Sob! I spent $173 on having my hair coloured and it's feckin' yellow.

I swear the hairdressers had special lighting so you couldn't really tell.

Just did the school run and one of my dd's friends (8) came running over and said "Your hair! It's funny. I liked it how it was before". DD (also 8) just keeps looking at me with her head on one side and a puzzled expression. DS (6) burst into tears.

This is not a good look.

I've been blonde for a while, not white blonde or anything, just y'know, sunkissed and all, but it's so expensive to get it coloured I haven't been to the hairdressers since early June.

All I asked was that the roots could be the same colour as the ends. [head in hands emoticon] The hairdresser was a recommendation by someone at school but was 45minutes drive away. I don't want to go all the way back there.

Oh wondrous people, stylish people, people with non-yellow hair of Mumsnet, help me. I'll have to go back to brown I think, is it possible to do it at home (without seeing another fecking hairdresser) and not turn out bright green?

I'm doing that whole self-deprecating ''Yes, I know, it's awful, ah well, it's only hair" thing but I feel like shit.

Can you not justify another drip to a different hairdresser who will sort it for you? Spend as much as possible. I recently had awful highlights done and so threw money at the situation as it was making me feel so down. It may only be hair but you're going to see it every time you look in the mirror.
Any chance the kids are wrong? Do you have someone you can trust to be honest with you?

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 10/11/2011 06:54

I have, in my 37 years on this planet, found one hairdresser who didn't make me want to run home and wash my hair.

She is 10,000 miles away, which is entirely unreasonable of her Grin.

I know what you are saying RottenRow but I've just spent the equivalent of over 100 pounds. It's a lot of money. I really can't justify spending that sort of cash, twice, in one week.

You really have to go back.

Phone them.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 10/11/2011 08:03

I just want to pretend I've never heard of them .

And I'm lazy. The supermarket dyes seem like an easier option.

And I really want to take my destiny into my own hands

Look, I have previous for being a doormat not being very assertive.

I am getting better but that would be a huge step I'm not ready!

With a supermarket dye you really do run the risk of ending up khaki. I saw this happen to friend.

It just not worth it.

planetpotty · 10/11/2011 08:21

Right I know this sounds mad but.. Google silver shampoo when I worked in a salon if hair had a yellow tinge it the shampoo brings the yellow tone down Hmm vaguely remember something about ash tones (was a wee while ago!)

Or take photo email salon and explain not happy - honestly it happens all the time. To them it's a product and they dont get offended. They dont want a walking advert of a bad hair do! I'd explain that you would prefer a refund as you don't want to travel and you may get it. However the most likely is they will want to fix it themselves.

Good luck - please do speak to them and don't chicken out - honestly we had it at least once a week and sometimes for no real good reason but we would still redo it. One woman cottoned on and basically got free extensions for about 3 months!! The boss did them the last time and then banned her very politely from coming again as he ushered get out of the swanky reception Smile

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 10/11/2011 08:46

I had some of the blonde colour toner at home which I left on for 10 minutes in a desperate attempt to calm it down. It did a bit of a job but not completely.

My DH has just got home from work and had a fit of the giggles Hmm thanks DH. He then lied said it wasn't that bad which as we all know means Ye gods woman what were you thinking?

Am laughing and crying at the same time - what a mess.

aww jesus! i know how you feel! I had my hair bleached at the hairdressers and it snapped. It went from shoulder blade length to above my ears in 2 hours. Was gutted!! A home dye will saturate your hair and it'll be unlikely that you can dye it blonde again with out stripping it. Dangerous territory if you want to ever lighten it as- it will end up above your ears.
I really think you have to go back or go to someone to put a silver based toner on it. Phone them first and that way you dont have to do the confrontation face to face.
The hair dressers will know themselves if its really that bad. They'll be relying on you not to say anything. Its a LOT of money for your hair you you are entitled to at least acceptable hair!
Phone them!!
Do it now..
Go on!!
[bullying emotion]

SoupDragon · 10/11/2011 09:50

You could try washing it loads with Head and Shoulders. This helps with dark colours but it may help get the yellow toned down a bit and it is probably risk free.

mirpuppet · 10/11/2011 10:04

Go back. Let them sort it out -- they are the professionals.

I would not try a home solution before letting the salon sort it.

planetpotty · 10/11/2011 10:04

If it is yellow it basically has not been left on long enough or an incorrect level of lightening power has not been used to get to a nice blonde colour. It's like painting a brown wall with magnolia paint, after say two coats the colour would not be magnolia but the third would take it to the desired colour. If a decorator came and left you with a yucky streaky wall instead if magnolia you would ask them to fix it, same applies here. Honestly ring and say "I feel so uncomfortable about complaining but The colour hasnt come out properly and it's only once I got home that I really noticed it, how can we fix it as I can't walk around like this!"

Paying that amount of money you should expect good results and service. It's very common that people come back later and say urrrggh what's this please fix. Smile

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 10/11/2011 12:28

Right, ok, you win. I'll go back.

My scalp is now erupting in scaly crunchy patches so it's definitely not 'all good'. Am going to shove a load of Moroccan oil on and go to bed.

I'll report back...

ChablisLover · 10/11/2011 13:23

Go back and complain.

Plus they will be able to put another colour on top without a reaction hopefully.

Let us know how u get on

TheOriginalFAB · 10/11/2011 13:26

If you have put more dye in yourself they might not be willing to do anything and use that as an excuse.

Chandon · 10/11/2011 14:10

please call them and explain, and ask them to fit you in to sort it out.

porcamiseria · 10/11/2011 14:42

agree, go back!!!!! take deep breath, and sort it

EssentialFattyAcid · 10/11/2011 17:41

The only sensible course of action is to go back and ask for a fix

Fixing it yourself is likely to make it a lot worse

Getting another salon to fix it will be £££

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 11/11/2011 07:35

Right, well, I phoned this morning and they said I'd have to go in.

So I drove the 45minutes to WoodyPuddle (not it's real name Smile) and they very nicely told me to fuck off.

Apparently - this is the colour I asked for. Apparently I'd misled them by saying I wanted the roots the same colour as the end (no, I don't know how). And apparently they wouldn't be able to do anything for a month while the colour 'beds in' or was it 'settled down'.

I may have embarrassed myself at this point by bursting into tears. So I was kindly directed to the door and escorted to the car park.

That's what happens when you try to make a doormat stand up for herself.

So I came home and did lots of googling. I've fixed it (sort of) by putting on a permanent red colour and then putting brown on the top of that. It's not perfect - not by any means - but it's just going to have to do.

DS still cried because it's too dark now. Honestly - there's no pleasing some children!

Thanks for holding my hand yesterday, I really did appreciate it.

Ensure you give a bad review if them everywhere you go.

Wankers

mirpuppet · 11/11/2011 08:20

I agree -- name & shame. Their behaviour is deplorable.

EssentialFattyAcid · 11/11/2011 08:32

completely unprofessional salon - I hope you at least got a refund? If not I would have stood at the entrance warning other customers until I got one
Sad

Clarabumps · 11/11/2011 09:49
