I have never worn make up! Wouldnt have a clue what to buy or what to do with it - but want to start wearing it - any recommendadtions?

Never worn shoes with a heel, only wear trainers or flat boots - can you learn to wear heels? I always fall over!

What do i do with my hair? Its waist lenght and chestnut colour and very thick but also very frizzy and doesnt react to straighteners well (its wavy at the bottom) How should i have it? (it hasnt been cut for yrs )

What should a 22 year old be wearing? I want to look more my age but havent a clue where to start!

I need an mn makeover!

No allergies I have greeny/brown eyes and dark hair so what colours go with that? (skin is yukky pale, makes me look ill grrr)

What should i ask the hair dresser to do? Do people still get there hair layered??? or is that totally unfashionable?

I am soooo bored of wearing the same old jeans and t-shirts every day and now i have a decent figure i want to wear nicer clothes! Have really got to do something with my nails too!

I am off shopping to act on all this advice later!

mazzystar · 12/12/2005 09:32

go to top shop
(as you are only 22)

peckarollover · 12/12/2005 09:32

tamba im sorry but when i read your post thoughgt must be in forties!!

Get your hair CHOPPED maybe some subtle highlights

There is a huge range of heels in between flats and killer heels there will be something you can walk in ! Doesnt have to be straight to stilletoes

What do you wear at the moment?

As for make up

Start of with some tinted moisturiser, mascara, lipgloss and some really good none orange bronzer. Just a little on your cheeks and maybe swoosh over your forehead, chin and nose. Start of with next to nothing and build up with make up. Even with the few things above you will be DRAMATICALLY different!

I want to the hair dressers about 18 months ago as i was going out, i just had it styled, she blow dried my hair with my head upside down and i came out looking like i had an afro and people in the street laughed at me - it was mortifying

Do you live somewhere with big department stores? I BEG you to go to a benefit counter and get them to apply a natural makeover to you - you will be over the moon. Promise.

TheFish · 12/12/2005 09:33

tamba maybe a personnel shopper in a dept. store could help you out? I don't think you need to spend loads, they are supposed to help even if your not loaded . Your colouring sounds really nice, wear whatever your comfortable in and don't feel you need to change dramatically cos you sound ok to me!

biglipskissinunderthemistletoe · 12/12/2005 09:34

you can wear 2inches heel shoes/boots as ive worned my cowboy boots to death as sssoooooo comfy!

peckarollover · 12/12/2005 09:35

yes or MAC as per beetys suggestion.

Get yourself to a cheap young shop so you can do some experimenting with fashion without spending fortune until you work out what it is that suits you.

Start with some accessories - nice belt, jewellery, hanbags to start and liven up what you do already have.

What kind of jeans are you wearing now? You should have at least one pair (or even 10!!) of great jeans. They neednt be dull.

Take a trip to Topshop with a wad of cash and grab one of their style advsors.

They'll throw you in the fitting rooms and bring the clobber to you.

Deffo go to the hairdressers but make sure you ask for a consulation before you have anything done.
I think you could maybe have it coloured a reddy/copper colour if you have green/brown eyes.
As for the wavy/frizzyness, invest in some good straightners that get a high temp on them. I have wavy frizzy hair and I use a serum on it after I wash to tame it. John Frieda's stuff is good.

Enideepmidwinter · 12/12/2005 09:35

tamba your post is shocking as you are only 22

get it together girl!

Go to the most expensive hairdresser you can afford and tell them you have no idea what to do with your hair. Listen to what they say. A good layered cut and some highlights is the way to go.

Then go to the make up counter as Beety suggests and get a make over BUY STUFF afterwards.

Of course you can learn to wear heels. Go to French Connection and buy some groovy but not too way out clothes and shoes.

Do girls mothers not teach them this stuff anymore?

tamba · 12/12/2005 09:35

I mostly wear atm, jeans, trainers and a gap sweater Hair just pulled back in a ponytail and thats it! I feel 40!!!

when you say chopped do you mean short?? I dontmind whether its long or short as long as its easy to manage. Maybe i should go for a complete change!

don't bother with straightening. i've got similar hair (but not chestnut). It's fighting a losing battle. You'll waste hours blow drying it straight. Concentrate on getting it to look nice non-frizzy but wavy.

A medium wide heel is easy to walk on (and actually better for you back than flats). Get yourself a nice pair of knee high boots with a wide heel (not stiletto style!) for winter.

BudaBabeInAManger · 12/12/2005 09:37

So go to a diff hairdresser!! Where do you live? Have you any friends whose hair you like - ask them who they go to.

For general day-time I use the Tesco Skin Wisdom Tinted moisturiser - I think it's called "Idealist" - not too heavy and leaves a lovely sheen on skin. Sometimes I add a little bit of foundation to it for a BIT more coverage - but still not too heavy.

Mascara, tinted lip gloss and you are away.
