Does anyone use this? My friend swears by it but just wanted to see the general consensus before I order the starter kit.

Valium, thanks for the Avon tip, though I personally don't find the BE foundation shiny. But cheaper would be good!

I started using BE mineral makeup after a similar thread on MN, about a year ago, and have never looked back. I'm not a girlie girl about make-up, hair, etc, and though I'm reasonably presentable, I don't like make-up 'routines', so I never bothered to learn how to put normal make-up on. I found the mineral stuff easy to apply with the brushes, light and really natural-looking. I went to House of Fraser initially, had a session with the girl on the booth and then, because she didn't have the blusher I'd liked, I went online and found both foundation and blusher on ebay (new, in packaging) for a lot less! So that's another route I could recommend. My SIL then gave me all her unwanted QVC BE stash (she's a compulsive QVCer and didn't get on with BE) so I have quite a lot now. I use Medium Beige most of the time, and the Fairly Light in winter, along with Golden Gate blusher and some eyeshadows. I still have a Body Shop eye pencil though! Grin

I use lily lolo mineral foundation which imo is much better than bare escentuals. I suffer from acne prone skin and I remember when I was looking into mineral foundation, I was totally put of by the fact that bare escentuals contains bismuth, which can be a none irriatant for sensitive skin. Theres plenty of mineral makeup brands that dont have this ingredient, lily lolo is alot cheaper than bm also.

I've ordered the Avon one for now, it's only £5.25 do I ordered it in two colours! Any tips on application ladies?

The Avon one goes on nicely fanny - swirl your brush around in a TINY amount of powder, tap the brush so any excess falls off and isn't 'sitting' on the bristles, then starting at the outside of your face swirl the brush in towards your nose - this was you don;t get loads of powder on your nose! Swirl (buff) your face for the length of time it takes you to sing Happy Birthday to properly blend and then add more if you want more coverage.

Thanks Valium - I buy MAC brushes and have their foundation one - would that work?

No you need a big blusher type brush for mineral foundation fanjo

BoysAreLikeDogs · 31/07/2011 13:26

you need a stubby brush (think badger shaving brush shape)

make sure that you moisturise first AND that your skin is dry before applying

I love BM, great coverage, FLAWLESS finish, easy to use

swirl tap buff buff buff then buff more

valiumredhead · 31/07/2011 13:34

Kabuki brush - could NOT think of the name of it! That's what you need!

UPDATE!!!! I bought the Avon one and although I like it I am not sure whether it feels too cakey - am I putting too much on?

just looked at the avon webiste and they have an offer on at the moment, if you buy a certain make up item you can get the mineral powder for £2.00 :)
I have just put in my basket a large make up brush for £6 and got the minerals powder for £2.00. Go for it, try it, cant go wrong for £2.00, should be £10.50

It sounds like I'm doing something wrong - I'm completely rubbish at applying make up and can't get the BE I have to look any good. Am about to start a new thread to get tips for a complete make up rookie...

gregssausageroll · 18/08/2011 09:20

Have a look on you tube Caring. There are tutorials on there.

gregssausageroll · 18/08/2011 09:21

or even QVC. Chose a product such as foundation and there are video clips on there by the actual BE people here in the UK.

I have used Avon one again today and loads better. I think my problem was that I had ran out of my usual moisturiser so face probably bit drier than normal but it was great today. Didn't put as much on either. It can look a bit mask like if you go too heavy handed. SOOOO thumbs up from me for Avon one!! I bought the Ivory and it's perfect for my fairish skin. Thanks Valium for the tip!
