Oooh that's strange I used it for the first time last night. I don't have large pores but do have blackheads and some light scaring I was hoping it would reduce the appearance of.

sidsmissis · 13/03/2012 13:02

I have been using this for ages. I think it took about a week to see a difference in my pore size, maybe a bit less. The longer it's used the better the effect. The humongous pores I had are now the size of the rest.

I recently bought a Clarisonic and that seems to work really well in conjunction with the Alpha H, much cleaner, brighter, smoother skin.

My top tip is not to apply it with a cotton wool pad. I just pour a bit into my hand and use my finger tips to apply it, then rub my hands together so my hands get the benefit. That way I'm not wasting what the cotton pad soaks up.

It's really important to wear a high factor suncream everyday, sunny or not. I use Mac Prep and Prime spf50.

MissFoodie · 13/03/2012 13:02

so if you used it last night for first time, what did your skin look like this morning? any difference?

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 13/03/2012 13:03

yes sidsmissis, I dabbed it on with fingers, never use cotton wool!

It looked a bit brighter and fresher and considering I didn't put moisturiser on it was very soft. No great miricle though. Bit disappointed I can't use it tonight TBH. Like Sidsmissis I have got a clarisonic too and it made a big difference to my skin but the priducts that came with it were a bit crap and it didn't get rid of all the blackheads so the Alpha H is my way of upping the ante.

I have been looking at this and am tempted but my skin is dry and a bit sensitive. Will my face look like I've been at myself with a brillopad? Grin

minceorotherwise · 14/03/2012 11:45

Ooh why, is it really strong? Any you can't use it at night?
I've just ordered some...so best top tips would be great....large pore issue mainly

Whitershadeofpale · 14/03/2012 12:55

You do use it at night but ony every other night or every 3 days.

MissFoodie · 14/03/2012 13:45

its fine, i have v sensitive skin and it didnt even tingle on me - you apply to skin (I use fingers), at night, don't put anything else over it, and repeat every 2 - 3 days;
I have round 2 tonight, hope to see something by tomorrow!

I've been using Paulas Choice weekly resurfacing treatment which is 10% glycolic acid.
I think Alpha H is 5%?

The weekly resurfacing gets v good reviews on makeupnalley, and I'ved used it once and think pores look better.

Also people on makeupalley seem to be using it a few times a week instead of once a week with good effects, so I think if your skin can tolerate it, it's OK to use more frequently for more intense treatments.

On days when I don't use it I'm using Paulas Choice BHA liquid, so alternating the exfoliators which I think is giving good results.

MissFoodie · 15/03/2012 10:55

used for 2nd time last night - no change this morning.............
am getting impatient

hiviolet · 16/03/2012 06:54

I'm a new convert to Clarisonic and it's made more of a difference to the appearance of my pores than any "peel" type product I've tried, and I've tried a lot!

Having said that, 10% glycolic sounds right up my street. Where can you find Paula's Choice products in the UK?

itchywitch · 16/03/2012 07:22

Nothing is going to reduce your pores - don't believe anything that promises otherwise (except perhaps roaccutane but that's hard core). Pore size is down to genetics. End of story.

That said you can improve the look of them and AHA's should improve your skin generally - but will take 2-4 weeks at a minimum!!

If you want a quick fix, the only thing would be to try something like clinque pore minimiser which is like makeup.

MissFoodie · 16/03/2012 10:54

I don't use any silicone based primers (or products) so will carry on as usual, will use the liquid gold every other night and see if any change over the next week. Have only been applying to nose and have to say, skin feels incredibly smooth, much more than after any exfoliator

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 10:22

used liquid gold last night for 3 rd time, today faces looks more or less the same....now debating whether to try Paula's Choice when this runs out, any opinions?

Am also being given a clarisonic so hoping that should help, does anyone use with cream cleanser?

and can you use this and then liquid gold?

OP posts:
fluffylegs · 19/03/2012 11:38

I think clarisonic can be used too but it's a bit of an assault on the skin. So perhaps alternate nights? Product pixie wrote about it if you look at her excellent blog.

I'm not sure about the PAulas choice but I'd say glycolic is much if a muchness. both brands seem to get good reviews don't they.

fluffylegs · 19/03/2012 11:39

Also 'they' say 6 weeks to test a new products efficacy so maybe wait a little bit...

MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 14:09

yes, being a bit impatient......
plan was to use clarisonic couple of times a week really, and def not on days when using the liquid gold...
here's hoping for clear pores!

i've recently used bravura's 30% GA peel. v v impressed (and i'm never impressed with skin stuff).

and it's sooo flipping cheap compared to the much weaker GA creams or having a salon peel.

MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 22:51

what?? where did you get it from????

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 22:57

omg just found their site, I didnt think you could buy 30% and 50% for use at home??? is it safe??

OP posts:
SeasonOfTheWitch · 19/03/2012 23:09

ha ha excited MissFoodie?! Grin we've bumped into each other on OCM threads before (but i was under my other alias so you won't know me now)

it seems to be safe, yes! i've only used it once (the 30%) and had no bad reaction/redness/flaking etc but the difference to skin brightness and lines was really very visible - my 11s have reduced by about 50% (honestly!) and i think my pores look a bit better too. you can do it weekly with a break every 6 weeks irrc (good info on their site and in the leaflet they send with it).

if you get it, make sure you get the neutraliser too.

a friend has done it a couple of times so far and she's been pleased with it too. she's a veteran of the 5-10% creams and i think she was surprised you could buy the 30%.

i guess the salons keep it pretty quiet...
