So have you found a magic product/experience/technique/shop/anything that has the power to make you feel fab? Maybe a haircut/underwear/having your colours done/personal shopper.. What's your secret? FWIW mine is underwired nursing bras Wink.. but I'm hoping for plenty of non-lactating ideas!!

If my hair looks good then everything else seems to fall into place.

being well-groomed helps me feel great too.

As does finally, at the grand old age of 41, discovering my own personal fashion style. Now I know what I love and what suits me, I stress out about clothes a lot less and shopping is a hell of a lot easier.

MarshaBrady · 14/11/2011 16:25

Hair. Now I use Aveda I can't go back to cheaper stuff.

Nice soft, textures like suede boots or cashmere jumpers.

See some great friends and have some fun.

Jemimapuddleduk · 14/11/2011 17:24

I would recommend 'colour me beautiful' as a UK based place to have your colours done. They have reps based all over. I have been twice (clothes colours then make up), it cost around £40 each time.

babymutha · 14/11/2011 17:30

cycling a long way in autumn leaves (with or without small child), an early night, favourite clothes and spending ages doing make up. Smiling at strangers.

flowery · 14/11/2011 17:32

Agree about getting colours done, best thing I ever did style-wise, went to House of Colour which I thoroughly recommend.

Other tip is wearing clothes that fit you rather than clothes you can get in to.

mathanxiety · 14/11/2011 17:48

A decent night's sleep
A bra that fits
Jeans that don't look like 'Mom jeans' (bought in second hand shop so didn't break the bank either)
Mascara daily
Blusher daily
Moisturiser all over daily
Keeping my eyebrows mowed regularly nice and neat

Best thread ever. Will work through each one in turn...

CakeandRoses · 14/11/2011 20:11

cheerful 12 blueprints are the US based ones. they are slightly 'interesting' people (read some of their blog and you'll wonder what they've been smoking) but very good. their system has 12 seasons (ie bright spring, light spring etc) rather than the usual 4 altho the HoC system does correlate as it does have sub-seasons - eg i'm a paintbox spring which is a bright spring in 12BP terms.

oooh - high waisted jeans are my other tip. make you feel and look like you've lost half a stone.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/11/2011 20:16

Agree with a good bra - and a good dance. Hoists Fantasie bra up and turns up the volume for a bop.

CheerfulYank · 14/11/2011 20:26

Thanks Cake ! I have heard I am a clear winter Confused But I'm not sure what that means entirely. It has made me realize that brown looks crap on me. :)

NotTheBlinkingGruffaloAgain · 14/11/2011 21:24

this having your colours done thing- do I have to pay or can I just find a book about it? I.e brown hair blue eyes strawberry blonde skin= winter? sorry clutching at straws!

CheerfulYank · 14/11/2011 21:27

That's what I look like Gruffalo so probably. :) I'm pale but it's a rosy pale, with dark hair and light blue eyes.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/11/2011 21:29

Eyebrow threading
Botox Wink
Getting to my fighting weight
Having time/inclination to think about wardrobe
Having fun with it
Not having colours done - just wearing more make up when wearing black Wink [hides from njc]
But a good coat, handbag and pair of sunglasses works wonders.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 14/11/2011 21:34

www.colormebeautiful.com/seasons will give you an idea about your colours.

Gillybobs · 14/11/2011 21:37

Gruffalo Ive brown hair, bright blue eyes, pale skin and Im a Spring. Self diagnosing is v difficult!

CakeandRoses · 14/11/2011 21:39

i really think you have to be 'done' properly as it's apparently all in the subcutaneous layers of your fat/skin rather than the combo of your skin/hair/eyes. altho there are sometimes similarities between people of the same season, it's by no means that straightforward and most people seem to guess their season wrong.

even if you guessed right, you wouldn't benefit from knowing which are your 'starred' colours and which sub-season you are - and it really does make a huge difference.

Gillybobs · 14/11/2011 21:44

That colormebeautiful link only asks if my hair is dark/light and warm/cool then diagnoses me as Autumn. Im a Spring.

Cake is right, in our FB group for Springs we all have different eye/hair combos and yet are all Springs. There is more to it! I'd say take the plunge!

Flanelle · 15/11/2011 11:24

Getting plenty of sleep and plenty to eat and getting lots of lovely fresh air is the best self-esteem boost in the world. When you feel that good you can be bare-faced in a potato sack and look like a Goddess.

Eat when you're hungry / Drink when you're dry / Sleep when you're tired / And you'll never die.

Well not LITCH, OBVS. But pretty close.

See, I agree in principle with those colours, what season I'm supposed to be and what suits me. But what's the use of knowing that i should be wearing soft blue and greyish pink if the only colours available this season are black, grey and bright red?

NotJust, indeed it is cute! Too bad I have plenty of coats and could not justify another one..or could I? Hmm..

Any suggestions for nice work suits and dresses in summer colours?

marriedinwhite · 15/11/2011 13:59

Good cut and colour
Foundation, powder, mascara, blusher, lippy
nice underwear
