This is why Boden is so expensive...

or rather how Johnnie earned himself a cool £15 million last year- according to the financial pages in today's Times.

He owns 60% of the shares and the reckoning is that equated to £15 million in dividends for him.

Profits jumped enormously- and so did prices, yes?

Now you know.

Yy Land's Ends kids looks brilliant. Also, Joules, the less rah things, my DS1 has had some great stuff from there too (in the sales natch). V good quality.

SharonGless · 17/09/2011 22:22

Lands end t shirts are shite quality IMO. I Like the hoodies. Not tried anything else so far

levantine · 17/09/2011 22:28

Are they? That's useful to know

EdithWeston · 17/09/2011 22:31

I think Lands Ends Kids is fantastic.

For adults, the swimwear is excellent, and the jeans are good, as are basic T-shirts, sweatshirts etc (basics, not exciting). The rest can be a bit of a mixed bag, though.

electra · 17/09/2011 22:34

lol @ 'less rah'

SharonGless · 17/09/2011 22:51

I was gutted about the t shirts as they had decent designs or boys, no skulls, cheeky fuming monkeys etc etc. The quality and neckline reminded me of fruit of the loom! Shorts were good and the hoodies have all washed well

kerstina · 18/09/2011 09:00

Did Johnie really say that Tethersend that has put me off Boden even more !
Always thought it was mainly overpriced and frumpy. Have found the occasional nice piece though as I do think the actually quality of the clothes is good. I would only ever by at clearance price though !

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/09/2011 10:12

I don't get the boden hate personally.

And he's made a lot of money - well fair enough - he put his house up as collateral when he started boden so took a big risk.

If you don't like it then don't buy it.

AlpinePony · 18/09/2011 11:32

Are there actually people who love every single item from a collection? Surely we all just pick & choose, a little bit from Boden, a little bit from Joules/White Company/wherever.

I like the look of the VW stuff - but some pieces make my eyes vomit.

I also don't think Boden is that expensive - OK, the leather jackets are over-priced and you can get better quality & design from Italian designers if you go direct to an upper-end department store. Not looked at the shoes tbh. I may whinge and moan about the prices but that's because I'm a tight-arse. People are bonkers if they expect everything to be at Primarni prices.

Honeydragon · 18/09/2011 11:49

I don't think its Boden hate its annoyance at its creators opinion.

We put our house as collateral for our business lots of people do, you don't deserve a medal. You consider your self bloody lucky to be able to do it.

I however don't go to the national press and dictate what women, should and should not be able to wear ...it's rude and misogynistic.

AlpinePony · 18/09/2011 11:50

"it's rude and misogynistic" - aye carumba - welcome to fashion! Wink

Honeydragon · 18/09/2011 12:25

Alpine Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/09/2011 13:13

No honey - not a medal but you do deserve the financial rewards surely that comes from taking a risk and working hard.

maxbradbury · 18/09/2011 13:23

Im 26 and most of my children clothes are from boden - but only when discount codes are available. The reason i go there is the girls clothes are 'playful, child like and colourful'
Went into Next the other day and far too much leopard print for little girls (cannot stand seeing leopard print on children)
I personally would never wear boden (too old for me). Im topshop, h&m and river island all the way but Mini boden does resell well on ebay!

bringmesunshine2009 · 18/09/2011 14:08

I am 30yo young fogie. Can find plenty in Boden to suit. It is difficult going from work wardrobe to SAHM wardrobe (says me in XL Minnie Mouse tee lovely gift from MIL - cheers). Finding something, comfy but flattering not drab in colour and accomodating to post baby boob and tum is a tall order. Trick is really good jeans I think. I would pay millions for clothes that would fulfil my criteria.

And as unpalatable as patronising Johnnie's comments are, as a mum, I do feel I lost it. Style I mean. Unsure of body, appropriateness, all the lifting and bending (risk of muffin tops, boobs popping out) and stains. Difficult not to look dishevelled. And I can normally cobble myself together relatively well.

AuldAlliance · 18/09/2011 14:18

Boden has launched in France.
Am hoping Johnnie ends up with oeuf on his mug.

ireallyagreewithyou · 18/09/2011 14:33

yummy mummy outfits?

BARF

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/09/2011 14:53

Oh I totally lost it after having children - particularly my second - took a while to get my fashion love back

polyhymnia · 18/09/2011 15:12

Going back to work did it instantly for me (though actuaaly don't think I'd ever lost my love of clothes, shoes, etc). But I only had one child and returned to full-time work after 7 months, so don't know what effect having 2 or more would have had.

Rosa · 18/09/2011 15:15

I like some Boden and some I don't. However this summer in a small animal park in Cornwall there were 3 women in the same skirt..obviously Boden ..That puts me off !
Lands End for quality I have been looking for an excuse to get a new rain/wind proof coat for the last 5 years and the LE one keeps holing up strong !!
