Bare Minerals foundation for very pale skin?

salamanda · 12/02/2012 20:15

I'd really like to try mineral foundation but I am vv pale, almost no foundations are light enough for me. If their palest shade isn't pale enough, are there any similar products that would work for me?

The bare minerals 'fair' is their palest one and it is nicole kidman in 'the hours' pale. Hope that helps :)

MyCatHasStaff · 12/02/2012 20:23

I am very very pale, and I use 'fairly light' which is a bit lighter than 'fair', then mix fair and fairly light in the summer when I have (or would like) the merest hint of colour.

mrsmartin · 12/02/2012 20:24

It isn't. Fair is the lightest, then fairly light, then light...

gregssausageroll · 12/02/2012 20:45

Yes, fairly light is the lightest shade followed by light.

mrsmartin · 12/02/2012 20:50

No, it isn't...see:

BM colour chart

fairly light used to be the palest shade you could get but they brought fair out about 6 months ago

salamanda · 12/02/2012 22:17

Ah, thanks, if they bought out a lighter shade recently I will give it a try. I had a quick look at bare minerals a few years ago and the lightest shade was too much colour for me. But all the talk on here is tempting me back! I am more morticia than nicole though...

Also try Lily Lolo - I prefer BM myself, but LL are very good. Cheaper, and more matt, and their pale shades are REALLY pale. I use BM Fairly Light - LL China Doll, Porcelain and Blondie are all too pale for me.

Oh, and they also do generous sample sizes for £1.95 or something.

cyb · 12/02/2012 22:22

fairly light is REALLY lighht

Too light for me

I dunno why I use it

mrsmartin · 12/02/2012 22:26

sal the BE shades are really adaptable but I'm guessing fairly light didn't work for you because it is yellow based, whereas the fair is pink. I find I can adapt my make up for the look I'm going for with BE - over the course of a year I change between 6 different shades!! At the mo I'm channeling sexy red lippy and black eyeliner madmen stylee for work, so wear the fair. On days off I'm doing fresh faced cherub so use light - they blend so well that you can really change your skintonw with the swirl of a brush. My advice is to go to a BE counter and try the shades and then buy a kit from qvc or feel unique :)

Devora · 12/02/2012 23:18

It's true that Fairly Light is very yellow-based. Now I think of it, that's probably why the Lily Lolo shades are too pale for me - they're pinker so make me look ashy.

Haha, ok I'll give LL a try, never heard of them. And yes, it's pink based I need, so will check out the less yellow BM shades. Am totally sick of make up counter women matching me up with shades that are too dark for me 'to give me a bit of colour'. Foundation should be the same colour as your skin ffs. And as for the clinique woman who offered me a shade because it's 'popular'...

Oh Clinique is utter shite imo!

LL do really good samples and their customer service is very good on FB for getting the right colour. Their samples last a good 3 wks too ime.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 14:25

Thanks valium I will get me some samples! Needless to say, I didn't buy the Clinique...

I have some lily lolo samples on the way... China Doll and Candy Cane. Not sure how dark Candy Cane is, but it looks nice and pink so could work. I LOVE mumsnet :)

Fairly Light is definitely the lightest shade - it's the one I use. I'm very white but with dark hair - there are people paler than me.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 15:35

Can you buy any of there on the high st? I tried mineral foundation a few years ago think it was max factor and it was crap! But had a lily lolo sample from a freind which was quite good coverage but wrong colour Would like to see them first TIA

salamanda · 13/02/2012 16:05

You can't get Lily Lolo from anywhere near me noddy, so I ordered the samples off their website. It's only £1.29 for a generous sample. You can get Bare Minerals from loads of shops and salons, my nearest is Harvey Nicks. I'm sure their website will have a list of stockists.

Bare Minerals - I get mine from Debenhams initially then I buy from Feel Unique website as it is much cheaper. Lily Lolo I think is on line only.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 17:03

Do you buy the brush separate? I don't think the brush I had was good enough

ggirl · 13/02/2012 17:09

I have never been able to determine whether I have yellow or pink based skin.

I suite med-beige.. but none the wiser tbh

valiumredhead · 13/02/2012 17:12

I have pink skin so I need the yellow to counteract the redness. I am med beige too gg

ggirl · 13/02/2012 17:13

so i am pinnk undertoned then??

ggirl · 13/02/2012 17:14

and today as I had no where to go I used some BE light , just for a change and it doesn't really suit me.. i look made up iykwim

valiumredhead · 13/02/2012 17:16

Possibly, I just know I need the yellow based products to balance out the redness.
