsh, but if I could only afford 1 of the 3 step bits, id go for the toner...sorry clarifying lotion !

Mrsrobertduvall · 17/03/2012 16:33

Agree with everyone 's comments about the toner.
Clinique is too harsh for me...drop hints about Dermalogica next time!

VickityBoo · 17/03/2012 16:33

I can't afford it either. That's why it's quite exciting!

Tranquilidade · 17/03/2012 16:36

I think it is maybe better on oilier skin. Mine is dry and although it didn't irritate I just felt it didn't really do anything for me IYSWIM. I switched to Liz Earle who has products you can use in the same way and find them much better for me.

Hope you like it though OP

VickityBoo · 17/03/2012 16:38

Thanks. Well I'm excited to try it anyway! It will make a change and it came in a cute little bag

Awww vickityboo I hope it works after a whole load of crap threads on MN today I find your genuine excitement a breath of bloody fresh air.

The5thFishy · 17/03/2012 18:02

Dermalogica is better on sensitive skin.

pushingthesenses · 17/03/2012 19:23

It's been my religion since I was 19
44 now and look.......well 44 but great skin.

ChablisLover · 17/03/2012 19:42

Loved the soap - dh stole mine too!!

Had to use the mild no alcohol toner as the others were v harsh on my skin

Mousturiser v good

Loved all about eyes/ lips - do they still make these?

Livergirl1981 · 17/03/2012 19:44

The toner/exfoliator burned my face it was so harsh but each to their own good luck!!

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 17/03/2012 19:53

I'm a fan of Clinique 3-step. It made my skin really radiant and glowing.

One thing I wish I'd known about from the start was the rinse-off make up remover. I'd been using the foaming cleanser to take make up off and then again to cleanse the skin, and of course it didn't last very long.

I agree that if I could only afford one thing, I would choose the clarifying lotion.

Karbea · 17/03/2012 19:55

Clinique has changed my life since Christmas. I'm using the anti blemish 3 step.

I had been using elemis and before than marini. So all expensive stuff.

I'd moved house and just thought age, new water etc had caused my dreadful dreadful skin.

My bro got me a combination 3 step for Xmas and I ended up staying at my parents over Xmas with no beauty products, I was worried about using clinique as it smelt harsh and I'd used it as a teenager. After one days use my skin already looked visible better, dh even commented.

Anyway cut a long story short I ordered a tester size of all the anti blemish 3 step and haven't looked back.

I do t think I'll ever use anything else again.

Sassee · 17/03/2012 20:31

Just keep it the hell away from your eyes! It took all the skin off around mine. I am scarred from wearing sunglasses in the middle of winter and going into the massive Boots in Brighton to complain. I was padding around the counters like Stevie Wonder, not my best look!!

lololizzy · 17/03/2012 21:24

toner was like acetone on my skin

astreetcarnamedknackered · 17/03/2012 21:58

Please don't do it. You have been seduced. Lovely silver lids! Nice colour bottles! Clarifying lotion!

When I was 25 I decided I needed to grow up and use a department store line.

Clinique led me down a slippery slope. My then normal fair haired skin type ie a bit dry, prone to sensitivity became über sensitive, spotty, and unpredictable. I actually put up with it for ages as didn't want to waste the products.

I Then fell for the fucking 'dermalogica is WAY better and less HARSH' line. Got a facial. Got sold a heap of products. Essential oils yes, but some not good for my, by then, really sensitive skin. Also, take a look: lots of harsh chemicals- sulfates galore. Dry dry dry skin WITH ACNE.

Basically the trick they pull is to 'diagnose your skin' then 'prescribe' their lines. The routine is the same: cleanse with what is essentially engine degreaser (effect: dry out your skin); tone/clarify (effect: astringent on skin, remove all trace of natural healthy oils); then moisturise (effect: clog your skin with heavy crap which then causes terrible acne/under skin pimples. THEN Clinique sell you make up to cover your shit skin up!!!! Dermalogica even do a tinted moisturiser.

Basically I'm pleading with you not to get too excited. PM me in month or two and I'll bet you have five new spots, cysts on your jawline and parched slightly red skin. The same happened to my cousin Incidentally. Exfoliated so much after she started getting the pimple fest (they 'prescribed' a spherical bead 'gentle' exfoliator) she got contact dermatitis.

Finally, when I decided enough was enough I got liz earle cleanse and polish and gave my skin a break from toners and moisturisers. Breakthrough.

Two years later my skin is still lovely. I now moisturise in moderation but keep to minimal product. Skin natural oils.

Don't let the ladies in white coats kid you.

astreetcarnamedknackered · 17/03/2012 22:01

Oh, and don't get carried away with their cute bags/bonus time. Please don't do it!!!

AmberLeaf · 17/03/2012 22:04

If it was like that for everyone no one would ever buy it!

IHeartKingThistle · 17/03/2012 22:06

It has done wonders for me, but I have oily skin.

AmberLeaf · 17/03/2012 22:10

My skin is fairly oily, its great on my skin.

My mum has very sensitive fair skin, she at 60 odd has amazing skin, she had been using Clinique since her mid/late 30s.

I first used it after my mum introduced me to it, I have never been 'seduced' by the ladies in white coats! Grin

Clarins on the other hand gave me awful cystic lumps and is crap IME

rookiemater · 17/03/2012 22:34

What age are you OP ? Clinique is designed for youngish skin. I used to use it and found the toner harsh, but ok if used every other day.

Clarins is fabulous, I keep trying to go cheaper but their night oil is amazing.

Moodykat · 17/03/2012 22:38

I was seduced too, some years ago, and it did not agree with my skin at all!
I actually emailed Clinique and explained the red, sore mess my skin had become and they sent me a cheque (after I sent my receipt) to cover what I had spent! They get kudos for that!
