i see plenty of women, who are bigger than me, or same size as me, who look fantastic.

but i am clueless.

i have not bought any new clothes for about 3 years because i have no idea what to get. i keep waiting to lose weight, and this is clearly not going to happen, as i exercise regularly, i eat ok ish, i am now almost 40. i am hankering after being the 32 year old me who was 2 stone lighter, and that isnt going to happen.
i live in a friends cast offs and she is a size bigger than me. i look terrible!

so im a 14. im 5 feet 4 tall. i have good legs ( i run)
i am pear shaped, but i do have decent norks, im a 34 C and a 14 everywhere.
my face is not that bad considering. i dont look my age. my hair is in a long bob and is highlighted and cut well at a very good salon.

i look ok in leggings or skinny jeans if the top is long enough to just cover my hips.
i look ok in dresses if they are wrap or belted.
A line skirts are good on me.
no clingy tops though.

i often see people discussing dresses and the like on here....the great plains sale for instance, or the coast sale - and i imagine everyone who shops there is a size 10 and 6 feet tall.
so tell me that im wrong. tell me, if i can wear nice clothes and be a size 14?
then tell me where i can buy nice clothes....cos i am so sick of living in my mates size 16s.
i need help. really.

help dress me.

I'm a 12/14 (more a 14 atm) I have a huge flabby belly and a fat arse. I am also short. I want a pair of jeans that fit and I want to look "put together" some of the time.

Vicar - I'm going to steal ideas off this thread of yours.

I also need to go shopping sans enfants and get proper bras that fit and aren't digging into me (Blush) and not buy stuff that I don't really like, and think it's just a DFR Blush

(DFR = Do Fucking Rightly)

rookiemater · 28/12/2011 18:11

Changing I would highly recommend a trip to Bravissimo for the professionally fitted bras.
Am loving the DFR - I do a lot of that with mail order sale stuff!

changingnicknameforxmas · 28/12/2011 18:14

Oh DFR applies to lots of things - I have a DFR car (my mother thought it was a brand, like Ford)

Bravissimo here I come then - won't the woman faint at my flabby belly and droopy norks? Blush

scotsgirl23 · 28/12/2011 18:31

Changing - Unlikely, they've seen mine and stayed conscious! Good bra makes a huge difference though

changingnicknameforxmas · 28/12/2011 18:37

I have started my own thread Blush sorry for the hijack vicar

racingheart · 28/12/2011 18:46

Hi

they've sold out of the sweater dress online - that's why it won't link. Might have it in store though.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/12/2011 20:05

MrsHankey thanks for linking that other thread! getting inspired!

racing - ta anyway.

changing - you hijack away girl! the more the merrier! im realising that if i perhaps widened my horizons a little i could be better dressed, (if still a little bigger than id like)

when i say im a pear - i am a pear, but with boobs, a bit of a tummy and im same size top and bottom, but still somehow i am pear! or maybe im a skittle. who knows. im defo a 14 top and a 14 bottom and ive only just come to accept it

i have had a good look at phase eight, hobbs, great plains, Wallis, i just wish id been a little quicker off the mark with the sales, but never mind. perhaps i could just buy one item each month, and build a nice wardrobe that way.
Im trying to pluck up the courage to order on line...just worried about returns.

(the last time i ordered from next i sent for £400 of stuff and i sent it all back, but next is rubbish and im off them....)

ThatVikRinA22 · 29/12/2011 00:09

god ive gone a bit mad....

ive ordered a leather bag from M&S
leather boots and flats from Next

ive ordered this
to wear with black boots and red opaques...do you think thats a bit Hmm also ordered some black tights just in case i chicken out of the red ones....

and 2 tops from dotty ps....and a pair of skinny jeans.

as well as the dress from great plains. now, who would like to take bets on how much of it goes back?

OP posts:
MaryWiselyornotatall · 29/12/2011 07:31

I think I am about the same size and shape as you, and I tried on that very dress recently. I didn't buy it, as it looked awful on me, as did the wrap dress from Phase eight in camel and black . But I did get the sweater dress in the shop, and it is fab.

Am I the only person who can't wear a wrap dress without looking like a dinner lady in an overall? And I do wear very good bras - Fantasie - so not because of droopiness - but have not tried on a flattering wrap dress so far.

changingnicknameforxmas · 29/12/2011 09:00

I can't wear wrap dresses. They make my stomach look even more massive than it is already Blush

Am nervous for tomorrow - am planning to at least get a pair of tan boots with a heel for with skinnies tomorrow.

But I have no jeans that fit

rookiemater · 29/12/2011 09:05

That jumper dress from DPs looks fab, very similar to a couple of jumper dresses I have which I wear with black patent boots and coloured tights. I haven't quite graduated on to red yet, but I'm sure it will look great.

I find jeans and tops always a risk to order online, but fingers crossed you get lucky.

Post some photos once you get your new glad rags !

MW on wrap dresses - unless they are fixed wraps I think they have had their day. I have some and loved them for a bit then bought an overly patterned one and thought house dress and haven't worn any of them since.

I have this www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Dresses/Megan-Ruched-Detail-Dress/201371731 in black and it has many of the merits of a wrap dress - i.e. pulled in at the waist, quite fitted but not tight, without the low cleavage or drooping waist tie syndrome that I seemed to get.

OP just one more to consider that isn't dissimilar from the jumper dress you got, but is fab because dressy enough for work or even an evening out, I have had loads of compliments on this www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Dresses/Ripple-Stitch-Dress/201426050

changingnicknameforxmas · 29/12/2011 09:31

I love the dotty P dress vicar - might get it tomorrow Wink

MaryWiselyornotatall · 29/12/2011 09:36

Rookie, we must be tuned in to the same clothes, because I also bought the ripple stitch dress which looks great on. Think I will get lots of wear out of it. Only had a recent splurge because of a tax rebate - not loaded with cash.

rookiemater · 29/12/2011 10:07

Ah well MW then I shouldn't recommend this www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Dresses/Stripe-Velvet-Burnout-Dress/201502050 at all, gorgeous to wear out with leggings and a M fits me well which is always nice.
Must stay out of Phase Eight for a while.....

ThatVikRinA22 · 29/12/2011 11:26

well i only ordered the dotty p stuff cos A) its cheap as chips and B) there is one in this very small town so if none of its right i can return it without standing to queue for hours at the one and only post office here....

i am loving the stuff in phase eight, i wonder if there is one in meadowhall in sheffield? i could do with a good wander around and try on session, on my own without DH huffing and puffing about the time it takes me. I would love to invest in some nice clothes. I am embarrassed to admit this but if i am not in my work uniform i am usually in pyjamas - thats how much i have to wear - that or my friends cast offs but they are all size 16s and bury me. i look ridiculous and fatter than i am in them.

so, a trip to the shops is in order i think. i had got so fed up of going shopping and coming home with nothing because nothing looks nice on me, i hope at least some of this stuffive ordered on line fits/looks ok. fingers crossed.

OP posts:
MaryWiselyornotatall · 29/12/2011 12:49

Damn you, rookie. Love it. Now will be absolutely forced to visit Phase Eight again. Still got a bit of cash left. Best recent bargain is wonderful coat - Planet - £249 new price - in outlet shop for £59. Should last for years.

Tinselrella · 29/12/2011 13:34

Orm, the dress is fine on me but I am shorter in the body and longer in the legs, so it might just be me. Definitely worth giving it a try though. It is a lovely dress Smile

changingnicknameforxmas · 30/12/2011 07:11

Today is the day Shock

Clothes shopping for me but have to take a teen and a pre-teen.

Do we think it will go well?

Did buy a really nice fancy cardi in a local independent shop yesterday Smile

ThatVikRinA22 · 30/12/2011 11:30

good luck changing!

ive had an internet spree...could do with a RL one though! will do if most of my interweb purchases go back

come back and report any good finds!

OP posts:
changingnicknameforxmas · 31/12/2011 08:26

Well yesterday was a disaster - but not for the reason you might expect! Wink

DD's friend took a massive nose bleed and that stopped play Sad we had to come home just after lunch

ThatVikRinA22 · 31/12/2011 15:43

oh no!

im still awaiting my interweb purchases! so far i got the Next stuff - keeping a black pair of boots which are fab.,

these ones

the others i sent for looked like wellies and were massive around the calf.
so as suspected the rest if off back! still - 1 out of 3 aint bad (for me!)

looking forward to trying the other stuff then i may even venture out to meadowhell...

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 03/01/2012 11:59

got the m & S bag this morning - very pleased with that. its lovely, leather. so so far i ve got some black boots and a black bag. (not very adventurous!)

still awaiting the dotty p stuff, the great plains stuff and the jones bootmaker boots....

OP posts:
totallyscunnered · 03/01/2012 14:19

I got a pair of M&S Per Una jeans yesterday, and they fit and look OK - and they were from the outlet shop and were only £15. I also got a couple of new tops which I'm pleased with.

I'm waiting on high heel brown boots, and I nearly bought a bag today but I talked myself out of it.

I have had a wardrobe clear out

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/01/2012 14:24

ive just looked in my wardrobe and also near to part with tons of "donated" clothes that dont fit

i got the dotty p stuff - the dress is absolutely perfect and im Angry now cos i wish id ordered the other colours. of course theyve all gone - just gone to website to see. bugger. looks great with red tights and the black boots. never thought id be able to wear a knitted dress in a month of sundays but doesnt show my stomach at all.

the jeans im keeping but they need taking up - only had 14 long! might keep one of the shirt tops - the other is off back.

so, waiting on the great plains dress, a top, and jones boots.

i think i may stick to internet shopping! its way more fun than trudging around the shops!

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 03/01/2012 20:09

yay! i found the dress in the other colours!

i am being way more adventurous in choosing things on line - sticking things in my basket id never try in a million years!

right now i am wearing the red tights with the charcoal jumper dress and black boots
whoa girl! Grin
