The definitive warm, waterproof coat for a 3yo girl?

tethersend · 02/02/2012 13:56

I need help.

I want something which is actually waterproof, with a hood and is warm enough to be a winter coat.

In age 3-4.

Can be flexible on design, have resigned myself to the fact that it will probably have to be a pink monstrosity and will cost an arm and a leg; but the cheaper and less pink the better Wink

My DH bought this for DD(1) just before xmas and it's great. Looks nicer and better quality in RL than it does in the picture.

I bought this last year in size 4-5 for my tall 3yo.

It still fits her this year and has been worn everyday for nursery. Been washed often and is still in great condition, drys super quick as well. Very warm and dd1 has always stayed dry when wearing it.

libertychick · 02/02/2012 14:02

Sorry I didn't do that link right here

libertychick · 02/02/2012 14:05

Ok not helpful - just noticed it's not available in the right size!!

BuildersTea · 02/02/2012 14:16

H&M coats would fit the bill.

I've just bought one of these for each of my children because my daughter has had the winter version as her school coat this year and it's been brilliant, properly warm and waterproof.

libertychick · 02/02/2012 14:42

la redoute

possibly not waterproof

la redoute again

pumpkin patch

This is hard!! all the nice coats seem to be sold out and waterproof very difficult to find...

goingtoofast · 02/02/2012 14:53

not cheap but good quality

goingtoofast · 02/02/2012 14:56

www.hm.com/gb/product/92287?article=92287-C#article=92287-D My son has one of these and it's fab, really warm, online it's sold out by maybe you would have luck instore. The hood actually stays up with this coat!

tethersend · 02/02/2012 18:52

Thanks all. I really want something which is properly waterproof, rather than just water resistant... The JL one is good, am just weeping softly at the price. I think the H&M ones may be a bit too short.

Any more ideas greatly received.

Apologies for the pink!

littleducks · 02/02/2012 19:03

I would avoid la redoute, dn's coat from there was really thin. Maybe check out millets stores, they had big reductions at a store near me, not sure if thats branch was closing down though.

littleducks · 02/02/2012 19:05

gap warmest coat? that seems to be thought highly of on here

bytheMoonlight · 02/02/2012 19:23

That link is to the mens section littleducks

tyaca · 02/02/2012 20:23

gap down filled.

but get it second hand from ebay.

tyaca · 02/02/2012 20:24

OR - go to millets/blacks? both have huge sales of hardy outdoor type clothes at moment.

GrimmaTheNome · 02/02/2012 20:28

Try mountain warehouse or trespass - ski jackets are warm and waterproof, and they have other walking coats too.

The other way to get warm and waterproof is fleece with a thin waterproof over, which is more versatile.

tethersend · 03/02/2012 12:43

Thanks all.

I've bought these Jojo coats for my DDs for the first time this year and have been very impressed. They do need an extra layer on bitterly cold days (i.e. today!) but have been warm enough for most of winter. They are totally waterproof too, and quite long. My DTs (4.5yo) are wearing the 4-5 and they still have a lot of growing room. DD3 has the all in one which I've been equally impressed with.

dairymoo · 03/02/2012 13:31

Have always thought these Polarn o Pyret ones look good too...

monkeysmama · 03/02/2012 13:41

The POP ones are great. Dd has one. She has a Gap puffa too which is warm but or the coldest days she wears a Mayoral red one from last year. It has a very thick fleece lining and is the warmest kids coat I've seen.

ggirl · 03/02/2012 18:24

I really rate lands end for coats
excellent quality and customer service
[[http://www.landsend.co.uk/ix/girls-clothing/girls/outerwear/index.html?seq=1~2~3&catNumbers=1167~1174&visible=1~2~1&store=le&sort=Recommended&tab=20 ds has the squall , the down jackets are brilliant as well

ggirl · 03/02/2012 18:25

sorry

gastrognome · 03/02/2012 20:34

Another vote for the Jojo coat mentioned by dairymoo above. DD is wearing hers for the second winter running and it really is good quality, warm, generous sized and waterproof. She loves it. And the coats come in various colours.

I agree that on the coldest days you need an extra layer but it's still a great winter coat, that'll do for spring/autumn too.
