New bowl of crisps, tuck in Ruby!

I am thrilled at this Pixi lust. Another of their things wot I like is the cheek gel in natural. It doesn't stay on very long but while it does it's well pretty.

I felt a bit rubbish yesterday and spent much too long hunched over the computer looking at not very edifying things. Today is better. Have shredded, spot cleaned the stair carpet, written a letter to DD who will be at an outdoor pursuity place with school next week and am now going out to buy some fabric conditioner at Wilkos. When the mice are away the cat does rather boring things, it would seem Blush.

MrsS look on the bright side. You have a CHILD FREE WEEK Envy

I am slightly ahem tired after pleasant evening out with a couple of MNers not on this thread last night. (Pizza Express. Rawk'n'rowl!) Am vaguely wondering whether I should try and buy DD2 some trousers that don't flap round her ankles, but since she is happy as a happy thing in tatty trackie bottoms that reach half-way up her calves I might just leave it...

I have already shared this eye-watering bit of info with MrsS but a SIL of a mate of DP's (do keep up) had twins both of whom were ten-pounders Shock

I weighed 5lb at birth. Admittedly I was, and have remained, a Notorious Shortarse.

Blackduck · 25/02/2012 11:38

I was 4 9 so ds clearly takes after me, but I expect him to be taller. Whilst in hospital having him I met a woman who was 36 weeks with twins and they were already 6 each.....
10 eac, blimey (spends time pondering where you put an extra 20 and the rest..)

Blackduck · 25/02/2012 11:39

Oh ruby, theories please :)

bigTillyMint · 25/02/2012 12:00

OMG, 2 x 10lbers Shock

I was very happy to have 6 1/2lber and then a 7 lber - that was eye-watering enough!

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2012 14:27

Well, we have had a tearful phone call from DD1 already - there has been a cock up and no beginners' snowboarding classes. She doesn't want to ski and has asked to come home. I have said, no way, Jose [cruel Mummy], spoke to the teacher and suggested that she start off back in beginners ski class to boost her confidence, and they move her to intermediate (where she should be) if she gets her confidence back and is OK with it. DD1 is flatly refusing to ski and has said she will spend the week sitting in the bedroom in the chalet.

Have told her to man up (not helpful, probably, but am cross with her). She twisted her knee last year when she went ski-ing and has blown this out of all proportion - was screaming at me that "she couldn't walk for two months because of her knee injury last year." She managed to ski on it for her last two days last year, and it didn't even warrant a trip to the doctor when she came home. I will be furious if she doesn't at least make an effort to ski, and hope that the teachers don't pander to her.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2012 14:28

[evil bitch mother]

bigTillyMint · 25/02/2012 17:56

Oh no! It does sound like she is dramaing it up a bit, but as someone who has very dodgy knees, I feel her fear! Hopefully the teacher / friends have convinced her to give it a go.... How old is she? Is she ways this truculent? Grin

Just had a bonding afternoon/evening with DS - DD at gym then a sleepover and DH at rugby and pre and post drinks.....
Went for a cake and coffee and got Forrest Gump out to watch - he loved it but thought it was a bit of a sad film because all the people he loved died. Awww.

CointreauVersial · 25/02/2012 22:42

A fairly relaxed day today. We popped out to the shops for a couple of hours, but DD1, having been at a sleepover last night, rapidly turned into the Antichrist and had to be escorted to Costa for an urgent sugar fix.

I am now babysitting, and had a text from DH at 9pm to say all DCs were in bed and he was just tucking into his third glass of wine. Envy

DS1 has a big football match tomorrow (quarter-finals of the Surrey Cup), against an Academy team they have never beaten; I am contemplating forgoing my lie-in to watch the match. I normally leave football duties to DH, unless the sun is shining and there is a guaranteed source of hot drinks, not least because the DDs hate coming along and drive me mad with constant moaning.

Blackduck · 25/02/2012 23:02

I cooked pancakes (savoury) four days late, but hey who's counting. And watched rubbish movie with dp, whilst both avoiding elephant in the room (aka house move).
MrsS I read your post and thought life was so much easier when we were kids, no mobiles, no phoning home. You got sent off and bar major accidents it was radio silence for a week.... A lot to be said for it actually :)

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/02/2012 16:32

DD1 says grumpily, on the phone, that she is ski-ing (good) "but is no good at it." She always expects to do things of an olympic standard straight off, without having to put in any practice/effort. DD2 is clearly hvin a gr8 tim judging by the txtspk messages I have had.

Had two MNetters round for curry last night - made Anjoum's green fish curry (divine, found some nice solid fish that didn't dissolve into mush for it), prawn chilli fry (DH demanded something hot) and roasted chickpeas, with Nigella's winter plum cake for pudding (made with frozen plums, not tinned).

Went for a long walk today - started off in the Jean-Paul Goude exhibition in the Beaux-Arts and then meandered along the Seine with DH, stopping for a late lunch on the left bank. Am hoping to get a couple of days off next week to go to the Doisneau and Sempe exhibitions in the Hotel de Ville. Also planning nights out and cinema trips as we are child-free this week.

Blackduck · 26/02/2012 17:03

Oh MrsS I am Envy at child free.....I have told dp I want to go to Bilbao sans ds, but think our next child free week will be when we move house so hardly relaxing.
Dd1 sounds like ds, he thinks he should just be able to do things with no practise whatsoever.
Currently have two 8 year olds rampaging through the house, I am holed up in my bedroom with iPad....

Ruby Envy I LOVE Bilbao.....

bigTillyMint · 26/02/2012 18:27

Sounds like you all had lovely weekends.

We are struggling to find a holiday destination for Easter that fits DH's criteria of value-for-money and interesting. As the flights for all the long-haul destinations the DC and I fancied are now way too expensive (massive price-hike from last year), Ventnor on the IOW is looking favourite Grin

Wish it was a child-free Bilbao!

Blackduck · 26/02/2012 18:30

I got a tax rebate and currently am thinking Bilbao or new sofa we will need when/if move happens. I know what dp would say :)

herbaceous · 26/02/2012 18:44

Having a right family day today too. Went for a walk round Chingford Forest this morning with some pals, then had a carvery lunch. I bloody love a carvery. After lunch the men took the kiddies out for running about the car park while I gossiped with the girls. Then got the train back. DS loves the train - especially the 'signs'.

Spent the afternoon trying to put up an Ikea book case without suffering an embolism, while DS and DP made a den out of the packaging.

Last night was a fundraising pamper evening at this accursed charity I chair. Raised bugger all, but I did get my eyebrows threaded for the first time. YIKES. That hurts.

I do too! It is very satisfying. There was a problem with this one I just couldn't figure out, then when I did - hearty glow. Particularly as it's from Ikea's 'Stockholm' range, and thus too expensive to balls up.

Apparently you can sell your services putting flat pack furniture together for people too idle/stupid/non-practical to do it for themselves. Maybe we could go into business ruby!

motherinferior · 26/02/2012 19:30

I am finding DD1 slightly ahem changeable at the moment. When tired/hungry/spending lots of time with her mates she can be horrid - combo of childish pertness and preteen sulks. And then once fed/rested/detached, she is lovely.

Her friends are very nice, btw, am not saying they are Bad Influence or anything. It may be that she feels she has to be this smararse different person with them.

Mind you we are all faintly stressed at the fact that secondary school announcement comes this Thurs. Am 99 per cent sure it'll be Sidnem, and am fine with that, but just want to know.

MrsS, I am merely going to mention that I purchased merguez sossidges wot you can't get in Paris for lunch (DD1 was suddenly out so we went carnivorous). Get you and your childfree arty life, huh Grin Envy Envy

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/02/2012 20:16

MI - we can get merguez here, no problem. It was when I was living in Milton Keynes that I couldn't, and had to smuggle them back from Brussels.

DH and I have had a nice er, nap, this evening.
