Cant find any boots<sobs>

I am struggling to find the ideal boot for winter. I want them to go with tea dresses, chunky knits, jumper dresses and leggings-you get the idea.
My criteria are-has to be black leather, either flat or low heel(love high heel boots but not practical with the shit winter forecasted). HATE online shopping-refuse to shell out good cash without trying on. So has to be high street.
Am prepared to pay up to £100 but ideally would like to spend £60 to £80. Had found a few pairs I liked then tethers told me they were mums bootsSad
Help please.

Mine are this type
www.clarks.co.uk/find/department-is-women/producttype-is-boots/subproducttype-is-kneehighboots/product-is-20348332
and the calf is not too big - which i find a problem usually...

CrispyHedgehog · 22/09/2011 19:47

thank you!!! right, fattest calf is 44cm, other one is 41cm, however in the mornings they're much smaller as I have lymphodema

Collision · 22/09/2011 19:55

Sorry - just measure mine and they are 40cm at fattest part so you might struggle getting them on!

feels-bad-for-Hedgehog

CrispyHedgehog · 22/09/2011 20:20

thought that would be the case :( although they'd probably fit in the mornings, lol

Thank you for checking tho collision xx

tethersend · 22/09/2011 20:43

Wide calf biker boots

Ditto but cheaper

For Crispy.

CrispyHedgehog · 22/09/2011 21:11

thank you tethers :o

ooh I love them both - could get one pair in black and the other in brown hides credit card

mamijacacalys · 22/09/2011 22:20

I'm new to the long boot/ dress look as was previously stuck in a jeans rut. Being a bit of a West Walian tight a**e, I didn't want to invest in expensive ones straight away so got these from M&S

www.marksandspencer.com/Limited-Collection-Fastening-Ruched-Biker/dp/B0052PS1PY?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_5&nodeId=835441031&sr=1-5&qid=1316725593&pf_rd_r=1S9SPFY7W3E9VJ3D5GH4&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=835441031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3

My calves are pretty chunky and these fit fine.
I know M&S get a hard time on here but they are good for some things and I'm now a convert to the long boot. Was going to wait until the sales to look out for leather ones but am tempted by the discounts on the Clarks ones linked above >

SixtyFootDoll · 26/09/2011 14:06

My Clarks Norley Cedar arrived today and they fit!!!

The holy grail.

my calves are 39 and 41 cm.

The outer side is like two flaps that arent sewn so there is some sapce and flexibilty I can even tuck skinny jeans in them, am so chuffed.

collision - what is the 20% mumsnet discount you used for the clarks orinoco boots? Just tried these on in the shop today and they are great but don't really want to pay £80 for them. Very.co.uk had them for £40 but not in my size so any other discount would be great!

fedupofnamechanging · 08/10/2011 15:21

Sainsbury's had some knee high leather boots and also had 25% off. Don't know if that offer is still on, but the boots were all around the £45 mark. Just bought some suede knee high ones, which might not last forever (being suede), but I only paid £34 for them.

I bought the Clarks Orinoco Jazz (and I wore them with boot cut jeans ). I can't honestly say they are the most beautiful boots I've ever seen, as my natural inclination is towards high heels, but i figure when it's pissing down with rain (live in Wales - it's bound to happen), they are a good 'basic'.

stripeybump · 08/10/2011 15:25

I got these beauties from M and S. They are so nice, I'm chuffed it's finally cold enough to wear them! If you go to a big store where they have the full range of Autograph and Limited Collection footwear there are loads of gems this year in Markies. Mine are suede but there are lots of lovely leather ones too.

fergoose · 08/10/2011 15:30

The Clarks are £65 with free delivery here

dingdong3 · 08/10/2011 21:18

I'm with tethersend on the orinoco's. I just sent them back to Very today. They are vile...frumpy and so wide at the calf, they looked like wellies on me and I'm not slim of calf - we're talking Mullingar Heifers here after years of Irish dancing...
The nail in the coffin was my DH choking on his cuppy when I strided into the kitchen in them....I asked him for an honest opinion and he said 'they're just not stylish'. I was down to the newsagents with them about 20 minutes later. He's good with stuff like that. The hunt continues...

Having said all that, if you don't care about style, the orinoco's are seriously comfy!

dingdong3 · 08/10/2011 21:19

strided....should read strode....too much red Blush

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 08/10/2011 21:23

collision I have just bought these & no definately not mumsy, look great with skinnys & skirts & sooooooo comfy,am a happy bunny with these :o

fedupofnamechanging · 08/10/2011 22:19

I must have mega chunky calves, because orinoco are close fitting tight on me.

So what is a stylish flat, knee high boot? Got to be honest, a lot of what's available at the moment all looks the same to me, unless you can afford to spend lots.

RollingInTheAisles · 08/10/2011 22:24

I like these.

fedupofnamechanging · 08/10/2011 22:29

They are nice, but way more expensive than the orinoco, which were a bargainous (is that a word?) £45.

dingdong3 · 08/10/2011 22:36

I think the hobbs elastic ones are what my DH would class as stylish. I have brown ones that I bought when I worked and had money. Have worn them to death so worth the investment. But I just don't have the cash this winter - neither myself nor DH working atm.

So, as my budget was around 50/60 max, I took a risk and bought these from ebay. Haven't arrived yet...will be gutted if they are not tight around the leg. No returns accepted!

pink4ever · 08/10/2011 22:41

I have the orrinoco jazz-agree they are not the most stylish boots but the amount of times I fell arse over tit last year I just dont care! dont get the whole welly thing though. Mine are really tight! and I never have a problem with knee high boots-just bought 2 pairs from new look this week-more glamourous ones!-and they fit me fine. Does the width of the orinocos make a difference?-mine are a d width.

fedupofnamechanging · 08/10/2011 22:41

I like those. Hope they are as good as you hope.

RollingInTheAisles · 08/10/2011 22:42

They are a bit expensive, BER4L gets them down to 87 with free shipping but still.

dingdong3 · 08/10/2011 22:44

I did wonder pink if I was sent a wide pair as I noticed on the Clark's website that they do a wide fit version and a regular fit too. When I looked on the box, it wasn't obvious but there was a small w on the label at the end of the box. Must be the case given what everyone's saying. I really don't have skinny calves...had to cut a pair of wellies once to make them fit!

RollingInTheAisles · 08/10/2011 22:44

What about the topshop eBay boots a few of us bought recently - £22!

dingdong3 · 08/10/2011 22:46

Thanks karma...will have to remember to post the verdict Smile
