Problem with Uggs

cardoon · 18/02/2012 08:53

My big toe has created a thin patch - which, I fear, may break through.

Anyone had this problem - and found a solution?....they're still in good nick otherwise.

How quickly has it happened? I've got this on a pair that are about 8 years old Grin If they are only a year old or something you should contact the shop you got them from or UGG. They are really expensive and need to last a decent amount of time IMO.

If that is not going to be possible then I would apply a big square fabric stretch plaster to the inside of the boot and see how that helps. Maybe cut your toenails (joke)

youareallwrong · 18/02/2012 10:06

People who were Uggs walk funny.
Its both bad for your posture and health and gives you the sexy gait of a Yeti.

They are wearing through because you are putting weight in one place which normally you wouldn't and shouldn't.

Your problem is you are wearing Uggs.

Ditch them and buy a decent pair of footwear that gives you a bit more support.

cardoon · 18/02/2012 10:06

They're only 4 Sad.........had considered the barrier method - I fear it may be fraught with problems but is probably the only solution to extend life.

I would second contacting UGG, they should last must longer.
My dd3 got a pair for christmas 2 years ago and they are still great, I think she walks fine in them, although she did look odd in the pretend ones she had before the uggs Grin

cardoon · 18/02/2012 10:15

I doubt they would entertain me after 4 years.

Had the same problem after about a years use. Eventually got a hole in them, i got them re-stitched but that broke through too. Use them in the garden now. I agree they're really not good for frequent use.

OhCobblers · 18/02/2012 10:35

Exactly the same has happened to mine after 3 years - i could feel it happening and wished i'd thought of patching inside at the time.
I have a hole that no-one seems to want to attempt fixing.
Watching thread for any tips though i do think they're only good for the garden now - am loathed to ditch them.

ArtVandelay · 18/02/2012 10:36

I would still contact UGG even after 4 years, you never know - they might come back with a replacement. I think although they've gone all trendy Deckers still pride themselves on being rugged Aussie suppliers of tough things so if you word it right it might work I've got a 6 year old pair that still scrub up despite hideous abuse, 4 is not that old.

OhCobblers · 18/02/2012 10:36

bluesatin who re-stitched for you?

ArtVandelay · 18/02/2012 10:38

OOOH IDEA! Could you get a good cobbler to sew on semi circles of suede in the same colour over both boot toes.. customised UGGS! It might look horrid but you could try by holding the suede over first and imagining. It might actually look good.

Bluesatinsashes · 18/02/2012 10:41

My local shoe mender. He couldn't promise it would work and it didn't! I got a couple of months more out of them, before the stitching went too.

notapizzaeater · 18/02/2012 10:52

Mine wore through after 6 months - ugg told me I a- walked funny b - had the wrong size and c - needed to cut my toe nails !!! Not impressed, have tried sticking a patch inside but managed to "push it through" now just wear them with dark socks so not too noticeable ...

Watches with interest ..

ArtVandelay · 18/02/2012 10:53

6 months Shock Sad

mrsmartin · 18/02/2012 11:55

Having worked for an ugg supplier I think they are extremely likely to tell you to get fucked go away. Their general tack on the 'toe coming through' problem is that people have chosen the wrong size. To be honest - I would say that 4 years for a pair of uggs is relatively good-going as if you think about it - they are esentially just slippers with a thicker sole. Did you rainproff them every 6 weeks to maintain the integrity of the suede? Did you avoid wearing them out in the rain and the snow? Both of these factors combined would cause the suede to weaken and stretch at the point you put must pressure - which for you is the toe area.

By all means try ugg but I think your chances are pretty slim. If you want to go for something similar I would suggest the Emu Outback boots. Emu's are the original version of uggs (uggs just got the marketing right) and the outback is a much sturdier style. Emu also do lots of styles in water resistant suede now so if you get caught in a shower it won't affect them.

cardoon · 18/02/2012 13:43

Hey! mrsmartin, have been stalking you throughout MN to find out where you got your suede leopard flats from? (Ponyskin gives me the boke) Grin

OP posts:
anniewoo · 18/02/2012 17:30

Are they genuine Uggs or bought on internet? Uggs are too flat for me Sad but oh so cosy.

cardoon · 18/02/2012 17:33

The real thing - bought in the US so a bit cheaper than here.

OP posts:
mrsmartin · 18/02/2012 17:38

cardoon - I wear the russell and bromley kids ballet pumps - exactly the same as the adults ones but half the price (only go up to a 5 or 6 though and not sure what patterns they currently stock). Not all of the stores have kids depts but here is a link to their website which lists their kids depts phone numbers

Sorry for the hijack op - my advice re the uggs is above...

cardoon · 18/02/2012 17:47

I am the OP! Grin

Thanks MRSM, I need to get myself to a Russell & Bromley, Edinburgh nearest. I wonder why they've not gone into selling online?

I have the same problem ..and mine are only a few MONTHS old:( I have short nails and the boots are a perfect fit, but one foot is very thin over my big toe already. I am seriously unimpressed:( I love my uggs tho.. sob...

Heswall · 18/02/2012 23:34

Yes that has happened to me twice, DH blamed my horrible toe nails.

I am taking mine back to Costco for a refund, they really should last longer for £180

bishboschone · 18/02/2012 23:51

I have 3 pairs and one I have had for 4 years. . I have machine washed them a few times and they are still lovely . I would be very upset if they wore through that quickly!

PastGrace · 18/02/2012 23:56

My dog got hold of my first pair of uggs 6 weeks after I bought them. I was still at school at the time and my dad took them into an Ugg shop to ask if they could be fixed and the man there basically said there is no way of fixing them properly once they have gone.

mrsmartin · 19/02/2012 00:21

Haha sorry cardoon - I can be abit of a doof. The company directors have been thinking about selling online for years but they feel it would compromise their customer service - they want everyone to get a personal shopper experience. They were my first employer and I was with them 6 years - best employer ever!! Loved my job but had to leave as loved DH marginally more and there wasn't a branch near his new job.

Give Edin a call they day before your visit and they will put your size on hold for you. Wink
