I'm a size 14, big boobs, great waist and ok arse, massive thighs! I am so bored of wearing jeans. I bought myself some brown chino trousers today but I suspect they are supposed to be slim fitting but fit me like slightly loose leggings. Is that ok? What do other women with fat legs wear?

The trousers were These

P.s. Style is not my forté so pleas be gentle with me.

Sorry not sticking to original question. Have never been very successful finding decent trousers. Awaiting opening of Thighs are Us.

WorzselMummage · 04/09/2011 14:49

I've never owned anything from Gap, I'll have to take a look, Thanks nomorefrizz

A big jumper?

WorzselMummage · 04/09/2011 15:17

I wear lots of big jumpers, lot of big boots too.. ugg rip offs are my friend.

Slim fitting knee highs make me look like ridiculous, if i manage to find them to fit, which is very rare.

Pineapple (from Debenhams) stretch pants. They have a high Lycra content and a nice high waistband. Are available in bootcut and straight leg. Cost around £19.99 or £16.00 in the sale!

AnneinEdinburgh · 04/09/2011 16:33

I used to love Boden wide legged jeans, they fitted on the waist and my thunder thighs, but now they have stopped making them :-(

I am in some wide legged dark blue ones from M&Co, ok but not the same!

MirandaGoshawk · 04/09/2011 18:51

I too have always avoided slim/skinny fit and live in Boyfreind jeans. However, yesterday I made my first-ever purchase from Zara - straight-legged (as in not skinny, not flared either) black chinos. They are good quality and quite firm material so will hold you in like jeans but are quite smart. They are £19.99 Smile and I am thrilled with them! They do gape a tiny bit at the waist but fine with a belt.

ledkr · 04/09/2011 19:07

Do gap curvy go up to a 16? Ive never been that keen on the bootleg either, and i find your shoe choice very limited to boots with them.
I have recently been trying to get used to my new post baby fat arse and tummy figure and have found a nice pair in oasis, they are bootleg but they go in and out ihn the right place. I also like the skinnys with a long top and boots or stiilettoes,i find them very flattering at the mo.
Has anyobne ever tried hudson jeans?

duckyfuzz · 04/09/2011 19:45

gap curvy go up to a US 16 which I think is a UK 20, UK16 would be US 12

pettyprudence · 04/09/2011 20:31

Slightly off topic but as sainbos seem to be coming up good for the chunky thigh, does anyone know if they have any straight/skinny jeans in at the moment?

niminypiminy · 04/09/2011 22:00

Just coming back with a link to some Oxford bags. ££ I know and most of the stuff on this site is frightful but they do excellent sales and are good quality.

My most flattering current trousers are tapered and this shape.

As I say I find bootcuts tend to look like this on me. However, if you're after any kind of flare (termed here 'modern bootcut') then Gap may be your friend.

ledkr · 04/09/2011 22:27

sainsburys have straights at the mo,they didnt look right on me,i prefer the vintage look.
I love those gap curvey are they flattering? Are they cut generously and are they stretch?

TracyK · 05/09/2011 07:47

I got www.marksandspencer.com/Zip-Pockets-Stretch-Cigarette-Trousers/dp/B003VFRN0G?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_36&nodeId=42967030&sr=1-36&qid=1315205137 from M&S.
They are quite a firm material and hold you in all over (though not sure how long this will last!)
They would lengthen legs with a pair of slim wedge black boots tucked up underneath them (so no ankle showing).

Insomnia11 · 05/09/2011 10:33

I am chunky of leg and wear leggings/jeggings and a dress quite a lot. With boots in winter. I'm not short though so I think that helps. Other than that I wear wide leg trousers with pumps. I think you just have to wear things that fit properly and think about the right length for the top half- generally with wide leg trousers I wear fitted tops and with fitted trousers wear longer tops/dresses.

For ages I used to worry about my legs - getting called thunder thighs at school didn't help, but when I got down to under nine stone, measured 34-25-35 and still didn't have model like skinny legs I thought it was time to starting accepting them as they are...

hopenglory · 05/09/2011 11:43

I am watching this thread with great interest.

I have inherited a pair of 'Not Your Daughters Jeans' which are quite frankly, a miracle in the world of jeans. Expensive but worth keeping your eyes open for them on eBay and the like. www.nydj.com/

TheEarlOfDoncaster1963 · 05/09/2011 14:01

I'm a bootleg fan, I'm afraid - being a shortarse as well, I think they make me look (slightly) taller. One day soon I will look totally insane, like an old lady wearing flares in 1988, but I REFUSE to wear skinny-fit trousers!

herbaceous · 05/09/2011 14:36

I am a martyr to my legs, and second the thumbs ups for Sainsbos. But I tried some of their skinny jeans on the other day and looked farkin awful. They were huge in the waist, and I looked like a parsnip.

But today I bought some straight jeans from New Look. Avoids the parsnip effect, while looking reasonably 'on trend', fit in the waist, and a mere £20.

hopenglory · 05/09/2011 15:44

Oh, and I don't care what anybody says - I couldn't possibly wear leggings. I would look like I had two badly stuffed sausages for legs

SinicalSal · 05/09/2011 16:39

do new Look jeans last well?
I got a pair a few years ago and never since, maybe they've improved? I only have a New Look budget so I hope so.

HouseOfBamboo · 05/09/2011 16:44

Oh a Thighs R Us shop would be great!

Life would be a lot simpler if clothes shops would sort stuff by body shape.

Clockface · 05/09/2011 18:02

I'm another Gap curvy jeans fan. I'm a size 14 and definitely pear shaped! My plan for the winter is to wear more mid-length skirt and boot combos. I've got some really nice black Oxford bag style trousers too which are good for my legs, and some v. 70s brown flared cords which I love (don't care if they aren't fashionable!) I've also realised that a bit of heel seems to offset the generous thigh! Smile

Sleepyspaniel · 05/09/2011 20:14

Here's some tips: 1) Never wear trousers unless you have to. However, if you must wear trousers and/or jeans then the thinnest denim you can find is your best bet. Don't buy anything with stretch in it because your legs will look like stuffed sausages and the shape of the jeans are defined by your shape, whereas, well shaped non stretch jeans will give you a more streamlined, smoother silhouette as your thighs are "moulded" into shape Grin.

Definitely no stiff, thick, denim as it adds inches to chunky legs. I have some soft, thin denim jeans which are snug around the waist and bottom, skim over the thighs and end in a wider leg. They're not bootleg or wide leg, just somewhere in between. You want jeans/trousers that don't cling to your thighs as a bit of loose fabric around the thigh gives the impression of slimmer legs.

Oh, and - always dress to suit your shape not whats in fashion currently. I guarantee you will look more trendy/stylish if you buy bootlegs (if that's what suits) and add a trendy top. Nobody will think "oh bootlegs, not v trendy" they will only notice the overall effect ie "nice look" not "you shouldn't have done tapered legs, love.."

Mandy2003 · 05/09/2011 20:18

Evans is supposed to be sorting by body shape from the late Autumn. OK if you're over size 14 Grin

I have bought some New Look straight jeans, but I suffer from Fibromyalgia and they are just too stiff to wear without causing agony. Does anyone have any ideas how I could soften them up without shrinking them?

UKSky · 05/09/2011 22:22

I've bought a couple of pairs of New Look jeans from their tall department. They lasted about 6 months but with a lot of wear. However, I do find that they are rather low cut and have to hold in my post baby tum or I get a muffin top and don't even think about bending over in them.............unless you're a female builder Smile

Just going to have to dig a bit deeper and go back to Long Tall Sally.

AlwaysTimeForWine · 06/09/2011 09:32

I am tall at 5ft 9", and am quite curvy, with a smaller waist but my thighs are quite chunky. I always struggle with trousers; if they fit on the thighs they are too big round the waist. If they fit on the waist I can't get them over my thighs!!

I bought these recently and they are great. My husband keeps telling me that my bum looks lovely! People always say that I look good when wearing them which is very nice! www.gap.eu/browse/product.do?cid=58809&vid=1&pid=846475

I personally would NEVER EVER go for a slim fit skinny trousers if you have chunky thighs. It really does just draw attention to your thighs. You need to balance it out with some width at the bottom.

I also find that the "boyfriend" style is very forgiving. More in a slouchy/weekend way rather than dressy. These have been great and very comfy and look good; www.next.co.uk/x484254s2#746126x48 They smooth out the line of your leg.
