what is the best nail polish?

friend swears by chanel... i dislike the price.

what can i buy that won't chip off within a day or 2???

Essie is good, Leighton Denny and also Maybelline.
Opi and Nails Inc always chip but as another poster says, Nails Inc caviar top coat is brilliant!

Anything lasts better with Seche Vite on top - I've had some cheapie colours from Tesco that have stayed chipless for ages, thanks to its magical sealing powers.

OPI is my favourite brand, but Boots No7 can be great (in some shades, and then useless in others).

Chanel, Essie or Rimmel

so Essie has quite a few votes, and is cheaper, maybe I'll go for that

Revlon are quite good for a relatively cheapo brand and they do a couple of nice 'old lady pink' shades.

Inspired by this thread today I have finally done my nails. Barielle in "belly dance"

OPI plus Seche Vite is my winning combo and I always get them from Beverly Beaute, never had any problems

OPI quality is great. The brushes are pro-wide so harder to make mistakes (although a well-practised steady hand always helps!) and the range of colours is endless.

As other posters have said, anything lasts longer with a good top coat and Seche Vite is wonderful. A good base coat really helps too. OPI is good (though not as long lasting as some), Lancome and Chanel good, Dior rubbish, Nail Inc good, Leighton Denny not so good. But my favourites for texture and stayability are China Glass and Models Own which you can find in Boots - great shades, £5 a bottle and lasts for 2 weeks (on everyone I know!)

Definitely rimmell here- have tried expensive brands like clinique and estee and there is no difference in quality that i can see, only the brand name.

I've just bought a couple of Leighton Denny and love them. I also like Rimmel pro and Barry M.

Everyone P L E A S E try a shellac manicure just once and see how amazing it is!! I am currently typing away on nails that were painted 10 days!!! ago!!! Honestly im a Shellac addict - I feel a bit like a nutter here and wanting to spread the word but it really does last 10 - 14 days.

Its v v pricey most places about £20 but the lady I go to does it for £6 so shopping around a good idea. There is a promo video on You tube which seems too good to be true but its actually factual and not over egged (even though it looks it).

Right the Shellac nutter is going now to spread the word further..... I dont work for them by the way!! :) :)

I'm going for Shellac before my jollies! Cannot wait.

But don't you have to put your hands under a UV lamp for Shellac and doesn't that bugger up your nails?

Well, I have only seen my friends and it was beautiful. All shiny and perfect like the nails I crave.
Thought it would be great for the beach as normal polish is exfoliated off!
Now to decide the colour!

Opi are lovely colours. Leighton Denny are good quality but colours look cheap I think. Chanel always good but they do stain.

Ken - french manicure to compliment your tan - but this i find lasts the least I only get 7 days out of french. I love fararri red and also the funky coral colour.

My nails are fine and ive been having them for 6 mths but I suppose its a bit like not knowing what colour your hair is anymore - Im that addicted I havnt had one day without it on my nails only see my nails for the 10 mins when its soaked off!

The coral one looks great. My friend has Ferrari red which is such a nice cherry colour. I will let you know what I pick!

its brilliant

really does dry in 40 seconds and lasts for days. and is cheap.
