Marks and Spencer have invented a skirt version of jeggings - has anyone seen?

It's wrong, right?

I mean, it's from marks. It has an elasticated waist. But I'm kind of seeing where they're coming from.

Not tried one on.

Has anyone got one?

I used to wear a skirt like that 20 yrs ago when I was at high school.

Fuzzled · 06/09/2011 20:19

Skegging?

Only to be worn on holiday to Skegness?! Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/09/2011 20:20

Alouise - I so remember that scrunchy fabric - I had a white top in that material from chelsea girl - god, I loved that top!

I'm an apple and like short straight skirts that sit on the hips ideally - just got a nice cord one from gap here

Sidge · 06/09/2011 20:25

Ooh I had a black stretchy skirt like that in 1988.

I used to wear it with my thick black tights, a black polo neck sweater and my black DM boots.

I haven't got the legs for it now. I Don't Do skirts.

MaryJane40 · 06/09/2011 20:26

I bought this in black earlier this year and wear it with the elastic tucked in, it's too long otherwise (I'm 5'5).
And only with opaque tights and a top that covers the waistband. Yes it's rather 80s - that's why I like it Grin

RandomMess · 06/09/2011 20:29

I'm an apple shape and tend to wear very short slightly A-line skirts or with pleats in and they don't have a waistband so the sit low sort of hipsterish but it works?

My legs are my best assets though Grin

ruletheworld · 06/09/2011 20:36

Random and mrscampbell - that is exactly the shape of the skirts I currently wear.

I DO find they spin though. This is a recent, post c-section phenomenon though as I can't wear them really low without the overhang tummy sticking out over the top.

I'm sensing the jeggig skirt won't fix this though. Anyone know the name of a good plastic surgeon? Grin

OP posts:
RandomMess · 06/09/2011 20:39

There is a lot trial and error they need to come high enough up to squish the overhang Grin

I had 4 large babies, I too need a plastic surgeon Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/09/2011 20:41

I used to have one of those in about 1988 that I wore with a huuuuuuuuge red and black striped Dennis the Menace jumper and DMs!

I wouldn't wear it now but I think my tall, skinny dd1 would look ace in it.

ruletheworld · 06/09/2011 20:43

Ranommess - I SO know what you mean.

Gap normally come up trumps shapewise for me, but I find the fabrics so thick that I sometimes find the waistbands uncofmortable.

Four babies - respect to you. I had a 9 pound 11er and a (relatively teeny) 7 pounds 14er and the pouch is fully in evidence.

Like you though, I have good legs too. There has to be some recompense!

TheCrackFox · 06/09/2011 20:45

Oh, yes had to be worn with DMs and baggyish top.

I lurved my DMs. They can come back into fashion any time.

RandomMess · 06/09/2011 20:49

ruletheworld my first was titchy 7lb6oz then the shocker of 10lb6oz have been exercising like crazy and it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

The other skill is finding tops of the correct length and enough gathering or something in the front.

I'm only 5' which makes the whole thing more difficult as choice is much more limited. All I can say is that my skirts are generally short and I wear dance style "shorts" underneath for modesty Grin

ruletheworld · 06/09/2011 20:53

Randommess- correct length tops is a whole other topic! Don't get me started. If I can manage to find the, long enough they are always tight fitting! I want a long length top that doesn't cling and isn't baggy, is it too much to ask???!!

I'm 5 ft 6 which can be a bad thing in that the short skirts that look nice on me look too short! I put em away til winter then wear em with long boots and tights or leggings. Would love to wear them the rest of the year!

OP posts:
talkingnonsense · 06/09/2011 20:56

Where do you get dance shorts random? Sound like a v good idea.

RandomMess · 06/09/2011 20:56

I also wear erm enhanced bras to hide my tummy and have some vague cleavage type affect.

Most tops are way to long on me and emphasise my bump and most skirts/dresses are knee length Confused

TracyK · 06/09/2011 20:58

I bought this skirt at the weekend - it is v comfy and v flattering on - though I am now a bit worried it will ride up! It is shorter on me than on the model and I intend to wear it with thick tights and top to hide the waistband. But tbh the top doesn't have to be too long - whatever one I had on at the time covered it fine.

RandomMess · 06/09/2011 21:04

have a look on ebay but most of mine are girls boxer knickers from H&M Blush

www.hm.com/gb/product/93120?article=93120-A

most of mine are black, grey or white though age 14+

LydiaWickham · 06/09/2011 21:06

Dear lord - now ladies, listen - above the knee denim skirts on anyone above the age of 18 and above a size 6 look cheap.

A fake denim skirt is not going to be upping the classy stakes.

I would assume anyone wearing this would wear their hair in a Croydon Face-lift style, own a considerable amount of gold jewellery and be known to the local police station.

Just no. Step away now.

talkingnonsense · 06/09/2011 21:40

Random you are clearly tiny! I am size 14, not age14 Grin

RandomMess · 06/09/2011 21:42

LOL I'm only 5' the height of most 12 year olds, I'm actually almost overweight but being apple shaped still have non-existant hips...

Sidge · 06/09/2011 21:45

LOL at Random - I'm only 5 foot 1 and my work trousers are age 13 school trousers!

I tend not to advertise that fact Blush

TracyK · 07/09/2011 07:26

Lydia - it doesn't actually LOOK like denim - just kind of stretchy, black material (but stiff like denim rather than soft cotton iykwim).

Al0uiseG · 07/09/2011 07:30

Random I wear those knickers too! I'm no waif and I'm 5ft 5 but my hips just don't curve as a laydees should. Girls clothes seem to be cut bigger and bigger and I often find an aged 16 skirt is better than an adult one for my apple shape.

Balconygarden · 07/09/2011 07:37

I've seen this skirt in M&S, and have been tempted. I had loads of these type skirts in the 80's, early 90's. They were great if you have no hips and a flat bum (apple shaped) as they don't dig in at the waist, or fall down. I think I'll have to consider what the wear with it 'though, as I don't want to look like my teen self (Doc Martin boots/stripey tights/big baggy jumper/birds nest hair!).
