Does anyone use this? My friend swears by it but just wanted to see the general consensus before I order the starter kit.

Rosa I order mine from the website Feelunique which has excellent service and about £5 off department stores price.

miche8 · 24/07/2011 18:56

fanny - you and your girls are gorgeous, please post an ugly photo to make me feel better. I would say order the medium, as i'd rather have a slightly too dark foundation rather than a ghostly light one. If you order from qvc you can return. The concealers are rubbish and i didn't think the warmth was anything special. The first few times you will get messy, so give yourself plenty of time. If i use a wet foundation now after a few days the spots come back. Make sure you moisturise really well and let it sink in.

HeavyHeidi · 24/07/2011 20:04

get the starter kit first. I also read all those amazing reviews and thank god i didn't buy full size - absolutely hated it, made my otherwise ok skin look horrible, pores were like massive craters, yuck.

dearprudence · 24/07/2011 20:08

I can take or leave mineral veil and concealer, although I used the stuff in the starter packs. I use the concealer brush with the foundation under eyes, etc.

I LOVE the warmth. When I first put the foundation on, I thought it wasn't doing anything, but when I added the warmth I felt like I had make-up on.

Thanks ladies for the advice - Miche the ugly ones get deleted... Believe me theres more bad ones than good! Thank you for the compliment though. Smile

My friend told me to go get the correct shade from debenhams as she ordered online and got wrong one. I'll pop to town one day this week. I'll let you all know what I think when I've got some!

I absolutely love it! My facial lady uses it on herself & used it for my wedding make up. I'd suggest getting them to show you how to apply it, as if you only need a ridiculously small amount on your brush or it can get a bit cakey (can also happen if you don't wash the brushes often enough - I do mine every month)
I also love the conceler, blusher & eye-liner. The eye-shadows are good too I think, but I don't really use them much.

Rosa · 25/07/2011 12:41

Valium - Thank you I have placed an order and as I am in the UK later this week it should co incide nicely !!!!

valiumredhead · 25/07/2011 15:39

My other discovery is AVON ( don't all recoil in horror! Wink) smooth minerals powder foundation which is £10 and when it's on offer only a fiver - it is far superior in packaging and formulation to Bare Minerals imo, I'm REALLY amazed and I am a make up snob, I only ordered it as I felt sorry for the girl who delivered the magazine Grin About 10 different shades, I use Ivory and in Bare Minerals I am fair.

HelloMyNameIsHilda · 27/07/2011 17:37

oooh, was just about to go and buy a BE starter kit for about £50 but after your post valium I might just order the avon one...I always found their primer avonshop.co.uk/product/make-up/face/avon-magix-face-perfector.html?qty=1&x=1#36067 to be one of the best too

I'm pale though, am fairly light in BE - so what shade should I go for - is ivory the lightest?

so now, do I go get the BE one or order from avon

with the starter kit I think you get a few brushes, the "warmth", "mineral veil" and a primer. Is it worth the outlay?

I have a nice kabuki brush already and a couple of brushes that work for concealer etc

hmmm...dilemma...

minipie · 27/07/2011 17:45

just a quick hijack

has anyone with acne tried using mineral makeup and how did you find it?

I've had acne since age 12 Sad and I generally use Dermalogica tinted moisturiser + MAC concealer but I am wondering about trying the mineral stuff.

But will it cover anything? Will I end up needing the MAC concealer as well anyway... How do you get a powdery concealer in exactly the right place?

valiumredhead · 27/07/2011 17:49

Yes coverage is very good much better than Mac concealor and perfect for acne scars. The powder almost turns to liquid when you put it on - very hard to explain but it does the job!

HelloMyNameIsHilda · 27/07/2011 18:02

valium

would you really recommend avon mineral makeup over BE? I'm a mineral virgin and was about to leave work and go get the customizable BE as I got a call earlier to say they now have it back in stock (went to buy it last week but it was out)

now not sure what to do!

valiumredhead · 27/07/2011 18:08

I would get Bare Minerals first as it's a really good starting point and essential to see a consultant so she can show you the right application etc - seems odd at first but you get SO used to it very quickly - THEN when you know what colour you are etc be a cheapskate and try the Avon one!

valiumredhead · 27/07/2011 18:10

I like the Avon one as it is less shiny luminescent than the Bare Minerals one, although they do a Matt version now which I haven;t tried but have read good things about.

RedPenny · 27/07/2011 19:53

I used to use this but then I discovered Sonya® Aloe Mineral Makeup by Forever Living Products. I find it goes on better, lasts longer and feels great on my very sensitive skin.

Kitso · 28/07/2011 09:57

Have a look at www.everydayminerals.com. As good as the bare essentials but much cheaper. I used to use the bare essentials but then discovered everyday minerals.

minipie · 28/07/2011 10:04

Thanks Valium. Is Bare Minerals the same as Bare Escentuals (or whatever it's called) - will have a look.

valiumredhead · 28/07/2011 11:10

Yes minipie :)

valiumredhead · 28/07/2011 11:14

Kitso that looks a good website but can I order from the UK?

HelloMyNameIsHilda · 29/07/2011 12:48

I ordered this little trial kit from amazon - just got delivered today - has original and matte mineral foundation, some mineral veil, little pot of concealer, and two handy brushes for when on the move, a mini full flawless face brush and a mini concealer brush

seems like a good trial kit for under twenty quid

also ordered the avon one for Grin £5.25 so will see what I think

TheBolter · 29/07/2011 12:56

I'm big on mineral powder and creating a flawless face and I swear by Laura Mercier - apparently Bare Escentuals' mineral powders are quite small in size and comparatively expensive!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/07/2011 12:59

Hilda - that's the one I got from Debenhams but it was cheaper in Debenhams than on Amazon, surprisingly. It's lasted ages considering it's so tiny - I now don't know whether to invest in the bigger 'starter' pack or not - I suspect that the Warmth will be far too dark for me, so perhaps a waste of money?

HelloMyNameIsHilda · 29/07/2011 13:25

wow! you got a good deal remus Grin

I've just tried it and I really like it. did half my face in original and half in matte, slightly prefer the matte but I think it might come up just a tad darker, which isn't great for me

the concealer brush is fab and the sides of my noses and inner eyesockets have never looked so good, well, not since I was in my late teens/early twenties (and didn't realise things were at their best!) anyway

it feels lovely on

let's see how it wears now

remus when I tried it in teh BE shop I was terrified of the warmth when I saw her brandishing it - but it was actually quite subtle and just brought the whole thing up a step

remind me what the veil is for? and how to apply? (I just sort of swirled it all around on top)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/07/2011 15:16

Will go and have a look instore at the Warmth - am v v pale though.

Veil - yep, I just waft it on top!
