where everyone has to wear those SHOUTY BARBOUR belted quilted jackets?

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 20/02/2012 20:41

Why buy some tat from Paul's Boutique when you can just wear a sandwich board saying 'I have no style' and ring a bell to get the attention you so desperately crave. Fucking awful shit.

carrotsandcelery · 20/02/2012 20:42

Oooh! The Christmas jumper leggings haven't made it this far north yet to our rural Scottish village. What a treat to look forward to. Grin

The quilted jackets have although it seem compulsory for all mums in the playground to wear virtually matching duvet coats just now so anyone could be wearing anything - or nothing at all!!

squeaver · 20/02/2012 20:45

If you think those are bad, wait till the shops are flooded with frigging PEPLUMS in a month or two. Kill me now.

janmoomoo · 20/02/2012 20:53

Haha MrsD, I initially thought the girls carrying "I heart P B" bags were fans of peanut butter. Wink

violetwellies · 20/02/2012 20:55

I still have my (Lavenham) :) quilted jacket from the first time round, the poppers no linger work. I wear It under a body warmer (cant bring myself to say 'gilet') for seeing to The animals :) The Christmas legging thing is I feel a step too far.
The mummies in fashion round here were wearing quilted Belstaff jackets about three Christmas ago. They wouldn't be seen dead in a cheap copy.

violetwellies · 20/02/2012 20:56

Bizarre capitals due to phone with independent streak.

gastonscave · 20/02/2012 21:04

Love my Barbour International Blush

CointreauVersial · 20/02/2012 21:08

I had never seen a Paul's Boutique jacket until I went down to Devon at half-term.

The whole county was awash with them.

Surrey seems to have escaped - they're all too busy modelling the pony club look round here.

DilysPrice · 20/02/2012 21:12

I rather like the Xmas jumper leggings. Heaven knows where they came from but they look warm and cheerful and round our way they're normally worn with decent length tops.

AgeingFop · 21/02/2012 09:15

I'm old enough to remember when Barbour jackets were popular back in the 80s. I seem to remember them being associated with a particularly vile sloan, young-Tory type. Haven't seen many around our way.

The Paul's Boutique things are also vile.

As for the leggings, I am divided. Seen them look good on some women - usually with a top that at least covers some of the bum. But a large number look awful in them.

HeteronormativeBuckethead · 21/02/2012 09:22

Last weekend I saw a teenage girl wearing the xmas jumper leggings, which were all saggy at the bum and had done that fallen crotch thing that toddlers' tights do where they can't take a full stride because the crotch is halfway to their knees.
I was staring like a google eyed old bat

It's so weird that they all seem to be happy to reveal their bums in public isn't it?

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 21/02/2012 09:45

I like the Christmas jumper leggings (which is such an excellent name btw) on young 'uns. Doesn't translate over well to the older generations so much imo, but whatever, wear what makes you happy.

ruby22 · 21/02/2012 09:46

The christmas leggings haven't made it here.....yet. But had a chuckle when I saw many quilted real and fake Barbour jackets in the school yard this morning!
Hate Pauls boutique stuff, is it an actual shop or just a brand? either way will never go near it.

theseventhdwarf · 21/02/2012 09:52

Oh god those goddarnawful Christmas /totem pole legging type things are everywhere here - with crop tops and half sweaters . And muffin tops hanging over them - nice Grin Who in their right minds .......??????

ruby22 · 21/02/2012 10:00

explain a half sweater for me please seventhdwarf, I have no idea what that is!

GhastlyBespoke · 21/02/2012 10:03

9 yr old in DSs class last week bedecked in

A Paul's Boutique quilted jacket
A panda hat/scarf combo with ears
A pair of Fuggs with a giant wedge heel
A Paul's Boutique bag.

I wanted to grab her Mother and slap her check she had eyes.

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 10:03

Jack Branning is sporting a quilted jacket on EastEnders. Sadly it make him look like a malnourished trainspotter.

welliesandpyjamas · 21/02/2012 10:18

ghgastly sounds just like a girl, same age, in my ds' class! It certainly gives me something to laugh inside about in the mornings Grin

theseventhdwarf · 21/02/2012 19:31

Half sweater is a cropped thing that resembles a sweater but looks like it s been robbed from a 4 year old (albeit a wide one as they are usually twice as wide as they are long )
< grumbly old hag emoticon>

NorkyButNice · 21/02/2012 19:46

I love the Christmas leggings but must confess that the only people I've seen wearing them were the girls on the eating disorder unit and I'd presumed it was because they were trying to keep warm. (indeed, I've spent the last 4 months in a psychiatric hospital so my taste is probably questionable!).

My ample derrière certainly would not be flattered by knitted leggings.

MinnieBar · 21/02/2012 19:50

Linky please so I can join in the judging

2ombie5layer · 21/02/2012 19:54

Round our way the Paul Barbour jackets are very chavvy or maybe thats cos I live on a council estate so it appears so

Funny thing is back in winter 2010 I worked for M&S as a christmas temp and their older lady section sold the quilted jackets. I had a customer buying one and asked me if I had one because they were "ever so nice" I said no, but I went home to DH and told him and we had a laugh about why I would get something so vile. Anyway it turns out that this lovely old lady (which she genuinely was) was very fashionable and obviously a trendsetter.

Grin at christmas jumper leggings. Will be calling them that from now on.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 21/02/2012 19:57

Christmas/Nordic leggings just for minniebar Smile

MinnieBar · 21/02/2012 20:22

Thank you ? anyone want to do a puffy jacket linky for me?

DilysPrice · 21/02/2012 20:27

Do actual shops with names sell Xmas jumper leggings? I only ever see them for sale in markets and "factory shops". I think it's rather exciting when bizarre trends like that crop up out of nowhere without the fashion magazines and the head buyer for Top Shop being able to do a thing about it.
