Oh. Caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror while shopping today and I have turned into a frumpy mumsy mum! Anyone want to join me?

Now I'm a mum I seem to have lost all sense of style and fashion. Admittedly, today I am wearing the 'MN no no' of linen trousers, but I think I now see why so many of you hate them. I was never a dedicated follower of fashion, but I used to look quite nice...I think.

Action is needed!

  1. Dust off my Davina work out DVD
  2. find a local zumba class
  3. ditch the linens...(maybe Wink)
  4. build up some confidence to have a personal shopper or, go shopping somewhere bigger where there is better choice at least.
  5. time to branch out into the next age bracket of shops I think. I feel too old for top shop and similar places. Time to buy less but nicer pieces maybe.

Anyone else feeling a bit frumpy, mumsy and generally lacking in style ideas?

Reiss have got some really nice stuff coming in.

Do you have a good pair of jeans because worth splurging on them in my opinion - I rate J Brand, Goldsign and Citizens of Humanity from a premium denim perspective.

Also some good boots for winter but not fly mols Wink - Belstaff are brilliant if you have the budget. And a good winter coat, nice scarf (I like leopard print) and a fab handbag.

MrsCampbellBlack · 04/08/2011 19:20

Oh and for winter I like a cardi/coat - I have this one from last year that I wore loads. Its a good flattering style and very warm.

KaySirah · 04/08/2011 19:33

all nert a porter do is shove on some silly high heels and a cuff bracelet

TimeForCake · 04/08/2011 19:34

I love the coat MrsCB!

You are a mine of fashion advice, thank you.
No, I don't have what I would call a decent pair of jeans. Never really found ones that flatter so have stuck to very average high street pairs.

But, I feel far better informed already!

why are you even SHOPPING at country casuals fsg

they are mum jeans

TimeForCake · 04/08/2011 19:38

Thanks for the links Gilly. I have always steered clear of slim leg trousers as I thought they were for ladies with good legs and mine aren't! Maybe I should try them though.

Ahem Kay - any helpful suggestions Wink

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 20:01

Kaysirah they are not mum jeans at all. I can assure you. I have never bought/worn mum jeans and never will. Saw them in the window, went in for the first time ever. They are v v cute on and are a fantastic fabric. I can see you might struggle to believe me, have faith : )

InspectorPinot · 04/08/2011 20:08

Gillybobs I'm loving the knitted blazer / structured cardi thing! It's in my basket on the Phase Eight website as I type but does anyone know how their sizing comes up?

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 20:14

I'm a 16 and quite busty, I took the 18 as they didnt have a 16 left and its roomy but fine on. I'd say they are true to size-generous.

InspectorPinot · 04/08/2011 20:22

Right, it's ordered - thanks!

noddyholder · 04/08/2011 22:32

Country casuals please god no ! My mum wouldn't even wear those. The knitted blazer is mumsy looking too. There are other options!

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 22:39

Well I wore them tonight with leopard print kitten heels and a lovely lace t shirt from River Island. They looked v cute and far from mumsy. I think I can see past the label to the cut and fabric. Dont care if something is from Topshop or CC if its well made and looks good.

Each to their own though : )

And yes of course there are other options.

RollingInTheAisles · 04/08/2011 22:39

I really like the knitted blazer, hoping they might have it in store when I go shopping tomorrow...

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 22:43

Rolling they had every size available online tonight if you dont get it tomorrow

RollingInTheAisles · 04/08/2011 22:45

I'm having a dilemma on sizes, I'm between a 12 and a 14, probably 14 really but worried it might be too big, hopefully will still be available online if not in store. I can imagine it with a longer top underneath and necklace or nice earrings... Hmmm

TimeForCake · 04/08/2011 22:45

What are your other options noddy. I'm open to all new ideas if it improves my wardrobe. Kaysirah, you too...

Thanks for the tip by the way, amazing price!

perfumedlife · 04/08/2011 22:45

The jeans look fab Gillybobs and CC has actually got a few hidden gems if you have an eye. If the label on them was Boden am sure they would have went down a storm Smile

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 22:47

perfumedlife EXACTLY!

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 22:49

Rolling I'd order both sizes and return one. At that price you can afford the postage (returns are free I think)!

TimeForCake · 04/08/2011 22:52

Grin perfumedlife!

OP posts:
RollingInTheAisles · 04/08/2011 23:01

Why didn't I think of that!

Those CC trousers look quite flattering, Is the waist quite high? I love trousers that come a little higher because there's no muffin top and I can bend and kneel without revealing anything. I wear long tops so you can't tell they're higher waisted anyway and so much more flattering.

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 23:02

For anyone who is interested in a jersey blazer there are a few nice ones here

Gillybobs · 04/08/2011 23:04

Rolling yes indeed they do. They are a 29" inside leg which is ankle length on me at 5' 7'. Wearing them with kitten heels or flat pumps now, then tucked into knee high riding boots come Autumn
