Envy

I know it doesn't work on colouring alone but what colouring are you?

What are your best colours?

I really want mine doing.

HazleNutt · 19/01/2012 18:02

www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/

TracyK · 19/01/2012 18:09

Thanks Hazle, I got a brochure from the consultant for kettlewellcolours and have ordered a couple of things.
I was sure I'd be a soft summer, but no, am an autumn. So chocolate, bronze, kahki, and specific reds will be my initial favourites. some of the brighter colours will be a struggle to get used to!
Well worth the money Norma!

I had mine done about 20 years ago - seemed like a huge amount of money at the time (£50) but well worth it. I am Autumn too.

I also had loads of grey - including a really lovely, new jacket I didn't want to part with so added an autumnal scarf and it made a difference. Now I find shopping sooo much quicker as you can just scan round for the right colours.
I know a lot of people on here don't like Per Una, but find often have a lot of autumn colours. I often find it hard finding summer clothes in autumn colours - so stock up when you see it.

ENormaSnob - it might vary according to the consultancy, I had mine done by House of Colour. There was a shade of most colours in each season (e.g. greens for Autumn include khaki & bottle green, but softer and lighter for Spring). they then went through the Autumn colours and did a second matching based on which colour suited you best for 100% (e.g. coat/dress); 50% e.g. blouse/skirt; or 25% (eg scarf/belt) as not all the colours even within your season suit you as well.
I went with a friend and it was well worth doing that as it was easier to see what a difference the colours made on her when she was being "done" rather than on myself, plus it was more fun.

Gosh, didn't mean to write so much!

TracyK · 19/01/2012 18:16

I think I'll take it easy and go with one or two similar colours to start with - she did say to have 3 colors on the go - but hmm not sure bout that.
I'd just love to have a generous scarf in all my colours ie the drapes x 3 in size. Gap in the market for a silk/satin wholesaler I say!

Lovely scarf!
I'm still scouring the Xmas sales. I was getting greys, but will cancel them and still seeing quite a big range of chocolates and got this bargain www.johnlewis.com/Shopping/Product.aspx?Type=SKU&Id=231461410 and am hoping it is the right colour when it comes through.
have you seen any autumn colour leather biker type jackets?

I am also a deep autumn leaf that is slowly trying to get rid of a grey dominated wardrobe. I occasionally wear a favourite charcoal jumper but always with a scarf in a suitable autumn colour. Lovely scarf NewYearEverything...
I have now got to the stage that I feel very out of sorts if I am in a non autumn colour!
I am starting to build a wardrobe full of dark teals, browns, golds etc and have even started wearing orange which I love. But I'm still struggling to find the right sort of red...if you find anything (preferably a top or scarf) in a good brick or red colour please let me know as I could do with a lift!

Collision · 19/01/2012 19:18

Link again Tracy....didnt work!

TracyK · 19/01/2012 19:20

The kettle well catalogue had a nice red, cowl neck top. But out of stock on the web. Will keep an eye in case it comes back on.
Is there a web site for each seasons best current items in the shops?

Aarg, I think I got the last one. I got the link from my current order. It was a bronzey, minky wrap top. 90 down to 19 quid.

I would love a website that told me where to find clothes in suitable autumn colours. My bank account however would not! Am off to look at kettlewell....

ForwardOcho · 19/01/2012 20:25

just marking my place, as I am going on Monday. Have ignored this for years as I LIKE wearing black, so am now apprehensive and excited.

TracyK · 19/01/2012 20:41

Only a winter can wear black!

Have a look on planet.co.uk they have a beautiful red silk blouson top. Plus quite a few chocolate things for dirt cheap sale.

Gillybobs · 19/01/2012 21:23

Oooo Tracy, Autumn eh?

Im a paintbox spring like your mum.

WHen they tell you 3 colours its a bit scary , Ive found adding a 3rd colour with a scarf or necklace the easiest way to do it. So I will wear 2 of my neutrals (maybe navy and cream) and add a bright printed scarf. Really easy.

When I was "done" in September the shops were full of Autumn coloured stuff, I think NYE is absolutely right, you will find loads of stuff at the right time of year, but there will still be plenty now if you look. Especially all your neutrals.

Get to TK MAXX for a scarf and buy a lippy in the right colour. Makes all the difference and breaks you in gently

TracyK · 19/01/2012 21:43

I got some eye shadow, blusher and lippy from Denise. Not sure bout the lippy as I am used to gloss. Think the lippy is a bit ageing so will need to get a clear gloss or Vaseline.
my poor mum has been right through her wardrobe and has NOTHING in the right colours!

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 19/01/2012 21:46

What did you think of Denise (and her pad!)

I found the HoC lippy a bit full on

Bobbi Brown lippys are great for Autumns. I know this as I was saying how much I liked them to Denise and she told me they are mostly Autumn colours. Their glosses too I guess.

What about getting a bag in a compliant colour too?

Your poor mum. I was quite lucky, I had loads of cream and navy, few bits of brown. And I already knew coral and turquoise were good so had a few tops in those colours too.

TracyK · 20/01/2012 07:57

Denise was great - not as OTT as her profile piccie suggested!
Its a pity I couldn't get a spring swatch book too - then I could keep an eye out for my mums colours for her - as I'm shopping all the time and she doesn't really.
What have been your recent purchases?
I need to go through all my stuff - I think I have a few silvery grey things - they'd suit my mum wouldn't they?

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 20/01/2012 08:41

Yes, light grey is good, as are warm creams, brightish navy and chocolate brown. She is bound to have some of those in her wardrobe, no?

Look at her wallet and see what her 2 star colour are and try and get maybe 2 tops and a scarf with those colours.

Ive bought about 5 scarves (ebay do a pashmina for £3, search for pashmina 22 colours) and a load of tops. A few in my bright red, one in bright green and one bright blue (notice a bright theme? ; ) ) Ive only bought one pair of trousers which are brown cords. I had plenty of smarter trousers in grey and brown/tan.

I wear a lot of my neutrals accessorised with bright/compliant bits and pieces. Nothing to stop you and your mum doing that for now then building it up gradually.

What are you planning to buy?

gladyoucame · 20/01/2012 09:02

I had mine done between Christmas and New Year and I'm a Blue Spring. Have been struggling slightly with the bright colours as always wore more autumn type colours.

Gillybobs- that advice sounds really good re neutrals and bright accessories. Think DH slightly shocked when I put my HoC lipstick on! Going for style day next month before I spend too much! I need some basic tops etc and some scarves to start with but slightly nervous about the brights and me standing out too much in sea of dark colours. My best neutrals were the grey and bright navy (which I'd always kept away from) so may start there.

ENormaSnob · 20/01/2012 09:04

Can I ask how much this colouring thing is?

Any recommendations for one in the north west?

I have no idea what colours suit me. I look ok in black and aubergine and shit in pastels.
