How much are you willing to pay for a 6 year olds haircut?

Is it ever worth going to T and G or is it just the same result paying a fiver up the road?

A fiver.

I wouldn't pay T&G prices for a nipper.

katkitya · 04/01/2012 23:52

I don't know why this has come up twice. I popped into T and G today and it's 17. I found it strange that the cut off age for children is only 12.

It can be the same as paying a fiver up the rd (actually I pay £6 plus tip).

At T&G essensuals I pay £13 but know 100% DDs very short bob will be perfectly straight. Up the road I have to pray I don't get the vacant girl who looks like she would much rather be at home watching TV. She wasn't even looking as she cut and the result was a disaster. And DS says "this place looks old fashioned" in a very loud voice Blush (Well it was last refitted in 1976- MIL has had her weekly wash and set there every week since)

Depends how good up the road is.

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2012 23:56

Up the road tehy only charged me £1 for DSs fringe cut last Easter, and gave him an Easter egg. I think I came out quids up.

piprabbit · 05/01/2012 00:01

Ummm - I do it myself, so at the moment I'm not prepared to pay anything for a professional cut.

katkitya · 05/01/2012 00:04

She wants it cut into a short bob. I know you get fringe trims for free afterwards but, seriously, does anyone take them up on the offer?

DIY, best haircut ever, let's be realistic, what is 6 y old know about haircut

poorbuthappy · 05/01/2012 20:51

I have paid £20 for dd1 to have her haircut.
in my defence (ahem) the hairdresser restyled her hair into a lovely bob, and it took just as much time as it would have to have done mine.

Just because its a smaller head doesn't mean it doesn't take skill!
(disclaimer obv not talking about a first haircut, fringe trim, dry cut ends off only)

poorbuthappy · 05/01/2012 20:51

done mine
had mine done...

awful grammer sorry Grin

poorbuthappy · 05/01/2012 20:52

bloody hell can't even spell tonight...

grammar...

Tony and Guy gave me the worst haircut on the planet. I wouldn't let them loose on my dog, let alone a six year old DC.

GeorgeEliot · 05/01/2012 21:03

Local barber charges £6.80. Includes free lollipop and 2-day old copy of the Sun for Mum to read while she's waiting.

Never take the dc anywhere else. Boys though - might pay more if I had a girl.

katkitya · 06/01/2012 16:54

I think all Toni and Guys are different though

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 06/01/2012 16:58

depends on reputation of that particular t and g.
we pay 6.50 for decent dc trim.

Tonksforthememories · 06/01/2012 17:01

My Hairdresser charges me a fiver for both DDs, age 6 & 8. Perfect every time and she's lovely!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2012 17:08

Just paid £21 for both of mine, DD has a shortish bob, DS has a short, boy's cut with scissors. We go to one of those children's salons where they can watch DVDs and there are no dryers and clippers making sudden noises all the time and it is worth every penny because DS used to be completely phobic about gettin a haircut and would get hysterical, he behaves perfectly in this place, feels comfortable there (he has AS).

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2012 17:08

They are 5 and 7 btw.

sobenobu · 06/01/2012 17:22

My hairdresser charges £15, the one up the road is £8.

It's nearer and much more child friendly, so everyone's happy with the cheaper one. I wouldn't want to pay more than that at the moment, but I have been promising a hairwash and blow-dry etc. for ages.

ladyasriel · 06/01/2012 19:04

A bob isn't an easy cut so I would shell out the extra so long as I knew the hairdresser. A quick trim is different.

KateShmate · 06/01/2012 19:09

Have taken DD's to one of those childrens hairdressers and costs about £8 - although last time we went, she offered to put some special plait in DD's hair.. then charged me £5 each for it!! Couldn't then change my mind because she'd already done it and faffed about for ages!

katkitya · 07/01/2012 13:19

Well we went to Toni and Guy and the hairdresser did a fab job. Bunches gone but she has a gorgeous bob. She loved getting her hair washed and a head massage I hope I haven't started anything. Although, when she came back to me she announced "i don't know whether that boy was gay or just a hairdresser" I ran her out of there.

OP posts:
katkitya · 08/01/2012 21:01

She's already asking when she can go back for her free trim, my sister is going to kill me Smile

I have always taken DD to my own hairdressers since she was 5 or 6 years old. It;s half the adult's price. DD is 9y now and her last haircut was £21 iirr. Cut off is 12y also.

But we had too many dodgy cuts from cheaper places where she was little. And I just don't want dodgy haircuts on my girl! So I pay to have the same hairdresser each time as I know they can cut hair well.

FWIW DD loves having her hair done. She loves having the hair wash and the finish at the end. She chats to her hairdresser. She likes having a drink and a snack. It's a nice experience for her and her hair looks nice afterwards.

Hulababy · 08/01/2012 21:06

Oh - and when DD had a fringe (now groing it out) our regular place never charged us for a fringe cut in between, ever.

ILoveDolly · 09/01/2012 09:16

We pay 6 pounds and get hair wash, dry and free fringe trims. It is the same hair dresser I go to. Very happy with that deal. Dd has v thick straight hair impossible to cut at home
