Why do all exercise tops need to...

A- be cropped,
B- be SO fitted,
C- be designed for those who have been exercising constantly since leaving PE behind at school? (ie not me Blush)
I've been searching for exercise tops that will reach (at least) my crotch and not cling bearing in mind that I have not achieved a body that I'm comfortable with jiggling about in olympic- looking training gear.
I've checked Sweaty Betty, M&S and all the usual suspects but can anyone suggest a looser and longer length top that I might feel less self- conscious in?
Please help!

I buy men's ones, problem solved. But then, I'm not fussed about looking good when working out, I suppose it depends if you are

Gigondas · 19/01/2012 18:46

I know it isn't as sleek as sweaty Betty but rohan breathable tee shirts are an alternative to men's wear .

M and s do some plain tee shirts in dry fit - they are pretty ordinary fitting .

Cotton Traders?

QuietOhSoQuiet · 19/01/2012 19:01

mens technical tops,I borrow my dh at the mo as am a few llbs over what I would like so nick his instead

check out sports direct if you don't like the mens options then the karimor range of womens tops are fab,own several myself, very cheap so just upsize to give extra room.I personally wold never go back to cotton tees to workout in.

liftthatup · 19/01/2012 19:02

All good suggestions Smile. It's not that I'm worried about looking good as such, more looking OK and not having every bulge on show- somewhere in between I suppose

No suggestions - but completely know where you are coming from, it pisses me off too!
They are always so clingy that it just clings to every ounce of fat.. and looks horrendous when jumping up and down/running.

They are always in 'obvious sweat' colours too... why would you want that when you're exercising?!

Gigondas · 19/01/2012 19:11

Rohan good as cheap in sale and I have worn them up to 40 weeks pregnant so they do hide stuff. I guess the karrimor
Stuff similar - rohan got sale in so I pick it up there

I have a long sleeved Ronhill running top that's fairly loose fitting and quite flattering. It's this one. Apparently Ronhill are quite close to normal sizing so whatever size you normally buy should be OK whereas I've found some other brands are way off sizing wise.

theladylovescupcakes · 19/01/2012 19:36

[[http://www.next.co.uk/x49228s2 i bought this recently]]

Much more drapey and longer than the pic. Covers the camel toe I get from wearing quite tight leggings.

theladylovescupcakes · 19/01/2012 19:39

When exercising, of course. Ahem, as you were.

waxlyrical · 19/01/2012 20:37

I have one of these which is a good length for leggings and not too clingy.

brighthair · 19/01/2012 20:57

Nike are usually quite long?
I just wear a normal vest top

40notTrendy · 19/01/2012 21:01

Feel your frustration. I'd quite like to look the part but as I'm curvy Grin and short waisted everything clings in the wrong place or rides up. Ron Hills bit low rise. Nike tops tend to be a bit longer. M and S I find a rubbish fit. Will keep watching!

liftthatup · 19/01/2012 21:10

That's it! Want to sort of look the part but I'm not there yet. Need a V neck cos of big shoulders but feel a bit silly in Nike cos I associate it with "real gym people." Gah.

I got a nice black one in, er, Blacks (the outdoor shop) that was half price in the sale. It's nice and long, just a t shirt shape but made of the posh exercise material.

I also sized up two sizes to a 16 and it skims rather than clings and is very comfy.

OneHandFlapping · 21/01/2012 18:15

Amazon often have cheap stuff - probably the end of lines. Both my recent purchases of exercise tops have come from there.

Gingefringe · 21/01/2012 18:40

Try looking in the cycling section of sports shops - the tops are generally longer in length to accommodate leaning over the bike frame.

Best ones I've ever had were from Tescos sports section - I normally buy the plain black with short sleeves as they don't accentuate my lumps and bumps quite so much.

I also hate the sleeveless ones as some of them have quite large armholes that expose those wobbly bits around the back of your bra!

Itsallgonetitsup · 21/01/2012 23:43

I used to wear old baggy T shirts until I lokst enough weight to treat myself to a few nice fitted tops.

Sadly since crimbo I have had to go back to the T Shirts. But its another goal I have set myself.

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/01/2012 23:45

i run and i buy running tops that are size bigger - so less clingy! i hate cotton - too heavy and too sweaty!

try sports direct for bargains.
