What does Morrocan Oil do for you?

I've seen it mentioned many times on S&B - but what does it do exactly? I have thick and fuzzy hair and am looking for a miracle something to tame this frizz. How do you use it? Will I ever be able to wear my hair au natural? Desperately seeking glamorous and easy maintenance hair

That's what you need.

simbo · 13/02/2012 09:24

Don't know how it will work on your hair, but it makes mine smooth and shiny. I would recommend going to a hairdresser that uses it and just going for a wash and blowdry and see whether it does anything for you. It is pricey but a little goes a long way.

OnlyANinja · 13/02/2012 09:24

Very little

grumpypants · 13/02/2012 09:25

Nothing. Overpriced rubbish.

aftereight · 13/02/2012 09:42

It wakes my thick, long hair look sleek and feel bouncy. I bought one of the small 'travel' bottles for about £12 in case the novelty wore off. It hasn't!

aftereight · 13/02/2012 09:43

*makes (no glasses + iphone screen grrr)

DoctorKnickerbocker · 13/02/2012 10:39

Great tip simbo, I will give it a test run at a hairdresser.

That's my main concern, grumpy and Ninja, that I'll fork over a fortune again for no result.

Glad to see some fans though, those that do love it, how do you actually use it? Slather it on after washing?

Ive bought shampoo and conditioner with it included...brilliant stuff

HumphreyCobbler · 13/02/2012 11:29

I use it in the morning if I wake up with big hair, and I use it after I wash too. It helps a lot, but if you have hair like mine there is no miracle cure. It is better than frizz ease because you can use it on dry hair.

Just don't use too much.

FriskyMare · 13/02/2012 11:31

The Boots organix range with morrocan oil is 2 for £8 at the moment, I've bought the shampoo & conditioner.

ruddynorah · 13/02/2012 11:31

Makes my hair fabulous.

KalSkirata · 13/02/2012 11:41

does it not make your hair greasy? I use it as a moisteriser along with coconut oil but never thought about putting it on my hair.

miaowmix · 13/02/2012 11:43

Ok, I need this stuff. Can anyone link me to the best/cheapest place to buy it please?

MrsMeow · 13/02/2012 11:58

I've only used it twice since buying it on Saturday but my hair looks & feels amazing! I colour it and straighten it and despite it being shiny and in ok condition, the ends get quite crispy and look really dry. The oil has made a massive difference already. You only need to use a TINY bit though.

I rubbed the left over oil on my hands into my knuckles & cuticles and now even they're less dry. Not sure that's the idea though!

GreyGardens, as Frisky mentioned, it's 2 for £8 in Boots at the min (the Organix range) should be £6.99 per bottle so a pretty good deal.

OnlyANinja · 13/02/2012 12:08

You all may be talking about different products.

Are you talking about pure Argan oil, or branded Moroccanoil (which is mainly silicones with only a little oil), or some other product that claims to contain "Moroccan oil"?

miaowmix · 13/02/2012 12:09

Thanks Mrs Meow. I missed that!
Ninja, yes that's what is confusing me - whether to get the pure oil or a shampoo/product containing it.

suburbandream · 13/02/2012 12:14

If you are thinking it will tame your hair - it won't, but it does make it really soft and shiny and therefore less frizzy. You only need a tiny bit and if you use it regularly it really improves the condition of your hair so then you need less IYWIM. Plus like MrsMeow says, it's really nice for your hands and nails too if you rub the remaining oil in to them once you've done your hair Smile

miaowmix · 13/02/2012 12:18

Thanks suburban. Exactly what I'm looking for. So would you recommend pure oil?

valiumredhead · 13/02/2012 12:45

It tames my hair and makes it very soft and gets rid of the frizzes. I use Argan oil from amazon which is a tenner or L'Oreal Mythic oil which is £9 on Cheapsmells website - which I find slightly less heavy for my hair. It does NOT make it greasy weirdly enough.

Pharoahnuff · 13/02/2012 16:40

IM talking Argan

VivaLaSativa · 13/02/2012 16:42

Nowt, I think its overhyped. I use CHI or argan oil, CHI is my favourite. As my hair is fine it doesn't get weighed down by these ones.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 16:43

What is it for?

valiumredhead · 13/02/2012 16:56

It conditions and tames hair.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 16:57

I don't think I have the hair for it!

faustina · 13/02/2012 17:08

I've been using morrocanoil for almost a year now. used to use frizzease. if I dry it naturally, my hair is an unattractive mixture of frizz and corkscrew curls - with blonde highlights. Just after washing/conditioning (every other day) I put two pumps of it on my hands, and then work it through, starting at the ends. then I blow dry and straighten it. on days when I don't wash it, I use one pump, and straighten. It looks a million times better than it ever did. It's expensive, but lasts forever - literally. Just bought third bottle (since last march) and haven't opened it yet. hth
