I don't want to wear running tights. I have a pair but they always feel like they will come down. What do sport MNers wear when they run? At the moment I always run in the dark as I look so bad.

I only started running this year to start with i wore old track suit bottoms and. Huge Tshirt but have moved on to running rights now I know I will use them.
To start with I brought a pair of Adidas running trainers from sports direct for about £25 and they are great wearing really well and comfortable. I did chnge the laces for elastic ones though as supposed to be better for your foot.

Now I have two pairs of running tights karrimor ones from sports direct and a pair of Adidas ones I prefer the karrimor ones. They seem to stay up better. Neither fall down but sometimes the Adidas one feel like they need a good yank up.

The only thing i would say you should definatley invest in before starting running is a sports bra. I have an elomi one which is great . I do have 34/6 h boobs though.

ILoveOnionRings · 21/01/2012 18:53

Cutteduppear - you can wear anything on your body but from experience the first investments must be proper running shoes (whatever your budget) and a decent sports bra. My larger busted running pal wears a normal bra and then her sports bra over the top for double support. I would just wear your trousers and see how you get on, if too flappy roll them up to your knees, I have done this before too. Be warned running is very addictive :o

cutteduppear · 21/01/2012 18:53

Oh gawd yes. Bra. Never thought of that. I am a 34 AA (smallest ever after teen) but all my bras are underwired, I'm thinking that's bad?

cutteduppear · 21/01/2012 18:55

Ooh I am now v excited and looking forward to new addictive hobby.
Can I ask another Q c0rnsilk or am I hijacking your thread too much?

Acanthus · 21/01/2012 18:57

Go to sports direct and get some Asics gel trainers for £30. Get a decent sports bra. Then set off, anything else will wait.

exercisejunkie · 21/01/2012 18:57

i've got the same ones as cordoon, they really comfy...something I NEVER thought i'd say about running tights. I run in a sports bra, racing back top tucked into my tight..beautiful..then a running top over the top, I get really got so can'r run in long sleeves ever, even last week in - temps I was still in short sleeves.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 21/01/2012 18:57

cutted ask away am pretty sure we will all give you honest answers

sorry op am quitting smoking so am hijacking due to being needy and bossy

Miomio · 21/01/2012 18:58

I run in capri Nike drill fit running pants (fab and good value) or long Ronhill running pants. Both stay up even with a smart phone in the back pocket. I like tight fitting bottoms - no swishing around. You could start of in tight cotton legging I guess.

You need a wicking layer on top - not cotton. Atm i'm running in a NB longsleeved running top and a fleece on top. I do find that running tops come up small - I'm a 12/14 and always have to get a L or XL!

I also have a cotton buff that I wear round my neck (TKMaxx good for these) that I pull up at the start to be a hat and then when I get hot just goes round my neck iyswim.

cutted up - ask away! I'm practically a beginner myself Grin

quiet - what running socks do you use?

OP posts:
cece · 21/01/2012 19:07

I started the couch25k last week.

I am currently wearing a pair of old trackie bottoms and DHs tshirts with a hoody.

However, I only go out in the dark because I look a mess I am sure. I plan to treat myself to something a bit more flash if I finish the 9 week program and deicde to continue with the running.

mummynoseynora · 21/01/2012 19:07

I run in normal loose trackie bottoms (atm.... once my legs are roughly half the size I may invest in those tights, doubt they do them in size elephant)...

I also wear
proper running socks, those things are a godsend - I cannot run without them without getting a blister, with them I don't even get any slight rubbing

shock absorber sports bra... a must - particularly if large of norkage (see note above, size - elephant)

and a craft long sleeved running top in this weather, its fluroescent pink so covered for high vis, and has these little thumb holes which stop the sleeves moving... oh and a pocked for my phone!

also got proper running trainers, by saucony - as said above, a proper running gait analasys is a must, last time I took it up (nearly 10 years ago) I ran in my old 'cool' trainers and fecked my back up for 5 years, so this time I did it properly!

mummynoseynora · 21/01/2012 19:09

(running socks are 1000 mile ones)

QuietOhSoQuiet · 21/01/2012 19:09

cOrn I have nike drifit,dd has karimoor and dh has ronhill, mine are the thinnest ones, they stop that horrible cotton sweaty having to peel them off and my blisters were greatly reduced from the start

c0rnsilllk · 21/01/2012 19:10

must get proper trainers then Shock

mummynoseynora · 21/01/2012 19:10

QuietOhSoQuiet · 21/01/2012 19:11

c0rnsilllk · 21/01/2012 19:15

If you like high waisted cycling tights are good as they tend to be higher in the waist.

I alternate running tights and cycling tights. My Capri tights I wear spring time are Nike and have an internal tie which means they fit snuggly. The thermal ones I use in winter are also Nike but they ride down a bit as they don't have the tie. The cycling tights chafe a bit on vy long runs though so I keep them for shorter ones.

Running tights are much mere comfortable, I would recommend trying to find a pair you get on with.

Running socks are great, I use Hilly twin skin socks.

Dri-fit tops as well, some men's, some womens. Men's, I like because theybRe a bit longer in the body..

c0rnsilllk · 21/01/2012 19:17

I don't go far enough to chafe anything at the moment Grin

The question was this - normally after physical exercise I get mega hungry.
If I go running and then eat loads of carbs sticky buns will it completely negate the good effects of my run?

QuietOhSoQuiet · 21/01/2012 19:28

cutter you may be confusing hunger with thirst and yes if you eat loads of carbs it will negate all the work you do.

If you are starting out then there is no need to eat any more carbs at all, beware though about eating before running,I can't if I do then I will be standing at the side of the road throwing up,I have to run on a virtually empty stomach, maybe a banana an hour before. After I drink enough to feel hydrated and then about an hour after I will eat a meal but probably some scrambled eggs or something as too many carbs make me feel sick.
Carbs are as I have found out,in their refined state, very addictive Blush

Piffpaffpoff · 21/01/2012 19:58

The Ronhills do have a high waist c0rnsilk plus they are a generous cut so I like buying them because I get to go 'ah yes, size 16 please'. I don't get to do that very often! But I'm working on that....

And a big yes to a good sports bra if required. I didn't realise how much, er, movement there was in that dept til I ran on a treadmill and saw myself in the mirror. Yikes!

cutteduppear · 21/01/2012 20:03

Good advice, where's that banana?
