I am determined to pay more attention to personal grooming in the new year, for dh's sake.

What are your beauty secrets? A friend of mine got me into dry brushing and now I am evangelical. Any other tips besides the usual get 8 hours sleep, don't drink, don't smoke, exercise, be calm and serene...

But how do you dry brush and what sort of brush do you need?!!

hermykne · 11/01/2006 20:47

blossom
thats something i nver knew about molluscums and 8 hr cream, jesus i am going to pour it on now, use it occasionally after a windy day, thanks!

sounds like some dreadful skin disorder mollucums, just tiny wont go away even with 400 galloons of water whiteheads!

Marie12 · 11/01/2006 20:48

yeah what is dry brushing

expatinscotland · 11/01/2006 20:55

I use a dry brush from E'Spa.

northerner · 11/01/2006 21:09

Can't beleive noone's mentioned Touche Eclat by Yves St Laurent - amazing stuff!

snafu · 11/01/2006 21:13

No.7 Matte makeup base (or whatever it's called) - just need a teeny bit to keep skin looking matte and even for the whole day - I no longer have a shiny nose!

Also like Tresemme products for hair - really good value and don't make my hair greasy.

After years of spending far too much on Clarins, etc and still looking like a dog's dinner, I've given up and turned to the cheapo stuff in 2006 - and am getting more compliments on my apperance than ever

NotThePlasticJodee · 11/01/2006 21:35

Snafu, what cheapo stuff do you use now (speaking as another who used to spend a fortune on Clarins!)

mckenzie · 11/01/2006 21:42

I've also made a pact with myself to take more care of my skin now. I've just started using the Elle MacPherson range which i love but someone has bought me lots of the Champneys range (from Sainsbury i think) and it is divine. My skin feels sooooo soft.

Tortington · 11/01/2006 23:20

soap, water, vitamin E cream

polly28 · 12/01/2006 00:22

liz earle's cleanse and polish is fantastic!

touche eclat

Revlon colourstay mascara, lasts for 3 dys and never runs.

poppiesinaline · 12/01/2006 12:38

Someone tell us what dry brushing is!!!

acnebride · 12/01/2006 12:44

if you're feeling in the mood to spend loads and have spent ages trying to find a foundation that suits you, then blow the budget and go to Prescriptives for a custom blend. It is amazing. And in fact so far my tube has lasted over 18 months (it's probably off but it looks OK).

Another vote for eyebrows. TBH I find shaving them works fine, if you're careful not to do it when drunk and shave the lot off, and it eliminates the pain - I could never bear more than about 2 hairs plucking.

CountessDracula · 12/01/2006 12:46

dry brushing

No good for me I have eczema

gscrym · 12/01/2006 12:50

I've started using Lush Babyface Cleanser Bar (jar version is Ultrabland), Tea-Tree water and Ultralight moisturiser. Also started using their solid shampoo bars and hair looks better than it has in ages. Also, no dry scalp or dandruff!

MrsBadger · 12/01/2006 12:51

dry brushing I
dry brushing II
dry brushing III
I'm too lazy and just use a loofah mitt thing with my shower gel

twirlaround · 12/01/2006 13:22

is dry brushing only for the body then?

MrsBadger · 12/01/2006 13:57

The Body Shop do a special soft brush for faces - not sure where else you'd want to brush!
Bet it would do wonders removing scum from shower cubicle though...

Turquoise · 12/01/2006 14:08

I've also given up on Estee Lauder, Clarins etc but have dry, sensitive, excema prone skin. I've been using Eucerin lipo balance moisturiser and it's bloody fantastic, about £8 a pot from Boots. Fantastically moisturising without being greasy, brilliant under makeup, good for wrinkles and I use it both night and day (partic good for avoiding the cross-channel swimmer look at night when you want to look reasonably sexy yet have to moisturise).

beejay · 12/01/2006 14:10

Clarins beauty flash balm esp when hungover.
Makes you look 5 years younger and like you slept a good ten hours

Piffle · 12/01/2006 14:12

eve lom cleanser a modern miracle
clarins beauty flash not sure how it works buts its fab
benefit foundation in a stick
get eyebrows waxed every 3 weeks and keep hair nice every 6-8 weeks
also the loreal micro dermabrasion kit is FABULOUS

beejay · 12/01/2006 14:14

What is so good about eve lom cleanser? Everyone ( welll all the magazine editors) raves about it but loathe to buy without an honest recommendation ( is that spelled correctly?)

bossykate · 12/01/2006 14:15

i must be doing something wrong with my beauty flash balm then!

Enid · 12/01/2006 14:19

eve lom is lovely and you will really see a difference after a week

I dont need to use moisturiser much when I use it either

Piffle · 12/01/2006 14:21

yes I rarely need to use moisturiser only actually when I slap on beauty flash
I am using my mothers eve lom cleanser without her noticing as cannot afford it ... yet....
she is not into beauty stuff so hoing she'll take pity and give it to me

bossykate · 13/01/2006 13:19

so when you use the beauty flash balm, do you put your moisturiser on first? maybe that's where I'm going wrong, I don't use moisturiser with it. salesgirl told me when i bought it i wouldn't need to.
