Oh. Caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror while shopping today and I have turned into a frumpy mumsy mum! Anyone want to join me?

Now I'm a mum I seem to have lost all sense of style and fashion. Admittedly, today I am wearing the 'MN no no' of linen trousers, but I think I now see why so many of you hate them. I was never a dedicated follower of fashion, but I used to look quite nice...I think.

Action is needed!

  1. Dust off my Davina work out DVD
  2. find a local zumba class
  3. ditch the linens...(maybe Wink)
  4. build up some confidence to have a personal shopper or, go shopping somewhere bigger where there is better choice at least.
  5. time to branch out into the next age bracket of shops I think. I feel too old for top shop and similar places. Time to buy less but nicer pieces maybe.

Anyone else feeling a bit frumpy, mumsy and generally lacking in style ideas?

I luckily wanted the citrine/green one - the grey one is running out....

TimeForCake · 05/08/2011 13:23

Oh dear. I've bought the aqua bolero too (wedding coming up)

stitchthis · 05/08/2011 19:27

And a vintage 50s hat plus a handmade hatpin from Etsy. I am going to be so smart!!!!! Must go and lie down Grin

MissRead · 05/08/2011 20:55

I bought a lovely cardi from Phase Eight off the back of this thread so thanks for the link, not somewhere I'd have thought of shopping before.

DrCoconut · 06/08/2011 00:01

Since DS2 I've become a fan of the esbelt. Not at all sexy but hides a multitude of chocolate and hate exercise related sins. My granny would be proud of my firm foundation garment choice!

Tell me what is wrong with Linen trousers? Seriously? I have a lovely black pair from Hobbs and they were very expensive so am gutted!

TimeForCake · 06/08/2011 22:04

You've done well Stitch! . I've just discovered Etsy too, some lovely things there.

I'm not too sure Fifitot, no doubt someone will explain shortly. I saw a lady today wearing a pair and she looked well dressed and lovely. Not at all saggy baggy like I felt the other day. My linens are only high street though so maybe prone to bagginess after a few wears. Yours sound lovely and will be far superior! Don't worry.

I note the Phase Eight jacket has all but sold out online Grin. Hope you're on commission Gilly! I bought a couple of nice tops there today so am pleased.

Noa Noa do some good rolled-up chino type things. I wear with t shirt and a navy knitted jacket from Whistles and some tan medium high sandals. Get lost of compliments from younger colleagues!
I am sticking to mainly plain colours- tan, khaki, navy and of course white. Not good in black.

TimeForCake · 06/08/2011 22:23

Oh good, bought some of those today too. Smile I must admit, they look better on me than my linens. Feeling a bit less mumsy already.
Out for nice lunch in London tomorrow with DH. Will NOT look mumsy but stylish and groomed. .

I wish! Maybe I should send this thread to Phase Eight...some vouchers would do : )

Loving my rolled up chinos too btw, I have stone and navy pairs, I particularly love wearing them with a stripy top and tan sandals, and of course a little soft blazer. Grin

fifitot · 07/08/2011 07:17

Can someone link to the blazer please? I can't find it.

fifitot · 07/08/2011 07:22

Oh found it. Very nice but won't suit me. I'm tall so need something that comes down lower than mid hip so that I don't look too lanky!

Desperately trying to get ideas from this thread. I live in jeans, t-shirts and converse, like some ageing student and really need help. I still haven't found a jacket to suit me to be honest. I also pretty much have zero budget, well maybe Primark budget and preference for expensive clothes unfortunately. I find it hard to buy cheap stuff as it just doesn't last.

used2bthin · 07/08/2011 08:25

Drcoconut I am very excited about that corset! So does it really not ride up or force fat either side of it and cause over hang? If not I will be buying one-having to stop myself from going to wake DP up to see if I can order it (joint account-terrible for my shopping but I think that is the point).

I am getting married soon so maybe it would be a good under dress thing? Do you wear yours as an every day thing though too? Does it work under trousers/jeans etc or just dresses? Many questions!

gillybob I recently got trousers like yours in miss selfridge-I had a voucher and had trouble spending it as the clothes are cut for teens I think but the jeans were the only thing that fitted. Anyway they are really similar. I like them and am going to wear them with ballet pumps or under boots in winter.

noddyholder · 07/08/2011 09:26

That is so expensive tatty and looks a bit mother of the bride. My aunties all wear that sort of thing winds moor and alexon I think it is just because it is net a porter that bit is so over priced.

notyummy · 07/08/2011 09:53

Think I agree with Noddy on that jacket Tatty. Model pulls it off because she is.....a model. Unless you are unlined of face and coltish of build, I suspect that it would be a LOT harder to pull of without straying into MOther of the Bride territory.

Gillybobs · 07/08/2011 11:34

I like it Tatty, as I was saying earlier in the thread I think its all about how how "style" something, if you wore that with black skinnies and killer heels/ankle boots I think it would look amazing.
