New bowl of crisps, tuck in Ruby!

I am thrilled at this Pixi lust. Another of their things wot I like is the cheek gel in natural. It doesn't stay on very long but while it does it's well pretty.

I felt a bit rubbish yesterday and spent much too long hunched over the computer looking at not very edifying things. Today is better. Have shredded, spot cleaned the stair carpet, written a letter to DD who will be at an outdoor pursuity place with school next week and am now going out to buy some fabric conditioner at Wilkos. When the mice are away the cat does rather boring things, it would seem Blush.

MrsS - that would be dp's tactic...
BTM - putting the kitten in the washing machine - how COULD you!

motherinferior · 22/03/2012 08:51

DD1 is still ill. This has now involved coming into our bed crying at 4am, a very upset stomach on her part - her sheets and about 101 pairs of pants are in the wash - and juggling on the part of her parents. My work is lovely and understanding BUT I also have to sing at 9.30 tonight, very complicated music, and I feel absolutely like death.

BD, go to a charity shop and purchase a hat - on Sat - and get DS to stick random things on it???

wilbur · 22/03/2012 09:42

Yes, hat from charity shop, pack of plastic daffodils and chicks from pound shop, glue or stapler and voila! Although if you want to do one like the marvellous fox / chicken one we would certainly be up for a laugh. Grin

Sorry about the illness going on in various quarters - we seem [touching wood] finally free of colds and upset tummies although ds1 is still quite chesty but it's definitely on the way out. I am going to be a bad but good mother tomorrow and give him a day off school - he can have a lie in, we'll go out for brunch and then go and see The Hunger Games. It's a reward for all his hard work in his 11+ exams and given that he never gets a day off unless his temperature is so high the thermometer stops registering, I think he deserves it.

In S&B news, I have found a fab new product for those of us with dry scaly skin - here . It's really lovely, not expensive and works a charm, I am all smooth and fragrant and not itchy [proffers large but smooth thigh for inspection].

TheReturnOfStropperella · 22/03/2012 09:46

Sorry to hear about colds and upset stomachs. There is, as they say, alot of it about at the moment.
MrsS, your co-workers sound like a right bunch of slackers.
BD, are your (ex-)buyers a bit, um, mad? Do you think they are maybe actually enjoying being complete and utter arses? Have you come across any other houses you like the look of at all? Re: Easter bonnet, I second MI's suggestion of finding a hat in the charity shop. Then get some Easter gubbins (chicks etc) from an art shop and stick them on. All done. Can also pin the decs on with safety pins.
Am busy trying to be perfect here. House is extra clean and tidy and I am up early setting the table for breakfast. Our house guest is v. nice and she and dd seem to be getting on well, but I feel under a certain amount of pressure to arrange entertainment.
Hospital rang yesterday to say that dh's results are back already and have called us in this Friday afternoon. Of course, the first thing that went through dh's mind is that the news must be bad if they're calling him in early..

TheReturnOfStropperella · 22/03/2012 09:47

x-posts with wilbur. Yes, pound shop chicks would be a better idea :)

motherinferior · 22/03/2012 09:51

Oh your poor DH, Strops. I have a small mole I am getting checked out tomorrow and am already running Tragic Scenes through my brain Hmm

Lovely lovely friend (no kids, picks up mine from time to time, actively enjoys spending time with them Hmm) has agreed to cover lunch hour slot in the Inferiority Complex so I can get to work for 2pm. DP said things like 'I don't know when I will be back': well, er, I do actually have to show up at some point. Even though I am steaming through quite a bit from home.

CointreauVersial · 22/03/2012 13:03

BD - I am an Easter bonnet veteran - the Preschool / Infant school the DCs attended did an annual parade through the village.

DS1 was also a reluctant hat-wearer - two easy ones I did for him were (1) a baseball cap with a cuddly rabbit lashed on the top (sewn on with a piece of wool), and (2) an old straw hat with some small Easter hanging decorations on ribbons stapled around the brim, like an Aussie cork hat.

Of course you will feel thoroughly inadequate when you see some of the bonnet creations, and will feel you have failed as a parent, but, hey, you'll get over it.

Blackduck · 22/03/2012 13:32

My one (!) successful easter hat 'creation' was a boater (out of ELC) with train track drawn on it (and a bridge made out of cardboard), covered with model trains from Thomas (really small ones obv.) - ds was a BIG Thmoas fan. Now you may think what did that have to do with Easter? , but I'll have you know I added chicks and it was 'The Great Chick Escape'. He wore that one - the trains clinched it.
CV - I won't be there, so I won't care!! (I am liking Aussie hat idea - also suggested to me by someone else - she said add small bags of mini eggs and he will be like the piped piper...)

Looking at house(s) at the weekend - only really interested in one....

Stropps - cross fingers for tomorrow.

wilbur · 22/03/2012 14:28

Hope it goes ok for Mr Stropps tomorrow, at least you don't have to wait over the weekend. Will be thinking of you.

bigTillyMint · 22/03/2012 16:37

Yes, hope it's good news for Mr Strops.

MI, I am covered in moles, but I haven't summoned up the courage to get them checked out. I'm sure yours will be fine. Are you going to the GP or a specialist place?

DD's lost homework turned up - the teacher of another subject had found it Hmm
Thankfully my Easter bonnet making ended when they left their otherwise lovely nursery!

All quiet here as DD at friends and DS not yet back from footy training Smile

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/03/2012 16:58

CV, am Grin at a baseball cap with a cuddly rabbit lashed on the top.

We have worked our family arses off doing Easter scenes made of eggs and anything else, you know eggs-tra factor etc with both girls every year since the dawn of time DC and thank hallalujah Jesus, this year they are going 'to have a year off'. It's like a free minibreak. I am honestly seeing the absence of attempting to shore up these frail creations with sellotape and swearing as the thing about which I'm most happy at the moment.

I was dying in bed on Tuesday evening after several hours of vomitage. Then I woke briefly at 11pm and thought about the lovely chicken and roast pots sis cooked on Mother's Day and have been absolutely fine ever since. A nice neat 24 hour lurgy.

Hmm, lovely thigh Wilbur. Have you tried the chiffon test? (know that was for a shaving product but wanted to share the nostalgia).

Stropps, crossing fingers for your perfection to last as long as the exchange, and of course much more for tomorrow...

CointreauVersial · 22/03/2012 20:19

Good luck for tomorrow, Strops, sure it will be fine.

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/03/2012 07:38

Thinking of you today, Strops, and holding thumbs and crossing fingers for you here.

I need to get my moles checked, due to the fact that melanoma has killed my grandmother, my uncle and my cousin. My mother and aunt have had it, and both get six monthly checks.

I fell down some steps last night and have sprained my ankle, grazed both knees, cut my hand, bruised both elbows and have large graze and lump on chin. The worst thing was, I hadn't even been drinking! Am going to try and work from home today as I really can't put much weight on my ankle. Will send DH to pharmacy for tubi grip bandage. That should be interesting.

Blackduck · 23/03/2012 07:59

Stropps - fingers crossed...

MrsS - you okay? That sounds like one spectacular fall!
I cannot wait for 9.00 o'clock tonight - we have a viewing at 8.00 (stupid bloody time...) when my weekend can begin - been a looooong week.

Happy Friday Crepeys....

bigTillyMint · 23/03/2012 08:07

Hope it all goes well Strops Smile

MrsS, are you SURE you hadn't been drinking? Grin

We are doing our Sports Relief mile this morning - should be lovely in the sun, but having watched John Bishop last night, we are a bit pathetic in comparison!

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/03/2012 08:31

Sadly, no drink at all! And we were supposed to be having a glass of wine after the concert last night, but there were only soft drinks. It was a spectacular fall - DH said he was surprised I still had all of my teeth. Was v worried that I had broken my ankle, but it is a little easier this morning and not as swollen.

motherinferior · 23/03/2012 08:40

Oh, MrsS.

I am at home again today. DD1 still not great. I am exhausted. Don't ask about last night's concert. Just don't. I have loads to get through, have some effing blinding school event tonight, and just want to crawl away under a stone.

Blackduck · 23/03/2012 08:46

Oh MI hope dd1 gets better soon! I take concert was less than good?

Take it easy and be nice to yourself - actually that goes for everyone!

wilbur · 23/03/2012 09:11

Oh, ouch MrsS, poor you. That does sound like quite a fall.

Sorry the concert was a 'mare, MI - although I bet it still sounded fine to the audience. I have a stack of dull as dishwater admin to do today, but if I get it done I will have a much nicer weekend so am determined. Gas bill, post office, holiday camp booking forms, here I come...

Thinking of you and your dh today, Strops.

motherinferior · 23/03/2012 09:13

Oh yes, thinking of you too, Strops.

The concert was, realistically, variable. Only one - less complicated - song started doing that unravelly thing where you all find yourselves just trying desperately to patch it up as it goes wronger and wronger and the Abyss of Shame fails to open up.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 23/03/2012 16:34

Sadly, dh got bad news. He has cancer. They don't know how far it has spread until he has had an MRI, which will, we hope be within the next 10 days. Then we'll actually know what we are dealing with and what the treatment options are. Not going to say anything to the children until that point. The implications for us financially are pretty bad because of numerous grotty things over which I don't have much control - or at least I feel I don't. Dh has been blindsided as he really thought everything was going to be OK. I have suspected since before Christmas that something wasn't right, so am not surprised, but am feeling very sad.

motherinferior · 23/03/2012 16:46

Oh Strops. Oh no.

Blackduck · 23/03/2012 16:50

Oh Stropps, I have been hanging around all day waiting to hear from you, but this is what I was hoping to hear. {{}}

So sorry.

wilbur · 23/03/2012 16:55

Oh Strops, I am so, so sorry. That is a dreadful blow. Do they know if it is indeed the spreading kind, or a more local type? I was so hoping, for all your sakes, that it was just a standard enlarged prostate kind of deal, which I suppose must have been what your dh was thinking. I never do this, but
