What do you wear of you don't wear jeans?

I have a feeling a there similar to this may have been on here before, so apologies if it has.

So I'm looking for an alternative to jeans, mainly because I wear the same pair ALL the time, they're losing their shape, and I want to feel a bit better presented. Unfortunately I don't have long, lean legs - I'm not fat, just not tall and skinny!

in winter, if not in jeans I will be in longish skirts that I can wear with tights and boots. When I was thinner I had a selection of non-jeans trousers that I used to wear for work - but I am now a) not working and b) too fat for those, so just the skirts or jeans then.

In summer I spend most of my time in 3/4 length linen trousers, or longish shorts. Only wear skirts to parties.

droves · 23/08/2011 14:41

Pagwatch ... you sound very ladylike !

thick tights and skirts , or linen trousers , but i have to have jeans ....love them have about 23 pairs now. Grin.

Favorite ones are high waisted skinny ones from next.GO WITH EVERYTHING!

Pagwatch · 23/08/2011 14:52

Yes yes. Very ladylike. Not really just short of leg and wide of arse - oh no. Ladylike. Like honeydragon with her kerchief

Honeydragon · 23/08/2011 14:55

Pag I've had years of pisstaking from friends about my Hankies, till they procreate then they go Envy.

They also prevent tissue in washing machine mishaps too Grin

But I like being called a ladeeee

I like the banana rep trousers but I'm too deficient in the leg length to wear them.

minxofmancunia · 23/08/2011 14:59

My friend has some houlihans and they're definitely NOT worth the money. Look cheap, not a great fit and look a bit um....chavvy tbh.

I tried a few different pairs of J Brand things in in Selfridges and wasn't impressed.

best designer jeans are Sass and Bide or 7 for All mankind IMO.

OP I'm sick to death of wearing jeans all the time, stuck in a total style rut so am watching with interest.

JIRkids · 23/08/2011 15:02

I know what you mean. All my jeans are too tight and uncomfortable. I wear lots of long tops or jumpers/ dresses/ tunics with leggings which is much more comfy. Have also bought some skinny jeans which are quite stretchy (therefore comfortable!) and wear these with something long. I either wear pumps, flip flops or boots with them depending on weather and type of top. I am not really keen on anything that is tight at the waist at the moment but after my diet I might think again!!!

YouDoTheMath · 23/08/2011 15:43

Blimey - I posted this this morning, went off to do some random housie stuff and came back to 32 comments! Thanks so much, you lot!

I'm thinking leggings at the moment. They look feminine, plus I like long tops/tunics. I like leggings with flat, glitzy summer sandals (like the ones you get in Accessorize) and also in winter with boots, so they seem fairly versatile.

Do you think I'd get away with leggings? I'm size 12 - 14 and about 5 ft 6.

And where do you get your tops/tunics?

Balconygarden · 23/08/2011 15:47

I hate jeans. I wear dresses, tunics and leggings, combat trousers, the odd skirt, and wide legged trousers for work.
Pagwatch - I like your style!

minxofmancunia · 23/08/2011 15:52

Of course you can wear leggings...sounds like you have the ideal figure for them.

TBH anyone can wear them as long as they don't commit the cardinal vomit inducing sin of wearing only waist length tops with them.....a la the majority of the teenage population in Manchester City centre on a saturday (who're a lot bigger than you OP) and woman in Sheffield rapk yesterday who was wearing a wiast length top and very very thin leggings, made even more so by her bulbous bottom. YUCK put it away, what kind of exhibitionism is this!!

Sorry bit a a rant there. Looknig for ideas for stripy tunics myself

poppydog2 · 23/08/2011 17:36

Tunic dresses or knitted dresses....preferably a bit short with boots!!! But aiming for the cropped trouser look this year if it is flattering!!!

CointreauVersial · 23/08/2011 17:40

I've met Pag and she is indeed very ladylike.

Can't handle her drink, though. Wink

Pagwatch · 24/08/2011 15:26
Grin
droves · 24/08/2011 16:34

TrompetteMilitaire · 24/08/2011 16:37

Skirts, leggings, tunics, knitted dresses. I am small and slender, so can't do long, floaty things. I don't possess any jeans. I do have one pair of cords, used only when working with toddlers. I just don't like trousers at all.

YouDoTheMath · 24/08/2011 16:51

Feeling very excited about my first pair of leggings now (although am peeved with two local branches of Tesco - they have every colour under the sun except black, so have ordered some from good old ASOS).

When I get paid I will go tunic hunting.

OP posts:
TrompetteMilitaire · 24/08/2011 17:44

M&S are good for leggings. Boring but true.

White Stuff are good for tunics, even though saying so will make me a social outcast on MN.

kingprawntikka · 25/08/2011 10:04

White Stuff do nice leggings too... not too thin.

Dorothyredboots · 25/08/2011 10:17

I have sworn against jeans as they are not a good colour for me (on the Springs thread). I found some Escada trousers at weekend in local designer outlet. Come in lovely colours, stretchy and v comfortable. Jeans sort of shape but much smarter and, in my opinion, much more stylish than the 'no-brainer' leggings. £££s but worth every one.

catswipe · 25/08/2011 10:42

I hate jeans. Rarely have I seen a pair that actually flatter the person. I wear dresses and boots with cropped cardigans or cord maxi skirts cut on a slight A line. I like wide leg trousers. Ballet pumps. Very simple lines. Jeans are fussy to me and boringly predictable.

georgie22 · 25/08/2011 16:04

For those who have suggested Houlihans what sort of footwear would you wear with them for A/W?

fannybanjo · 25/08/2011 16:10

Have to laugh at chav comment re Houlihans. I have images of "chavs" wearing Primark not £245 trousers but hey ho, I'll keep my Daily Mail judgemental thoughts to myself.... Hmm

fannybanjo · 25/08/2011 16:12

To answer OP - I love jeans but Topshop do lovely fine cords in Jamie jeans style. Really nice. Re Houlihans I wear my chav kecks with ballet pumps, boots, flat sandals and simple t-shirt.

fannybanjo · 25/08/2011 16:13

However not sandals, boots and pumps all at once Grin

Quenelle · 25/08/2011 16:24

I am wearing a White Stuff tunic today [defiant]

With jeans though.

I don't think the houlihans are chavvy, but they can't suit many women can they?
