Why do middle aged women dye their hair that flat brown colour, the shade of cheap chocolate?

It's horrid. Stop it.

who gives a fuck?

If they want a blue rinse, so what? Why do you care? Hmm

Jaquelinehyde · 22/09/2011 19:35

I couldn't give a rats ass about hair.

Mine is bloody awful, like a head of rats tails and as limp as a drunk old man. The natural colour is...yes you guessed it cheap chocolate brown and I bloody hate it.

However, it will probably be falling out in the next few weeks so then I shall be rocking the fat face and bald look, life just keeps getting better. I'm hoping I will re-grow thick, luscious perfect coloured hair but it is doubtful.

I'm actually looking forward to grey Grin

This is funny.

Normally OP's such as this get to post offensive bollocks and all the rest of their quiche come in and back them up.

Not so tonight Grin

TheFlyingOnion · 22/09/2011 19:49

oh yes - unfunny OP = other posters have had a sense of humour bypass...

that old chestnut....

kickingking · 22/09/2011 19:53

What IS the MN approved Nice and Easy shade of brunette?

HouseOfBamboo · 22/09/2011 19:54

C'mon Moondog, spill, what colour's your barnet? I'm guessing a burgundy / Goth mix, am I right?

Dumbledoresgirl · 22/09/2011 19:56

Oh God Moondog, thanks for that. You have described me.

FWIW, I do it because I was a gorgeous brunette in my yoof and I am not yet ready to go blond, red or grey.

HouseOfBamboo · 22/09/2011 20:01

oh and fwiw, I used to totally rock the flat brown colour with white rootage. Oh yes.

SansaLannister · 22/09/2011 20:03

Mine is cheap chocolate brown from a box because it's about 50% grey, I'm only 40 and don't want to be grey.

Anyone who wants to pay for me to have it professionally coloured every six weeks is welcome to step up. :)

Alouiseg · 22/09/2011 20:07

Actually it's such an easy trap to fall into, you start having your roots touched up when the grey appears and before you know it Pauline Prescott and Nancy Dell Olio are staring back at you from the mirror!

Natural hair is never just one colour, it's made from myriad shades which a dye can never replicate. I have alternate dark roots and low lift tint highlights. It's doing the trick for now I think but after about 40% grey I may have to rethink. Blue rinse anyone?

The first colourist who can replicate the colour and shine of a conker will win my Nobel prize.

HouseOfBamboo · 22/09/2011 20:22

ooh I'd love a conker head.

Trouble is, doesn't matter how lovely the dye job is if your natural hair is a totally different colour, it catches up with you in the end...

moondog · 22/09/2011 21:51

at Pauline Prescott.

I have never had cheap chocolate.

What is this substance you speak of?

susiedaisy · 22/09/2011 22:01

Another home hair dyer here as I can't afford salon prices although it was my birthday last month and I had birthday money so I am torn between having my nails done or salon coloured hairSmileSmile

susiedaisy · 22/09/2011 22:02

What colour is cheap chocolate??

moondog · 22/09/2011 22:17

Jacqueline you ok ?

SaggyHairyArse · 22/09/2011 23:07

I was wondering too AF. Puts the Opers message into perspective though doesn't it. Am thinking of you Jacqueline.

AnyFucker · 22/09/2011 23:12

OP's thread was a bollock anyway, but yeah

ZacharyQuack · 22/09/2011 23:13

I do it deliberately. Nice n Easy Cheap Chocolate.

I pair it with Max Factor Muddy Orange Blusher and Revlon Tooth-Staining Coral lippy, my midwash bootleg jeans and Mum Boots.

You can't laugh at me, cos I'm in on the joke.

TheWisdomOfSolomum · 22/09/2011 23:38

Trillian Grin yes, it gets me into all sorts of trouble. Usually it says yes when really I mean no.

TipOfTheSlung · 22/09/2011 23:50

My hair is nearish the colour you are talking about but naturally, or was until the stress of life took its toll starting with dds birth. I'm now very grey, and only 30. I would love to be brave and leave it but everytime I see it it reminds me of all the shit of the last few years. So instead I dye it, me becaus eI can't afford anyone else to do it and even though I seem to have tried every shade of brown from every company I still seem to end up with hair in that peculiar flat shade which fades to weird orage you have been talking about.

ToothbrushThief · 23/09/2011 07:24

Jacqueline hope you are ok. You have a different perspective to many on this thread. I wish you well
