Not sure whether to post here or in health...but...

I am trying to take more care of myself (followed lots of advice on princessing thread & lost weight ) and am much improved in last 2 months Xmas Smile

BUT feel really tired ATT , get bad PMT MOODY, and suffer with IBS.

I have tried Multi vitamins with Pro biotics , but can t say they made any difference. My diet is good (generally ) and dont feel I need the vitamins to replace food iyswim.

Can anyone rec anything wonderful x

Freeze dried royal jelly on amazon and brewers yeast, kelp. All helped my skin and keep my weight down

EdithWeston · 26/12/2011 22:17

Evening Primrose might help the PMT.

lemonbonbons · 26/12/2011 22:23

Never thought of amazon for things like that !

Thanks both for the rec s ... will be doing some research next week.

Rhodiola Rosea - for exhaustion and chronic fatigue - make sure you get the Rosea variety - might need to buy it over the 'net because most health food stores don't stock Rosea.

5htp for pms - take last thing at night with a small carbo snack or some milk

A combined magnesium/calcium supplement last thing at night

Passiflora - for anxiety and insomnia

Valerian - for insomnia

Hops - for insomnia - will knock you out though

Kelp - for skin and hair

For IBS - try cutting out gluten for a couple of weeks. Take a daily Actimel Drink for probiotic help for gut.

EPO stops my feelings of wanting to kill DH PMS

I also get big boil type spots when I am due on and break open a capsule to put on it at night and it seems to reduce the spot a fair bit, but it could be my imagination

JustAnother · 26/12/2011 22:42

Swanson Biotin 5,000mcg - this makes a great difference to my hair and nails. I got it in the USA the first time while on a business trip and saw the difference straightaway. You cannot get this strengh in Holland and Barrett, but you can find it in Amazon.

Tablet form probiotics are well worth a go. The yoghurt ones are all killed by stomach acid before they do any good. I used to have IBS (random diarrhoea and cramps, bloating etc) and probiotics seem to have cured it.

lemonbonbons · 27/12/2011 09:56

Ta very much everyone - going to order some of the specific ones mentioned. ( not sure which yet ) . I think the one that stops you wanting to kill your husband might be first on the list tho Grin

for pmt i take vitamin D. its made a big difference.
watching the food hospital on tv the other week. there was a woman with very severe pms. they said she should take calcium and vit d to ease the symtoms.
it did work for her and its deffo worked for me. the pain is also lessened .

chubbybunny · 27/12/2011 11:06

Another vit D taker.

Any recommendations for joint pain/ stiffness for a vegetarian?

bettybigballs · 14/08/2013 08:58

Sorry for bumping a really old thread, feeling generally bleughh at the minute so interested to hear about any supplements that actually work for people?

goodasitgets · 14/08/2013 14:31

I use one by natures plus called source of life gold. Expensive but I do notice the difference

Missbopeep · 14/08/2013 14:42

There's been a lot in the press lately about the dangers of supplements- you really need to eat the food.

I think any difference is really placebo effect - from pills etc- because there are lots of yet unidentified factors in real food - so you need to increase your intake of all fruit and veg, oily fish etc and cut out sugars and refined carbs, caffeine and booze.

OneLittleLady · 14/08/2013 14:42

Cod liver oil capsules. No nasty taste and they have seemed to help my joints and stuff. Should be noted that I have a chronic nerve disorder in one arm that affects the bones and joints as well and I've definitely noticed an improvement in the flexibility of that arm since I started the capsules.

jumpinghoops · 14/08/2013 14:45

I am barely catching any sleep (3 month postnatal) and exhausted atm. I am using the following combo which is definitely helping me to feel a bit better (along with drinking tons of water):

Floradix twice a day
A Vit B12 spray thing from amazon
Lamberts Fish Oil x 3 a day
Lamberts acidophilus 10 once a day

Interestingly my baby DS had terrible stinky wind for a while and it doesn't smell at all since I've been taking the acidophilus (he's breastfed).

squoosh · 14/08/2013 14:58

The only supplement I take is Vitamin D as most of us in the UK are deficient. It really helped my psoriasis.

squoosh · 14/08/2013 15:00

Good quality fish oil is really good for your skin though.

Bexicles · 14/08/2013 15:04

I take Spirulina every day and have done for about ten years. I also take starflower or evening primrose oil capsules.

notyesterdaythankyou · 14/08/2013 15:27

I use Udos oil every day - buy it on Amazon. Just tip a bit on my salad, fish or whatever - generally makes me feels better and does good things for nails and skin.

JustBecauseICan · 14/08/2013 15:30

I am glad someone has bumped this thread as was thinking of starting a similar one!
I have been taking Omega 3,6 oils for about a month now (currently on buy one get one for 1p in Holland and barrett) and def feel less creaky in the hands and ankle joints.

Something I have read rave reviews about is Femergy and another one called Chlorella (similar to Spirulina I think)

BeCool · 14/08/2013 15:36

The BEST Multi vit you can afford.
Good quality Pro-Biotics.
Fish Oils or Flaxseed Oil.
The magic trio!

Aloe Vera can also be fab for a whole range of 'complaints'.

Deathwatchbeetle · 14/08/2013 18:08

Beware if taking the Floradix Iron supplement - the haematologist where I used to work - thought being veggie that I would be likely to take it (I didn't). She said it is not strong enough.

Lottapianos · 14/08/2013 18:10

I take Vit D as part of a multivit, Superdrug own brand. Vit D content is 100 percent rDA, is this good enough?

jimjamspam · 14/08/2013 18:15

I'm sure cod liver oil makes hair & nails shinier and stronger, can always tell when I'm taking it regularly

jumpinghoops · 14/08/2013 18:32

Deathwatch, that's useful to know. Did she recommend an alternative? My iron count always runs a little on the low side. Or anyone else? Any good recommendations for a multivit?
