Boob job

Helo all - wanted to get some opinions on any mums who have had boob jobs and if they would recommend them? I've been considering this for a while as my breasts are completely screwed after two babies And breast feeding. Really damaging my
confidence. I know it's such a massive procedure though and one I wouldn't undertake lightly!

i couldnt lift the children or push the pushchair for a few weeks, so i planned it for the beginning of the summer holidays so i could chill at home. My dp worked from home for that time and i had help from my mum.
Recovery time varies according to what type of procedure you have

Heswall · 17/03/2012 10:47

I had an uplift and inplants, nipple removed etc I don't think you could get a lot more done than I had and it was fine after a few days.

DinahMoHum · 17/03/2012 11:21

if your implants are under the muscle its a longer recovery than in front of the muscle. If you were fine after a few days, did you have overs?

Wrenner · 17/03/2012 11:22

My parents live 5 hours away so may have to rope them in for help. Getting alot of positive vibes though from what people have said. Did anyone have infection problems??

I had a consultation in April, and was told that implants have to be replaced every 10 years. Are you saying I was given wrong information?

DinahMoHum · 17/03/2012 11:55

you should prepare yourself that they might need changing, but most modern implants have a much longer life than that

Wrenner · 17/03/2012 12:01

Where was you're consultation?

I have been considering it. However my collegue had an uplift and because she smoked the nipple didn't heal and fell off. She has had 5 corrective operations, 2 more planned and painful skin grafts from her thigh.

Heswall · 17/03/2012 12:36

Don't smoke then, simples

I think if you were having a BA to address lost volume after breastfeeding they would usually recommend overs, which is what I had. Uplifts carry more risk of complication than a BA. I did not need pain killers. You do need to sleep on your back for about 6 weeks, in a slightly raised position though and also need to keep tape on for about a week (to allow time for the implants to adhere to the surrounding tissue). That is a bit of a pain but still worth it.

Capsular contracture is the main risk of a BA but a good surgeon will do all they can to avoid the risks of it.

perceptionreality · 17/03/2012 12:56

I paid 4250 I think.

Sparklegeek · 17/03/2012 13:46

I too had mine done through Mybreast, did an AWFUL lot of research & went with them for their lifetime aftercare policy & because I really had a lot of confidence in the surgeon, who was registered with all the appropriate 'bodies' mentioned above. He also did a lot of NHS reconstructive work as well as his private stuff out of a lurvely hospital in St John's Wood, London. Mine cost £4200 I think, in 2008.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 17/03/2012 18:54

It was Transform that said the implants would need to be replaced every ten years. Someone up-thread said to avoid them...what's the reason?

Heswall · 17/03/2012 20:02

Well yes transform would say that wouldn't they ? I would avoid them because it's like a production line on any given Saturday they are performing a number of operations and whilst I am certain the surgeons will spend as long as they need to on each individual I don't like the idea personally. Us their after care isn't renowned

perceptionreality · 18/03/2012 12:08

I got my surgeon through MyBreast too - I found them very good - it is a way to get a very good surgeon for a lot less money. The surgeon who did my operation would have cost about 7k through Bupa I think.

Wrenner · 18/03/2012 12:10

Transform were the ones that called me all the time and put me off. Decided to get them done at bupa/spire as I feel surgeons will b better.

perceptionreality · 18/03/2012 12:13

I remember Transform were trying to get me to book in for an operation within a week - I felt I needed more time to make sure I had the right person for me. The surgeon I saw there made it sound like he was going to be stuffing a teddy! It all put me right off. And now with all the PIP stuff I feel I had a lucky escape.

topsi · 18/03/2012 12:37

I know some one who used Mybreast and was very happy with the result and her care. I would also say to avoid the large companies as they do hound you after your consultation with endless phone calls etc (my friend went for a consult with them). You only initially get to see a nurse as well who is only really able to give you an estimate of cost and an idea if you are a suitable candidate or not.
I would reccomend going to some one who has been personally reccomended to you.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 18/03/2012 13:49

I didn't get hounded by Transform, but I did feel like there was a quick consultation and they expected me to sign up and book in after that, like someone mentioned stuffing a teddy!

DinahMoHum · 18/03/2012 14:01

at mybreast you see a surgeon for the consultation

Wrenner · 18/03/2012 18:05

When u have a boob job what do they do with Ur nipples???

OP posts:
Heswall · 18/03/2012 18:27

CHop them off and then stitch them back on again, carefully. I still breast fed so the nerve endings must have all been in tact.

DinahMoHum · 18/03/2012 18:40

if its a simple breast augmentation then they dont touch your nipples, they go in through the crease underneath your breast.

They only touch your nipples for an uplift or a reduction

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2012 18:42

Oh God, nothing to your nipples for a standard boob job! As Dinah said, they make the cut in the crease under each breast. You can't even see the scar if you have a good surgeon.

Wrenner · 18/03/2012 21:02

Ah ok. I want them smaller but is that a seperate procedure? Maybe they won't look so bad though when I have breasts to fill them !!
