Shampoo for dry scalp - I've tried everything, please help!

I have had psoriasis my whole life. I feel like I've tried everything going shampoo wise to no avail. It just remains dry and flaky. I don't wash my hair every day so as not to aggravate it further.

Can anyone recommend anything that has helped them?

TIA

Try Amargan Hair Therapy Purifying Cleanser 300ml only use it twice a week and then massage the Amargan oil into the scalp afterwards works a treat! Good luck :)

Whitecat · 27/02/2012 11:47

You could be sensitive to sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate. Lots or people are so its worth trying shampoos without.

Green People Rosemary shampoo is good for itchy scalp. If you can get it in your local boots Naked Anti-dandruff is great too. And much cheaper.

MissFoodie · 27/02/2012 11:52

one of the best is Barefoot Botanicals SOS Shampoo

PoohBearsHole · 27/02/2012 11:53

My mum used to use a Tar based one, she has terrible psoriasis in her scalp, am not sure what she uses now but will try and find out.

Also have you tried any of the kerastase range? here might help to play on their website. Let me warn you their products are not cheap but they last for a long time (3-4 months for a bottle of shampoo that is about £15 ish) and it is good. Very good for sore scalps.

It also makes your hair feel lovely and helps with scalp, have used the biotic but am not sure if it is specifically for psoriasis. As I say, not cheap but worth finding a local supplier (usually a hairdresser) and talking to them about the product.

KwaziiHunt · 27/02/2012 11:59

I've started using the Naked Anti dandruff stuff linked above and it is good. No more itching from me.

AnonymousBird · 27/02/2012 12:18

Gosh, thanks all. There are some brands here I didn't even know existed so good to know about other products....

Last time at the hairdresser, they recommended the Kerastase one but I didn't get on with it, made no difference for me unfortunately.

I tried kerastase as well it didn't work for me. My hairdresser introduced me to the Amargan range there latest product advanced styler is amazing too, it contains keratin and has a 3 day hold....

the problem is you probably reacting to SLS and all brands like Kerastase/Supermarket contain it.
The Naked one mentioned above might work and is half the price of the one I suggested

AnonymousBird · 29/02/2012 09:23

Have ordered the Naked stuff... thanks for the tip.

PoohBearsHole · 29/02/2012 09:34

Let ius know about the Naked stuff, I appreciate that kerastase works for me but not everyone else but then my scalp is probably not as extreme so doesn't react to the SLS Foodie was talking about. But would be interested to find out how the Naked stuff works, especially as dd looks like she is getting an irritated scalp and all flakey too. Sad

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 09:40

Have you tried T Gel shampoo - it's fantastic. Then once it's under control the only thing that I can use is Head and Shoulders for coloured hair.

PoohBearsHole · 29/02/2012 09:43

valium that is the one my mum used/uses - was driving me mad trying to think. She has bad psoriasis and this really helps with the discomfort! OP I recommend this one too, although if I remember it doesn't have the nicest of smells Smile

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 09:45

There are new ones out now in the T Gel range which hardly smell at all - there is one for frequent washing. I was reading up on T Gel and apparently lots of people use it on their skin, leave it for a while then rinse off, as it is so effective.

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 09:48

I wash my hair with T Gel then wrap up in a turban and leave it for as long as possible then rinse it out again if my scalp is particularly bad.

AnonymousBird · 29/02/2012 09:52

Doh - I have tried TGel actually years and years ago, kind of had forgotten about that one!!!

Well, I will give Naked a try for a few weeks and see how we go and if for some reason, I'm still struggling, I will definitely try TGel again. I think it was of some use and also not too expensive IIRC. Gosh, weird actually, that is such a blast from the past!

It's about £4.50 iirc but I only have to use it now and again as the H and S is ok most of the time.

Frontpaw · 29/02/2012 09:59

Try to find a nice baby one. The body shop used to do a really good baby champoo and it worked for me until they discontinued it. The usual baby oned (simple, johnsons...) Do have the chemicals in them that can make skin conditions worse.

Try speaking to someone in your local health shop for something ultra kind to skin.

flipflopflap · 29/02/2012 10:26

I didn't get on with the Naked one, the only one that works for me, and doesn't make my hair look terrible is shampure from Aveda. Doesn't irritate my scalp or the eczema on my hands.

SuperDuperJezebel · 29/02/2012 13:30

I second the vote for the blue L'Oreal Elvive one, I didn't get on with the Kerastase or the Naked one unfortunately.

Parasaurolophus · 29/02/2012 13:37

I use:

Philip Kingsley for Dry Scalp and
[[http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Sea-Spa-Magik-Conditioning/dp/B000KUAJDS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330522421&sr=8-2

dead sea mud]]
and Moroccan oil.

This is probably overkill, yet my scalp is so very happy that I am not going to mess with it.

Interestingly, something (or everything) in this mix has restored my hair to a very curly state. I have mixed feelings about this, but as I don't spend my days scratching my scalp I'll go with it.

south345 · 29/02/2012 13:40

Tresemme naturals has no Sls in my scalp burns if I use anything else, plus my eczema on my hands gets worse, I ran out last week and my hands were agony until I got some more, it's half price in superdrug at the moment too.

ponyprincess · 29/02/2012 13:44

I have tried so many things, but the only one that has helped at all is Scalp Benefits from Aveda. Was pricey but totally worked!

Bearcat · 29/02/2012 13:56

I swear by T Gel. Had psoriasis from when I was young and this really works fr me. Never feel embarrassed having my hair done now.
Also Nizoral is another one to try incase the psoriasis could be dermatitis.

chutneypig · 29/02/2012 16:37

I find Big from Lush really good, but it does contain SLS. My 4 year old has been suffering really badly from flaking scalp and its sorted him out.
