Ones that cover the arse.

Thinking along the lines of a berghaus or similar.

Don't want anything bulky though.

Merrell Haven completely waterproof (like water off a duck's back), amazingly warm(like an electric blanket), not bulky like this and on it's third year of wear and it still does what it is supposed to do - it is particularly brilliant if you are short - more arse/leg coverage.

Cons - not for fashion slaves.

Hollyfoot · 15/12/2011 22:00

I've got a down jacket from Lands End. Its brilliant.

piprobincomesbobbobbobbinalong · 15/12/2011 22:01

A Delaney from Lands End.

drowninginlaundry · 15/12/2011 22:12

don't own yet but will be getting either Fjallraven Kodiak Parka or Norrona /29 Gore Tex Primaloft Parka for the winter

BuckminsterFullerene · 15/12/2011 22:18

Ooh, go for the Norrona, they're gert lush!

Berghaus... no

BuckminsterFullerene · 15/12/2011 22:19

(I've got an Arc'teryx primaloft one but it's short)

statueofliberty · 15/12/2011 22:22

Merrel Wakefield ,got one last month.great.warm,not too bulky, water proof, quite smart looking too.

gilmoregirl · 15/12/2011 22:49

I've a seasalt janelle coat www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/janelle_coat_port.htm it is ok but not thrilling.

My friend got the wakefield and raves about it so I am v tempted to get one so will read this thread with interest

Parasaurolophus · 15/12/2011 23:11

I really like almost everything about my Didrikson Isabel except the pockets. I am going to need to get the pockets re-lined because they are ripping.

It is excellent at keeping the cold, wet, windy weather at bay.

daenerysstormborn · 16/12/2011 00:55

lands end squall. it's not the nicest looking of coats but rain runs off it and it's like walking round with a duvet wrapped round you.

PinkFondantFancy · 16/12/2011 01:22

I've got a pinky red regatta from Matalan. Was pretty cheap at IIRC £30 ish and is lovely and warm and waterproof.

trulyscrumptious43 · 16/12/2011 01:40

drowning do you think this
would be a warm one? Sorry have been following you with interest from the other coat thread and I know you are an expert!. I do not need a long coat btw, am far too active and it would get in the way.
I know it is a kids size but I'm an 8-10 and think it would fit, there's some on ebay for £30 which is almost within my means.

Littlepumpkinpie · 16/12/2011 11:22

Another Vote here for the Merrel Haven :)

shelldockley · 16/12/2011 11:57

Does anyone have this M&S down one? It's a pretty good price, but is it properly waterproof do we think?

seb1 · 16/12/2011 12:02

I have this and it is good Haddenbury reduced to £60

GooKingWenceslas · 16/12/2011 12:03

Another merell Haven owner. It's great :)

gilmoregirl · 16/12/2011 12:54

shelldockley I doubt that M and S one would be even water resistant as it makes no mention of any watertightness. Depends on how "waterproof" you need it to be. Down coats that are not waterproof are really only good for dry days as the down becomes v waterlogged once it is wet (as I know due to assuming that my northface parka was waterproof!)

Housewifefromheaven · 16/12/2011 13:12

North Face Metropolis Parker. Screws Folds up really small. Light. A sleeping bag with arms.

MrsHankey · 16/12/2011 13:33

I've got a Helly Hansen coat, very very warm, never cold wearing it.

shelldockley · 16/12/2011 15:21

Thanks gilmoregil, which North Face coat did you have? I now fancy the NF Arctic Parka, but v £££, I think it's waterproof though.

moragbellingham · 16/12/2011 17:27

Make sure you get the Insulated Wakefield if you want warmth as well as waterproofing.

drowninginlaundry · 16/12/2011 17:32

what's that trulyscrumptious the link doesn't work or am I being thick (again....)

who has snow? send some to Devon! I am absolutely roasting in my Bergans down jacket so would like it to be a bit colder

Rootbeet and some Khaki (Basil) Ellys in small sizes still available from Didriksons if anyone is still after them btw, everything else is finito

SantasENormaSnob · 16/12/2011 17:44

Oooh thanks for the replies.

I will have a look at those suggested and decide from there.

missmiss · 16/12/2011 17:48

I've got a Karrimor. It's shorter, though - sits on/just below the hips. Warm and waterproof though, and it only cost £35! (closing down sale at a local sports shop)

snowmummy · 16/12/2011 18:12

I've just bought a North Face upper west side jacket. Very warm. Not waterproof though - down jackets are not much good in the rain but they are toasty.
