Go to Boots, get some Number 7.

sloggies · 05/09/2011 17:26

What skin type have you got, oily, dry, combination?

sloggies · 05/09/2011 17:28

Also, how much were you thinking of spending?

carri I am a third generation Nivea junkie and the most basic of basic Nivea is gorgeous and gets flung in the trolley at Tesco.
you are lucky that your skin hasn't felt that crinkly feeling that I have every day before I put moisturiser on (ancient)

you really don't need to spend £150 on some posh stuff, it is there just to keep water in your skin.

plus...don't smoke!
My SIL spends £0000 of pounds on cosmetics and treatments and is still MUCH wrinklier (same age, she smokes, I don't)

MrsLadywoman · 05/09/2011 17:40

Go for something cheap and basic. Moisturisers are basically all the same ingredients, just in different quantities with some scent thrown in. They all do exactly the same thing, it just depends on which texture and thickness you like. The really pricey ones are a con. They say they have some magic ingredient but there will only be a minuscule trace of it. So don't waste your money.

LawrieMarlow · 05/09/2011 17:42

I am (very) nearly 36 and very rarely wear moisturiser. Skin still ok but maybe it will suddenly all fall off.

Meglet · 05/09/2011 17:44

Do they still hand out freebies on beauty counters these days? I used to like Clarins before I had DC's (ie: when I had money).

No.7 is good stuff. I use perform & protect serum and the cream when it's on offer and use a mixture of Lush Shangri La and vaseline the rest of the time. It took years to find the right mix for me (am 37).

NorksAreMessy · 05/09/2011 17:44

yes lawrie you see that quite often. well dressed woman walking down the street and all of a sudden her face falls off. all because of under-moisturising.

think on!

Fuzzled · 05/09/2011 17:45

I use Oil of Olay with the SPF in it.
T'is brill Wink

Insomnia11 · 05/09/2011 17:50

I started wearing moisturiser at 13 as my skin felt uncomfortable without it.

rookiemater · 05/09/2011 17:51

Go for the cheapest thing you can find with SPF, thats the important thing as that will help to stop the aging process.

Becaroooo · 05/09/2011 17:53

Body Shop vitamin e moisturiser is pretty good and smells divine

PuppyMonkey · 05/09/2011 17:58

I just can't imagine getting up in the morning and NOT putting some sort of moisturiser on. It makes your skin feel sooooo good. Also, do you wear make up without moisturising first? How does THAT work?

LawrieMarlow · 05/09/2011 18:06

I very very rarely wear makeup.

lucykate · 05/09/2011 18:08

i use the cheapo original nivea, the one in the blue pot, it's all i've ever used.

hmc · 05/09/2011 18:12

I use Oil of olay with SPF too - like one of the other posters. Moisturised and supple skin is key to minimising the affects of ageing....you really must get on with it - oh and use body lotion after a bath / shower too (I have only just started doing the latter at 43!)

PuppyMonkey · 05/09/2011 18:15

I mean, even my brother moisturises in the morningGrin

hmc · 05/09/2011 18:18

I use quite a dense heavy 'night' cream now too!

NorksAreMessy · 05/09/2011 18:21

me too, lucykate that is why we look sooooo gorgeous!

Bunbaker · 05/09/2011 18:27

I have used moisturiser since I was 15. It has paid dividends as I am now 52 and look much younger. I always wear moisturiser with SPF15.

You aren't doing your skin any favours by not protecting it. I agree with the comments about not needing to spend £££ - it really isn't necessary unless you have very sensitive skin. Over the years I have used Body Shop, Virgin Vie, Boots, Olay, l'Oreal and countless others and have been told by a beautician that my skin is in excellent condition.

FreeButtonBee · 05/09/2011 18:42

another one who uses moisturiser with spf15 every day. I swear by clarins multi active day lotion (and the cream version in the depths of winter). It's £££ but I have been using it for 5 years now and can't imagine changing. It just works on my skin. PReviously used olay but olay seem to have gone mad (too many diffusion lines for my taste!) lately so can't compare products.

Northernlurkerr · 05/09/2011 18:44

I'm 34 and don't use moisturiser or make up. I am now convinced my skin is falling off......

hmc · 05/09/2011 18:57

It probably is Northern! Sort it out!

Deesus · 05/09/2011 18:59

Another vote here for original cheapo nivea in the blue pot! Smile
