Hand cream for very dry hands

This time of year my hands get really dry & cracked (to the point of bleeding) unless I slap on loads of hand cream every night & before I leave the house. I have young (nappy wearing) DC so wash my hands loads of times during the day which doesn't help.

I tried a few diffetent creams a few years ago & found a neutrogena one to be good, but I wondered if you knew of something better?

I quite like putting loads of cream on at night & then wearing those little cotton gloves (although DH's joke about them being Michael Jackson's gloves is starting to wear a little thin!) so something really intensive which would mean I could wake up to gorgeous young looking hands would be fab!

There's one in crabtree & Evelyn can't remember exactly what it's called but it's something to do with gardeners..
Maybe gardeners rescue or something?

I haven't got any at the mo & have hands like an old lady..

Aveeno is what I use for my eczema.

I really like the Body Shop Rose hand butter. It smells lovely and is really thick and moisturising.

If you're hands are dry to the point of cracking I'd recommend Weleda Skin Food. I've been using it on my DD's hands (which have suddenly got really dry and chapped) and it has done the trick beautifully. It also smells nice.

Body Shop hemp. It smells a bit earthy but it's the only thing that does the trick for me.

Dd2 gets very chapped hands. Baby bottom butter is the best solution I've found. It is very greasy and I use it at night for this reason. Otherwise I've also used aveeno successfully too.

My hands are the same. I use body shop hemp every night and the kiehl's one every so often. Sorry can't remember the full name.

Waitroae baby bottom butter Is fab and so cheap. I also use the L'Occitiane Shea butter which is very expensive but seems to work. The best thing I've found tho is a tub of Epaderm which my GP suggested. You can get it from any chemist and it's great for really sensitive skin. It suggests that you can use this instead of soap to wash with as well.

I tend to get very dry hands which then shades into eczema on the palm. I do find Aveeno good, but the one thing that really solves the problem (no cracked & bleeding eczema!) is to wash my hands using aqueous (sp?) cream - you just use a dollop of it instead of soap & wash/dry as normal. It generally sorts my hands out within a few days. Its also very cheap from the chemist in huge tubs!

Another vote for Crabtree & Evelyn. Might be called Source or La Source?? In a blue & white tube, luxuriously thick and gorgeous.

I also like molton brown when less of a heavy duty cream is needed.

I ditched liquid soap and use a bar instead which had an instant effect (have eczema on hands) and use weleda skin food.

DH and I have this problem and started using Waitroses Bottom Butter on Sunday. My hands are fine now, and his are much improved.

I've started using Flexitol hand balm (bought in Boots). It comes in a really ugly tube so I thought it must be good! It completely healed up my cracked knuckles.

A really popular hand cream for dry hands is Essential Care Organic Hand & Body Lotion. It is quite thick but is made from rich natural ingredients like Shea butter and Sesame Oil making it ideal for soaking in your hands over night.

Body shop hemp hand protector - fabulous.

Aveeno is the answer, cheap and massively effective on dry skin. Loccitane Shea butter hand cream if you want something fancier but if you want serious results you cannot go past aveeno.

Hemp from body shop is brilliant.

Another vote for flexitol but I have been using the foot cream for cracked heels

another vote for the Body Shops' Hemp stuff.
It doesn't smell too good but it works brilliantly.

Crabtree & evelyn's La Source is also good. it smells wonderful but it's quite expensive as it's a two-step process! (The first step is called Skin Therapy Hand Recovery and the second step is called Hand Therapy.)

I have found something called gloves in a bottle. (got it in lloyds pharmacy). You put it on clean and dry hands. Rub it in and it acts as a barrier. (I also put hand cream on top). Not a moisturiser but stops them drying out even more.

Body shop also do a hemp oil and a new heavy duty hemp cream. I use both at night!!

I have used the La Source one from Crabtree & Evelyn but I find it ineffective and my hands are not even that dry.

I use shea butter instead these days, with better results.

I like Manuka honey handcream from Holland and Barrett. Hemp one from Bodyshop is very good but smells quite medicinal imo.

I also do the glove thing at night. I look like a snooker referee going to bed

Body Shop Hemp and Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy for me too. I prefer the smell of Hand Therapy (you can get it in lots of different scents, I use to love the Goat's Milk one but they've stopped doing it ) but Body Shop is cheaper and does the job just as well.

I also like Lush's Helping Hands in the little bottle for daytime use as it is not as thick and greasy as the other two but still very effective.

Yet another vote for Body Shop Hemp here, put it on before bed and you will wake up with lovely soft hands in the morning
