Another foundation thread- this time BOBBI BROWN

I did a huge foundation hunt 6 months back after my Clinique shade was discontinued (I can still buy it 2 shades darker than what I used before and it's JUST ok).

I ended up with Clarins Extra Firming- doesn't firm but quite nice texture and great colour for me in Ivory- am pale.
BUT it is light to medium coverage and 1 application is no more than a tinted moisturiser IMO so it needs building.

I do have good skin- no lines and not dry or oily. But my skin tone is slightly uneven and I have terrible blue under eye circles.

BB offers pale shades which I need. I have had testers for BB moisturising foundation but it seemed very "thin" even though it says you can build the coverage.

Has anyone used this BB or got any ideas which other one to try- I posted about their stick foundation but wonder if it's really thick? I have also tried the luminous one which slid off my face.

I've used a lot of BB foundation. Their tinted moisturiser is good, but I wouldn't say you can build coverage with it. It's definitely a light, dewy finish. Their skin foundation is good and buildable, but I'm finding at the moment, with my skin suffering with the weather, that it's drying me out between the eyebrows!

I really like their luminous, moisturising foundation, good, buildable coverage, and a lovely finish. Their mineral foundation is AMAZING. I am a total convert. No faffing with primers or shaders as with bare minerals. Just really good, natural looking skin.

In summary:

Tinted moisturiser - Great for everyday, casual wear
Skin foundation - lovely, natural coverage, but can exacerbate dry skin
Mineral - fantastic for both day and evening wear, easy to use
Luminous - lovely, would say maybe more of an evening/occasion foundation though, as it gives a lovely, funnily enough, luminous, finish.

I've already posted on your stick foundation thread, but was just wondering if you'd tried the BB Corrector for your dark circles (rather than, or as well as, concealer)? Tis magic stuff.

Forrestgump · 07/02/2012 11:43

I am a Bobbi Brown girl, well i went for a make up sitting before christmas, as my YSL foundation had come to and end and i fancied a change. so I am a new convert. I am using BB corrector and the creamy concealer under my eyes and then the luminous foundation.

In the day i use the tinted moisturiser, its just enough covering for me. I dont wear excessive makeup, and foundation is mainly only for nights out.

(I still use my ysl touche eclat with my tinted moisturiser)

Forrestgump · 07/02/2012 11:44

Veronica x posted - agree the BB corrector is MAGIC!!!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/02/2012 11:46

I don't know anything about BB foundation, but I also have terrible lilac under eye circles, and I have found that the only thing which covers them completely is By Terry Touche Velouté. And before that I tried everything. I really recommend it, it's about £30 from Space NK.

Re foundation, have you had a look at Lancome Teinte Miracle, plus also Photgenic Luminescence? I think they are very good.

Best foundations by far imo are from laura Mercier and By Terry, but they are rather expensive.

ameliagrey · 07/02/2012 12:04

Thanks all.

I already use BB concealer and TBH it is enough on its own especially now they have reformulated and it's slightly heavier.

I think one issue is that I have got used to using a very highly pigmented foundation- Clinique Repair Wear- which is lovely, and not thick.

In comparison lots of foundations seem very thin with poor coverage.

I have had testers of all the Lancome foundations and almost bought one, but again, the colour matching is not great- I am 010 in lancome and I think that gives me 1 foundation to choose from! Ditto Estee lauder- the shades are too pink or too yellow.

I might look at By Terry. Other contenders seem to be BB stick, luminous or moisture foundation. The oil free one may be worth a look too as my skin is not oliy or dry.

Have tried Laura Mercier but their colours are not good on me- the palest shade is too pale and the next shade up is pinky.

I use the BB stick and love it to bits (literally after DS grabbed it Hmm).

It's layer-able, but light, blendable and works really well with the concealer, although I tend to use it more for going out dressed up than everyday use.

I also have the Oil Free, Even Finish Foundation which is also good - I tend to stick a tiny bit on my palm with my normal moisturiser and hey presto, slightly tinted moisturiser which again I can layer if my skin is having a bleurgh day.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/02/2012 12:24

It is very difficult getting a colour match isn't it.

I can't wear Chanel, Dior and chantecaille for instance as my skin is too pinky - and those are yellowy undetones.

One of the By Terry ones is a colour match one - it comes in one shade only and will match any skin. It costs a fortune but is worth it - the coverage is rather dense, but not not thick iyswim.

polyhymnia · 07/02/2012 13:00

Another By Terry fan here. Also like Laura
Mercer, Becca, and Bobbi B . At moment am loving BB tinted moisturising balm - excellent in this weather, not greasy, very natural.

WaitingForMe · 07/02/2012 13:32

I use BB tinted moisturiser overlaid with the mineral foundation. It's magical, I actually look airbrushed!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/02/2012 13:36

Idon't work for By Terry, btw.

MrsDollyLevi · 08/02/2012 10:29

getorfmoiland I've just bought the Lancôme Teint Miracle. It's fabulous! It's very very light in texture yet lasts all day and you hardly feel like you have anything on your skn.

This apparently was 10 years in the making. I can understand why.

Bluesue26 · 08/02/2012 13:45

I've only quickly looked over your thread but if it's good coverage you want then Estee Lauder double wear foundation is really good. It was recommended to me by a friend and I don't think I would ever use any other foundation now and I've tried LOADS. I wouldn't use it every day though because it can be quite difficult to get off.

azazello · 08/02/2012 14:43

I've been looking at the BB moisturising foundation for dry skin - anyone know if it is any good?

My skin is painfully dry especially at the moment but not sensitive - I don't tend to have reactions to make up or ezcema etc. I'm also very very pale so am having real difficulty finding anything.

Bienchen · 08/02/2012 18:02

Another vote for Lancome Teint Miracle here as I think you may be able to sort out the under eye area with concealer. Lancome have a seven day trial on at the moment, so you have got a good chance to test before buying. I hate just "being made over" in the store and buying based on the application at the store, really like the idea of having a generous sample for weekends away for proper testing in my own time.

ameliagrey · 08/02/2012 18:38

Lancome Teint Miracle got very bad review on www.beautypedia.com which said it had an alcohol base which was highly irritating to the skin.

I have tried a sample and on application it did feel very cold and make my eyes water.

Ooh, that's I shame. I must be lucky. Makes my skin look fab. Have been using for a couple of months now. Love it. No reaction whatsoever.

Bienchen · 08/02/2012 19:07

Sorry you had a bad experience. Unfortunately, that's the story with cosmetics, one woman's poison is another woman's staple. And for every bad review there is one that raves about the product.

I got on very well with Teint Miracle and it suits me well even in the current frosty and windy weather.

Hope you find something that suits your needs.

Parasaurolophus · 08/02/2012 19:14

BB has been brilliant for me. I use the moisturizing foundation and the powder and I look much better, without looking overly made-up. It has been a marvellous for me.

I let myself be sold the concealer as well, but I can't usually be bothered to use it.

MrsDollyLevi · 08/02/2012 19:44

Bienchen.... I agree. I used an Estée Lauder foundation for some time and then caught sight of myself in daylight Shock !! I looked dreadful. I have good skin but the EL showed every fine line and looked cakey and unnatural. Also, because it oxidised, it made my blush go orange too! By mid day I was a very odd colour indeed.

I think all the major brands have ingredients that you'd probably prefer NOT to have on your skin but at least with the Lancôme Teint Miracle, it makes you look just lovely. My Bobbi Brown blush looks like it does in the pan, on my cheeks.... Instead of a peculiar tango'd effect.

chipstick10 · 09/02/2012 08:22

I love my BB foundation. I use Natural finish long lasting foundation. It is matt which i like but not cakey. It stays true to colour and stays put and i look air brushed when i wear it. All my make up apart from mascara is bb.

Cristiane · 09/02/2012 09:14

amelia I don't rate beauty pedia at all, they are just after flogging their own prodcuts

missorinoco · 09/02/2012 09:17

I love BB tinted moisturiser, agree with the earlier post it is probably best for every day wear.

I currently use Touche Eclat, would you recommend BB concealer over it?

ameliagrey · 09/02/2012 10:54

*Cristiane"- is that so about beautypedia? i thought they were an independent source of info? I know they make cosmetics but I never bother to read that- I just read their reviews.
