Isn't it about time those hideous leggings sloped back to the 80's were they belong?!!!!

I've never been a fan, and think it's high time this awful trend died a death! Is anyone else sick to death with shops awash with leggings and tunic style tops/dresses?!!!

So pleased I'm not the only one Ephiny and MissJezebel Grin

Oh god yes, ski pants with those awful stirrups!!!!

Yes it certainly seems that way, the shops are awash with shapeless clothes! Very sad indeed!

I like leggings, they have to be fairly thick though, not the nearly see through ones and worn with a top that covers your bum, so the tunic type thing you hate sounds fine by me.
I like pretending to be the principal boy.

Atropos · 02/09/2011 16:04

Leggings should not be worn by anyone over the age of eight.

2rebecca · 02/09/2011 16:08

Not sure I'd put them on anyone under 8. My daughter wore thick tights or trousers when under 8, she only got into leggings as a teenager.

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 02/09/2011 16:53

I'm going to jump in an defend ski pants because.... I am wearing them today. And i like them. They are like skinny trousers and stretchy and the bottoms are safely hidden under my boots, my bum is hidden under my too short to be decent without something under it dress, and they don't need ironed.

HouseOfBamboo · 02/09/2011 17:06

I don't have a problem with leggings. I LOVE them. I do have a problem with the lack of nice things to wear with them though. Fed up to the back teeth of bloody patterned tunic tops.

I agree with whoever said that they tend to look better on chunky legs than sparrow ones (as long as bum covering rules are followed). But with the right clothes most people can wear them I reckon.

And they are brilliant for toddlers and small girls - a LOT easier than evil tights and great with pinafore-style dresses.

MelinaM · 03/09/2011 08:23

I couldn't agree more Atropos Grin

Full length, non see through good quality leggings are a fabulous thing. They should never be worn with anything that doesn't come well below thigh length and preferable longer Grin
It's not leggings per se, it's to do with how they are styled.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 03/09/2011 08:41

I love leggings, but it is essential to get good quality ones.

For anyone looking, Pure have some in their autumn 25% off which are perfect length on me at 5'2".

Melina if you can afford lots of beautifully cut trousers them you clearly have more money to spend on clothes than the majority. Wink

MissJezebelTallulah · 03/09/2011 10:44

Leggings are monstrous, they are an incredibly shit piece of clothing, end of story!!! Grin

I'll say it again, they are a lazy way of dressing... "I can't be bothered, so I put leggings on".

Good quality trousers don't have to cost a fortune, again it seems to be that they are worn because they are cheap. What an awful state of affairs!

sheepgomeep · 03/09/2011 10:51

no I love them.. only thing that properly fits my weird body shape and is comfortable. after two c sections and a still sore scar its the only thing that doesnt pinch and rub

I love them I'm afraid

sheepgomeep · 03/09/2011 10:55

good quality trousers DO cost a lot of money I find, legging cost what 6 pounds upwards and decent trousers your looking at what £25 pounds at least these days for just one pair.

I have 4 dc, and always struggling to make ends meet so leggings are a godsend to me. I do wear a lot of trackies too but thats another story!

lucky for you, if you can afford to dress well. Lots of us can't. Its not a matter of being lazy, more dressing to what you can afford or prefer

sjuperwolef · 03/09/2011 13:54

i have one pair of black leggings and 1 pair of maternity jeggings. i love them. i actually feel more 'dressy' in them because the tops i choose to wear with them, i do it for the style i can make rather than the lazy comfort option.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 03/09/2011 14:43

They are not a lazy option for me. Lazy is jeans.

readinginsteadnow · 03/09/2011 14:46

I love leggings! But they are the one thing I splash out on dearer ones; I get M&S £9.50, as any cheaper ones do go very transparent.

mippy · 03/09/2011 19:33

I would happily buy some good trousers if i could find a pair designed for 10in hip-waist difference, oh, and with a leg length long enough as well. But I can't. So I live in jeans and dresses, because dresses suit my figure better, and when it gets cold I want to put something on to keep my legs warmer.

MissJezebelTallulah, they're a piece of fricking clothing. Stop getting overexcited.

Housewife2010 · 04/09/2011 22:42

Common Common Common

arabicabean · 04/09/2011 22:56

Pure cashmere leggings are heavenly!
I wear with dresses and boots.

YouDoTheMath · 04/09/2011 22:57

Agree Sheep and Alibabaa.

Don't understand why people are so concerned with what others are wearing. If a trend isn't for me, it doesn't tend to enter my radar.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/09/2011 23:17

Housewife - only common if worn see through and with too short a top. Anything can look common if worn badly.

arabica - exactly.

nikkinoonoo · 05/09/2011 11:48

No they are a wardrobe essential! I just hate it when people wear them with a short t-shirt and I can see there arse dimples! Haha! Also hate the white leggings! Yuck! X

tinkbig · 05/09/2011 12:47

i wear leggings all the time so comfortable
i tried to buy jeans dont fit

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 05/09/2011 12:53

I have just bought a new pair, some lovely navy ones. :)

OctonautsOnRepeat · 05/09/2011 13:21

I need some tops to go with mine, but I am very tall with a long torso.

PattySimcox · 05/09/2011 15:40

The only problem with leggings (apart from the showing of fanjo / arse issue already mentioned) is that they are so comfy that they don't tell you when you have put on a lot of weight in the same way that the waistband of a pair of jeans do.
