Because moonlight gives you a nice glow and doesn't show up your wrinkles or grey hair.

Christmas shopping does sound a bit mental, but as DH and I between us have 17 neices and nephews, it's never too early to start. I tend to grab things when I see them then forget I already bought something for the child in question and end up with a load of stuff and no-one to gift it to.

Ignore my rubbish about being child-free that day - I have another night out in October to which I was referring. Honestly, so many nights out I don't know whether I'm coming or going (OK, OK, those are the only two events in my diary this side of Christmas).

CointreauVersial · 19/09/2011 13:24

RSJ sounds nice too, but we should book somewhere soon, as it is not long.

Who's good at making decisions round here?

herbaceous · 19/09/2011 13:39

Ooh yes, BTM. I was thinking 'bar with food attached' is the best option, clean forgetting that the BFI bar has, er, food attached. I think it's quite reasonably priced, from the vague glances I've given the menu when I've been considering something to line the stomach!

Ooh, are we in danger of making a decision?

herbaceous · 19/09/2011 13:46

Upon inspection, you can book a table/area in the lounge bit - which also does snacks, such as a pint of sausage rolls IIRC. And/or we could eat in the restaurant, menu here. Gets the odd scathing review on Square Meal, but it's more about the company, really, isn't it...

Stropperella · 19/09/2011 13:51

Looks good to me! I have now booked my train tickets at a very reasonable advance tickets price. And now I've come over all scaredy.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2011 13:54

Mmm, menu looks good and plenty of choice. Would we mill around in the bar for a bit and then book a table for later? What do peeps think?

DukesOfTripHazard · 19/09/2011 13:55

Well I like places with a whiff of intellectualism. When I consulted House of Whiffs they said that was one of my most compatible smells. That's my way of saying I like the sound of BFI but truly I am a happy sheep so bring on what you choose.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2011 13:57

Strop, well done on booking your tickets. Hold your nerve, we are all crepeys together!

herbaceous · 19/09/2011 14:04

I think milling in the bar to get all merry and chatty, and for a resolve-strengthening sherry, then a table a bit later - 8.30?

I'm feeling all giddy and excited. Next, a wardrobe crisis.

DukesOfTripHazard · 19/09/2011 14:11

Well done Strops. That's commitment.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2011 14:24

Me too Herbs! I am hoping to go to Westfield next week with a friend, so maybe I can find something new and exciting to wear!

DukesOfTripHazard · 19/09/2011 14:27

I bought this yesterday. www.clothingattesco.com/invt/bt121292/ It's not exciting but it is nice and at the very least showerproof.

herbaceous · 19/09/2011 14:38

I'm off to Sainsbo's once DS wakes from his nap, so maybe I'll treat myself to a little something!

DukesOfTripHazard · 19/09/2011 14:48

Ha! Maybe we should give a prize to anyone in top to toe supermarket clothing.

herbaceous · 19/09/2011 14:52

And another prize to the one who spots said outfit!

Yes to BFI here too. Didn't realise you could eat in the back bit, how brilliant. It used to be you could only get food in the riverside bar/cafe which has possibly the worst accoustics in London, whenever dh and I go there, we just nod and smile at each other, deaf as posts. And yes to milling around drinks followed by a table about 8.30/8.45.

CointreauVersial · 19/09/2011 17:46

Definitely need some sort of table/proper food at some point in the evening. I'm not one of those people who can make it through an evening just nibbling on a bar snack; I like a nice square meal!

BFI sounds good, intellectually whiffy or otherwise.

wilbur · 19/09/2011 17:55

As an aside, I started lo-carbing again today and am currently making the dcs risotto for dinner. I am having chicken. Just chicken. And I have to do an hour of crazy-hard keep fit first. I must be mad. It's all I can do to resist grabbing the risotto pan and running down the road with it, spooning it into my gob as I go.

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/09/2011 18:02

I will need food - I cannot drink much on an empty stomach due to lack of gall bladder and will throw up if I don't have something to eat. I will try and have Substantial Lunch, which will help.

Can someone explain to me in words of one syllable where this place is?

MI - I will be coming from Trafalgar Square - we could walk/bus/tube together?

OP posts:
wilbur · 19/09/2011 18:23

MrsS - if you're coming from the Charing Cross area you can get the tube to Waterloo, but to be honest it's probably as quick to walk. Walk from Charing Cross to Embankment and then up and across Hungerford Bridge. Come down from H Bridge and walk east along the river front, past the Festival Hall. As you go under Waterloo Bridge, there is an entrance to the BFI (it might say National Film Theatre) literally under the bridge. This is the Riverfront cafe - you can go in here and snake your way through the building, but it's probably easier to walk on and turn right after you have passed fully under the bridge and walk down between the BFI and the National Theatre. There is an entrance to the BFI bar/lounge bit (also the box office) up some steps about 100 yards down on the right hand side. It's all glass windows and there's a film bookshop there too, right by the entrance, you can't miss it.

Wilbur - I'm still lo-carbing, but I have a very simple rule - if I'm out for dinner I can stuff as much carb-o-licious grub into my face as I like.

Case in point - Wagamama last week.

bigTillyMint · 19/09/2011 19:40

It sounds like the BFI is the venue!

BlackDuck and ruby, it's make a decision so we know how many to book for Wink

Don't know how anyone can do lo-carbingBlush

motherinferior · 19/09/2011 19:52

Dukes

I am in dubious position of havig met actually most of you Blush, I suspect. In fact my get-out-of-jail card for 7th is to 'meet Mrs S'.

Have managed day of utter under-achievement at work and am now about to liaise with co-writer of a textbook I am supposed to be co-writing. Who would fit delightfully onto this thread, really, you'd alll like her.
