Can we still wear boot cut jeans?

Just wondering really. Cannot wear skinny jeans, my upper thighs won't allow it! Is there a risk of mumsiness with boot cut though, opinions please?

I can't get over the previous unfashionability of straight cut jeans so would never buy them. Also I tend to wear jeans over long boots so boot cut makes sense to me. I don't care if it's mumsy - I wouldn't be seen dead in skinny jeans and neither should most of the women who wear them.

I have short legs and biggish thighs and I think boot cut is very unflattering on me.

Agree with Gaelic
Great tips from Scarlett !

I wear bootcut and am not "mumsy" (am 25 and don't look older) I agree that it just depends on what you wear with them e.g. IMO Converse definitely looks nicer than the famous black ankle boots with square heel.

You will always look better if you wear what suits you and flatters you rather than following fashion - and if that happens to be bootcut jeans, then so be it.

Mind you, trying to wear clothes aimed at 20 year olds when you're in your mid forties doesn't necessarily look that good either - not saying you have to wear mumsy or "age appropriate" clothes, but perhaps not the extremes of fashion.

Sorry, but if you're worried about looking dated then bootcuts are to be avoided. Fine on Jennifer Aniston in a 1998 episode of Friends, not right for now. No amount of dark rinses and Converse will save you - that's just deluded.

It's fashion, dammit - it's brutal and there's a clue in the title. On the other hand you might be above such matters as trends, in which case go right ahead and wear your bootcuts with pride.

VivaLaSativa · 17/01/2012 11:25

You can wear what you like. People that allow magazines and shops dictate what they have to wear are stupid and obviously blinkered to the wasteful consumerism that they are being brainwashed with, they also tend to make more fashion disasters. Cuffed jeans, hareem pants and leggings anyone? also pussybow shirts. I rest my case.
I still wear bootcut jeans, skinnys look heinous with trainers.

noddyholder · 17/01/2012 11:26

Only if you have big feet

VivaLaSativa · 17/01/2012 11:37

Converse trainers and skinny jeans are a dreadful combination, even on younger people. I mean if you are going to wear skinny jeans at least wear heels or boots. Nowt wrong with boot cuts at all, they still look great for a casual look. Following fashion like a religion is sad, really sad and there are much better and more important things to spend money on.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/01/2012 11:44

Oh i love a pussybow blouse.

And agree that a slim bootcut in indigo denim with some good heels is a supremely flattering look.

It is totally how you wear them.

I have some nudie slim bootcuts and often wear them out for dinner with an equipment silk shirt, high heels and a leopard print clutch - most definitely not mumsy.

But I also like skinnies and find them easier in the winter with boots.

Slim bootcuts also work well in summer with a nice wedge sandal underneath.

noddyholder · 17/01/2012 11:45

Viva it is sad to you but many love it. If you can afford it why not? Converse look great with skinnies.

KandyBarr · 17/01/2012 11:46

Bravo, Viva, I do applaud your independence of mind. If only everyone was like you, there would be no need for threads like this and we could all go and do something worthy instead.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/01/2012 11:51

Sorry - is this S&B or not Wink

noddyholder · 17/01/2012 11:52

Smile.

Quenelle · 17/01/2012 11:52

What shoes do you wear with straight leg jeans? I like converse but don't want to wear them at the moment because they are not waterproof and have very thin and slippery soles.

mousyMouse · 17/01/2012 11:53

I can't get skinnies over my thighs as well. so bootcut and/or curvy it is. don't care if it is mummsy or not.

Quenelle · 17/01/2012 11:55

Oh God, could I be more mumsy and sensible??

IWantMyHatBack · 17/01/2012 11:58

Of course you can, as long as they fit you well and aren't too short.

Skinny, or straight leg look shite on me. Bootcut make my legs look longer and less fat.

But then, I never stopped wearing them.. and I've never been a fashion vicitm. Wink

grafit · 17/01/2012 11:59

I can't wear skinnies with converse as I have enormo feet and it makes me feel like Max Wall

KandyBarr · 17/01/2012 12:06

There are other options - it's not just a bootcut/skinny divide, and personally I wouldn't be seen dead in skinnies. I love boyfriend jeans - very flattering to the waist, great with trainers, all of that. There's a world out there if you look.

VivaLaSativa · 17/01/2012 13:07

I do adore clothes, I came across as if I didn't there, My point is that style is timeless, and fashion tends to be about limited longevity trends.
Different strokes for different folks, Wear what you feel good in and what suits your shape.

Don't aim to be trendy, Converse and skinnys just have a look of "I desperately wish I were a teen still". Not elegant at all, and casual can still be elegant.

Skinny jeans with heels, boot cuts with trainers. Its just wrong any other way.

VivaLaSativa · 17/01/2012 13:15

My sister always wears boyfriend jeans, She is all arse iykwim, and cant squeeze into skinnies, other cuts look wrong but these are perfect for her shape. I just mention bc as default, I only wear skinnies and bc, all other cuts are wrong on my shape. e2a I do know they exist.
