Is it possible to be a 32DD yet have 'small' boobs

Hmmmm. Not one of life's most profound questions I'll admit, but it sure is bugging me.

I've been 32A - 34E and everything in between owing to breastfeeding DD.

Been fitted in a few places recently and I'm now apparently a 32DD. Eh? I would consider myself to have small breasts tbh. I realise 32 is a smallish back size, but DD sounds mahoosive!

What's going on here. Have bra sizes really changed that much?

I've worn a 32c for a while now - somebody further up the thread said that women lose the tissue from the tops of their boobs, which I certainly have since bf - but the size of the wirey bit still needs to be the same iyswim (otherwise it would dig in - 32bs are def uncomfy). But I def don't fill a 32c properly anymore. What size should I try??

livesinashoe · 11/11/2011 21:09

(btw I wish I was a 32dd, I'd think I was mahoosive!! Grin)

mum23girlys · 11/11/2011 21:18

Gilmore if you go up a back size you go down a cup size. So if 32D was too tight on the back you should try a 34C. It can depend on the shop too though. I usually buy in Debenhams and am a 30E but I've identical bras in different colours and some fit really comfortably and others dig in to me. The lady that fitted mine last time said to try on every bra before I buy it as they're all different. If I buy a wonderbra I have to get a 32DD instead of 30E. No wonder so many women arre wearing the wrong size.... so confusing!

missmapp · 11/11/2011 21:29

Im a 32d and feel like I am as flat as a pancake, following BF 2 ds, they are shrunken andI never had a clevage anyway, i like Elle mcpherson bras tho', they fit really well and make my small boobs feel vaguely rounded!!

madmomma · 11/11/2011 22:49

God this is depressing. I relate to so many of these posts. My boobs are sad, empty sacks - flat at the top and would never be described as big, yet I am fitted in selfridges as a 32E, which sounds vast to me. Very weird. I can't believe that I need an E cup, and yet I have no chance of a cleavage at all, since the miserable bastards live in my armpits Sad

bigfatgypsy · 12/11/2011 09:10

I'm probably a 30DD and I too had previously spent my life wearing 34A/B - I think it's actually a very common size but because we have all been told to add 4 inches there are loads of 34 bands in shops and much fewer 30s.

My problem is price - I'm a cheapskate so would prefer to pay less than say £15 for a bra but the makes people recommend seem to be ££s. Are any cheaper bras good or do you really get what you pay for?

WhollyGhost · 12/11/2011 09:16

I find cheaper bras good - for about two weeks - they go bad quicker than the expensive ones, which do also go bad. Why can't they make bras that are not designed to be disposable?

The last time I was measured I was told that they fit the bra to fit on the loosest hook, so that as they get worn you can get more use out of the bra by tightening it.

smartyparts · 12/11/2011 10:51

I am a 32D but was wearing a 36A before I went to Rigby & Pellar! I consider myself small busted.

bigfatgypsy Big fan of www.brastop.com for that very reason. New curvy kate range is decent imo. Quality seems to be as good as some of the more expensive ones, and you can pick up on sale for a tenner if your timing is good. Its normally £20+ but they heavily discount on the website for last seasons stock.

talkingnonsense · 12/11/2011 13:15

I am the opposite to you lot- my boobs look big ( verging on matronly) but I wear a 38c ( occasionally 36d as easier to find, but that is genuinely slightly too big in the cup). I have a very deep rib cage so I think it makes my boobs very visible. My sister wears a 32d, yet has tiny boobs compared to mine!

spugglers · 12/11/2011 14:32

I was a 32dd for years and years but put on weight after having children and went right up to a 38B. I'm losing weight at the moment and this week I am a 34D. My bra size is changing by the week as I'm losing inches. I can't afford to buy a new bra every week so I'm just making do with what I've got for now. Today I'm wearing a 34ff but yesterday I was wearing a 36d and there doesn't seem to be much difference in the size. The one i am wearing today feels a bit loose round the back but a bit small in the cups, but that shouldn't be the case should it?

spugglers · 12/11/2011 14:40

So do we no longer add 4 inches? I measure 30 under my rib cage and 37 across my bust so I thought that made me a 34D?

HazleNutt · 12/11/2011 14:55

No that makes you about 30F spugglers

spugglers · 12/11/2011 15:15

Thanks hazelnutt. Pre children my measurements were 26 under bust and 34 over bust, I was wearing a 32dd but I guess I should have been wearing a 28FF that sounds so odd! I was very narrow not particularly thin just narrow. I was fitted for a bridesmaid dress and the dressmaker said she had never come across someone so narrow before (hmm).

MargeryDaw · 12/11/2011 15:39

I would agree that M&S are definitely part of the reason why so many of us are suddenly wearing bras that are smaller underneath and larger cup sizes. They measured me at a 36B which I wore for years until I went for a fitting in John Lewis and the woman pulled my bra strap about a foot away from my back and asked me if I really thought it was a good fit....I went to a 32D after that.

I've now been breastfeeding for 8 months so god knows what I am now but my nursing bras are 34F. I can't wait to get remeasured and start wearing pretty bras again!

LillyVal · 17/07/2017 10:15

I am a 36 DD and I still feel like they are small, back when I was still a 34 D I got asked by my friends if I was sure, that I looked like I was flat chested, I would get defensive because I would never go that far

happinessbythekilowatt · 17/07/2017 10:22

I'm a 28G and people say my boobs are big although I don't think they're massive.

They're definitely big for my frame (4-6) so that makes them appear larger I think.

happinessbythekilowatt · 17/07/2017 10:27

It just annoys me though that I'm 19 and i can't easily buy pretty bras - they're all massive, full cup hideous things! I'd bet a lot more women are these bra sizes here that most consider 'unusual' (small back, large cup etc) but few are measured//or are measured incorrectly. Angry The bras I find are often SO unflattering, give no cleavage and I'm so annoyed with it!

ScrambledSmegs · 17/07/2017 10:34

I'm a bloody 28G, it's really not the massive rack Hmm that everyone seems to think it is.

It was quite hard finding bras that are attractive and fit me properly though, but I've found a few brands that work and stick with them now.

32D sounds quite wonderful actually, so much more choice. Wish I was a D cup .

LaArdilla · 17/07/2017 13:26

No, because your back is small. We're conditioned to think anything D+ is some sort of massive size, but on 32, 30 or 28 sized ribcages, it's only a measure of protrusion I think, or tissue anyway. A D cup on a 36 or 38 ribcage isn't the same breast size as one on a 30, anyway, because it's measuring a ratio not the breast itself.

I got measured as a 28C or D in Bravissimo. Totally pointless as I'm not spending on specialist bras. I found that H&M's 32Bs fit just fine, on the tightest setting.

curvylady4 · 23/04/2018 15:41

I used to go to m and s for fittings a long time ago but was measured by them as a 34C which never fit. so I tried Debenhams and was surprised to find that I am a 30ff/32f but they don't look huge. they look big enough for my frame but not large.

I went to Bravissimo and was measured the same size by them.Smile
I am happy with my size and they are proportionate to my.body as I am only 5'1.

Ridiculouslyso · 23/04/2018 16:44

I'm a 28DD according to booborbust. I haven't been able to yet get a bra in that size but my boobs are really not big at all. I don't need much support, can wear bralets, and am a small size 8.

Ratherbehome · 23/04/2018 16:54

When I was breastfeeding I wore a 30DD (or 28 if I could find it). I felt like my boobs were huge then! But I am quite a small person, slim, small frame etc. Before breastfeeding I wore a 34C, as measured by m&s, but I'm pretty sure that was wrong. Now I have 2 empty sacks. I'm guessing one is a an A cup and the other a B but I'm too depressed about it to go and get measured. I've been wearing bralets.
