With today being the biggest shopping day of the year.............

do you prefer to do it

(a) online, on the sofa with cafe au lait on tap and you're own loo

or

(b) with 3 million other bodies crammed into a shopping centre or town, sharing flu, pushing, shoving and generally being rude & noisy...

I'm a. I just don't get why people like (b) - apart from feeling and touching the stuff you're buying, which I do get. But not the crowds & choas.

Why would you....

I'll tell you why

I ordered a parka from River Island LAST FRIDAY 9th
Went into the shop on Saturday with daughter to check size woudl fit

She says' Ooh I like that. I need a new coat.' So, despite my reservations about mother/daughter twin thing, I bought her one. She's been wearing hers all week. Mine hasn't arrived yet

Instant gratification, my friend

Jessicaalbastwin · 17/12/2011 09:12

Definately A madamme I do it with a nice cuppa on My own without My Husband and 7 yr old dd, not on the loo though. Smile

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/12/2011 09:12

Online every single time because I can ponder at home when it arrives and try on with other things. Also much better selection online and generally can get a better price.

But the main reason is that shopping with small children in tow is just no bloody fun at all.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/12/2011 09:13

And loving cyb and her daughter as parka twins Grin

madammecholet · 17/12/2011 09:13

Ahh, i do like instand gratification cybbo, althou i do get that from a couple of clicks...Wink

I was never keen on the crowds and prefer to shop locally/online whenever possible.

Ironically, I now work in specialist retail in the West End and am currently on a train full of lemmings shoppers on my way to work.

ggirl · 17/12/2011 09:15

online , except it's pushing it a bit to rely on somehting being delivered on time now

OtterBaubles · 17/12/2011 09:16

Can you link the parka, please?

DD and I both need new coats, and I like the idea of doing the twin thing. Xmas Grin DD may, of course, have different ideas.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/12/2011 09:17

Specialist retail [intrigued]

madammecholet · 17/12/2011 09:17

instant Shock

But, in answer to the OP, I have done about half on-line, and half on the high street. However, I go in really early and get out by 10.30, avoiding the heaving masses.

madammecholet · 17/12/2011 09:19

marriednotdad I feel for you. Sending a motivational hug .... spill on the 'specialist retail'. I think I'm def a specialist shopper!

OP posts:
Cybbo · 17/12/2011 09:20

It's the same as this but for some reason mine had £30 off

But if yours comes before mine I'LL KILL YOU

OtterBaubles · 17/12/2011 09:27

Thanks, Cybbo. I just showed DD and asked what she thought, and she said, "What? For you? Right." and made this face, Hmm.

I feel silly now. Xmas Sad

The search continues.

monkeysmama · 17/12/2011 09:34

I really like that parka and an tempted to order one. I do have a big black puffa Barbour but really fancy a parka too.

I've done all my Christmas shopping on line. I went to Westfield in Stratford on a Monday morning in early December and it was heaving. I quickly decided it would be my last high street shop. I do have to face supermarket on Christmas Eve for veg etc though.

madammecholet · 17/12/2011 09:51

Nice parka..

I just hate the bun fight of it all today.... we're off for a walk and a pub lunch with friends instead..... it'll be mayhem , but I'll cope as i'll have a large glass of red in my hand.

Can't say that when you're in the queue in M&S!Wink

I've got that River Island Parka..looks nice but is not very warm. More of a fashion item. Comes up huge as well, I had to get size 8 when I was a 14 at the time Xmas Shock

marriednotdead · 17/12/2011 15:54

Specialist retail. For voluptuous women Xmas Wink

gregssausageroll · 17/12/2011 16:05

I am an A all the way. I don't mind a bit of shopping during working days closer to Christmas but only when I don't really have to buy anything!

tardisjumper · 17/12/2011 16:11

I feel the same way about grocery shopping tbh. Thereare downsides but they far outweight the screaming children thing.

I also saved huge amounts of money doing it online.

Plus I am lazy.

Cybbo · 17/12/2011 16:16

yes gold I ordered a 12 (am a 14, thought it would be tight) then tried on daughters 10 and it was perfect

NanAstley · 17/12/2011 16:28

This year I have done the entire Christmas shop online. I started on 28th November and by 10th December all the gifts had been delivered and are now all gift-wrapped and be-ribboned. We only went into town as a family to enjoy the atmosphere and visit the market stalls (we bought a fair bit at the stalls, but as they were extras and not main gifts, we enjoyed the experience).

Christmas has been much much better because of it. I am a convert!

CointreauVersial · 17/12/2011 21:41

OP, I'm with you all the way. On my sofa with my laptop.

I don't go near the shops on a Saturday beyond mid-November. I don't know why people leave it so blinking late (yes, I mean you, DH).

madammecholet · 17/12/2011 21:44

Done all mine online and it has all arrived.
Usually buy clothes online also.Hate crowded shops and 'malls' especially.
I like a wander around a little market town when on holiday.
