Any recommendations please? Does need to be high spf. Not too worried about cost as I'm going to treat myself to something decent.

Clinique SuperDefense is good- spf 25- but I prefer to use Youth Surge and add their City Block spf 40 on top. Also do remember that any spf cream applied at 8am is not going to give you completet all day protection- just the same as spf sun lotion has t obe applied often throughout the day.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 15:19

cool - thanks Amelia - I'm used to doing the soltan 6 hour suncream, so its going to have to be a bit of a mindset change as I'm on medication which means I have to be really protected.

I use ultrasun and it is photostable (though it does say if you are very fair that you should re-apply part-way through the day). I use them head to toe and no longer suffer from prickly heat or 'pinkness'....brilliant stuff

Labootin · 24/02/2012 15:33

No7 anti dark spot Face protection is VG . I use the factor 50 ( live in dubai) but i think it comes in 30 snd maybe 15 and it's very lightweight.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 15:40

I nearly picked some of that up labootin, then thought I'd wait to see what everyone says. It did seem nice and light and a bit tinted.

mrsmartin - is it quite moisturising? I like the fact I wont need to keep applying that, but it would be nice if it did lovely things for me too. I dont normally use moisturiser - it would be good to kill 2 birds with one stone.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 15:40

Blush just read it - it does say its moisturising - is it true?

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Sun Defence for Face - it's SPF 50 and really moisturising and not greasy - you can get it in a few places, including Boots

ProjectGainsborough · 24/02/2012 15:45

What does photostable mean?

I mean, obviously it means 'stable in the light' but are we saying other sunblocks degrade or something?

I use Avene factor 50 and it is very nice, but I'm off now to research whether it's photostable...

ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 15:47

that elizabeth arden stuff looks good :) long lasting and a little bit posh.

OP posts:
ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 15:47

I guess that's what it means Project - perhaps that's why they need frequent reapplication.

Badkitten...I treated myself to this in SPF50. I love it. I am very fair skinned, freckled and it's great for everyday. Is sits better under make-up than any of the suncream formulas which are normally too greasy for my face.

mrsmartin · 24/02/2012 16:13

Yes that is what photostable means - with regular suncream you should be reapplying every hour or two to maintain the protection level. And yes - the ultrasun one is a moisturiser in its own right - the anti ageing formula has won loads of awards for just being a moisturiser. I find it good because a. other spf creams tend to make me break out, b. I can't be doing with re-applying all of the time. You put it on straight after your toner and leave it to 'bind' in your skin for 15 mins. Then you can put on the rest of your skincare (which I do) or just leave it as it is (which most people do). I've never used spf's that are anywhere near as good - the body protection is brilliant too.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 24/02/2012 17:48

that looks lovely wannabemeg :)

mrsmartin - you are a very persuasive lady!

I have used ultrasun but I have to admit I do have my concerns that sun creams that claim all day protection can actually do no such thing-they are not allowed to be sold in Australia-so I have read(somewhere) for this reason-so yes in theory they sound great but personally I do not trust such a claim-fair skinned or not. However I am still looking for my perfect facial sunscreen!!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 25/02/2012 16:10

I ended up buying ultrasun online. Nearly bought the elizabeth arden one at a counter but like a numpty forgot to to write down what I was looking for and was convinced it was Liz Early I was looking for.

OP posts:
MistyMountainHop · 25/02/2012 17:48

i bought the new loreal revitalift 10 the other day mainly as its spf20 but it has given me the spotty skin of a 14 year old :( ....which, on a 32 YO mum is Not A Good Look.

So am looking for a decent spf face cream as well

mrsmartin · 25/02/2012 17:58

fayeso...Totally see what you mean but ultrasun say it is based on an 8 hour day (hense I reapply half way through the day if on holiday). I think you just need to be responsible about sun exposure...sunbathing at high noon is just asking for trouble! But I still favour twice a day application over putting it on every 45mins Grin

ohyouBadBadkitten · 25/02/2012 18:01

will report back on how it is - soltan is giving me red stingy eyes so I hope that it doesnt do that.

This was last year's thread on the same subject Grin

thank you Faith - there are so many on that thread!
Kind of wish I'd bought the Elizabeth Arden one now - but for no rational reason other than it sounds a bit posher!

Vivian - thats a bargain Shock

On lookfantastic they normally do an offer where the Elizabeth Arden one is £28 for the suncream plus the regular face moisturiser (instead of £50-ish) so you can always wait for that and then tell yourself you are buying the moisturiser and it's just a really good free sample.

Whizkidwithacrazystreak · 25/02/2012 21:52

Blue Lizard is excellent. www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Lizard-Face-Australian-Sunscreen/dp/B000TGA0S2
However, it's not Australian, but I used it in Aus this summer andvwas left very impressed.

I also like www.heliocare.co.uk/ it's probably not as good but the finish is lovely, good for under makeup

pluckingupcourage · 25/02/2012 21:57

I need something with super high spf, that I can put under makeup without it melting off - something like a primer? Any thoughts?

mrsmartin · 25/02/2012 23:44

The ultrasun one binds to the skin - you have to leave it for 15mins before you can put on any other creams etc. Or Mac do a primer that is spf 50 but I don't know if it is photostable.

I wore my bare minerals last year in 50degree heat with mally primer underneath and it didn't melt off...
