I read on the net you could use it as a facial oil so gave it a shot. It's been amazing! My skin is painfully dry though, not sure if would work on oily skin.

I used a bit as a hair serum and was brill as well, so much better than that bloody Emperor's New Clothes Moroccan Oil which is mostly silicones anyway.

I do not work for the Avocado Oil Board, btw.

Googled oil cleansing method for you Pinot, start with 50/50 extra virgin olive oil and castor oil. Massage in, then get a clean wash cloth, run it under water and lay it over your face until washcloth is room temp. Massage oil in again and do washcloth thing again, repeat a few times, then rinse washcloth and gently wipe excess oil off face.

So shopping now, a washcloth, some extra virgin olive oil and some castor oil. It also mentions adjusting the mix and adding other oils like jojoba etc.

ClaireDeLoon · 21/07/2011 09:40

I got the argan oil from amazon, I think BoF linked to it. Will find you a link.

Pin0t · 21/07/2011 10:33

I love you Claire! You were just as brilliant with the kittens thread :) :)

AgentProvocateur · 21/07/2011 11:39

Thanks, Claire. Got it all now.

Riveninside · 21/07/2011 11:49

do you mix the argan oil with something for the OCM or use it straight?>

ruddynorah · 21/07/2011 12:17

Pinot- I don't use anything to moisturise. I have the oil in a pump and I use one squirt and massage it all over my face. Then I get a flannel in hot water, wring it out, put on my face to steam a but then wipe the oil away. I then rinse flannel again, wring, and wipe again. That's it.

I started off using 10% castor oil to 90% olive oil but now just olive oil is fine. I might try avocado oil. I used to buy olive oil from boots but now just use what we cook with.

BumperlicicusTotalus · 21/07/2011 13:25

Neal's yard orange flower facial oil is a fab little miracle worker.

Pin0t · 21/07/2011 14:41

Thanks ruddy It seems too good to be true! Cheap and effective? It's the holy grail of skincare!

kyacat · 28/07/2011 20:38

I got some of this yesterday and it seems nice on my skin and hair but it smells hideous - like chip fat. It is green. Is this normal?

CakeandRoses · 28/07/2011 21:01

claire/pinot i wouldn't do 50% castor oil. it's strong stuff and can cause dry skin and flaking and even facial hair Shock according to some.

as far as i've worked out it's best to do the full ocm 2-3 times a week using 20% castor oil or less (with the rest being some other type of oil such as olive, jojoba etc)

the rest of the time i use the other oil (with no castor oil) and no steaming, just massage oil on and wipe off with a flannel or muslin. leaves my skin completely clean (i wear makeup every day and it comes off brilliantly with this) and does not need moisturiser after.

I;ve been doing this for nearly 2 weeks so far and i love it. my skin's just going thru the breakout phase but not too badly then i'm hopeful my skin will be perfect Smile

i've tried sweet almond, jojoba and argan oil (and castor) so far. I'll give avocado a go too after this.

CakeandRoses · 28/07/2011 21:03

i've also been taken in by bloody silicon moroccan oil so will try avocado oil on my hair instead

MissFoodie · 29/07/2011 09:45
  • avocado oil should be green, yes - doesnt smell divine no
  • wouldn use argan oil to cleanse, more of a treatment afterwards, but yes, also good on hair
  • that morocan oil is rubbish, is glorified frizz ease!
  • how are you all getting on with the ocm?
:)
CakeandRoses · 29/07/2011 10:28

yy, i've stopped using argan oil for the ocm as it is pretty expensive, it was just all i had in to begin with. i have used a drop or 2 for any extra moisturising afterwards but that's not been needed often

i can't believe what a well kept secret ocm is (outside of mn!) - it's just brilliant!

VodkaDash · 01/08/2011 15:43

Been reading through this thread and I've never found any product that helps with my skin!

Part oily part dry and I have rosecea - not very badly but prone to monthly breakouts and have a permanent redness which I detest - any ideas whether ils or the OCM would work for me and if so, which oil?

Thanks

lancashirewife · 01/08/2011 18:25

I use Neals yard orange oil too which is gorgoeus.

Another vote for their coconut oil too......Neals Yard organic facial oil is only about £4 and is fab!

chipstick10 · 01/08/2011 18:32

Me and my dd and ds2 are getting on brilliantly. We use caster oil three times a week, probably less than 20% along with sweet almond oil. Rest of the time just sweet almond oil. We love it.

kyacat · 01/08/2011 23:03

Thanks Missfoodie I don't know if I can cope with the smell to actually use the avocado oil! And I used a little on my hair and it made it really oily :(

CakeandRoses · 01/08/2011 23:20

vodka i'm pretty sure it works on any type of skin but i'd be careful with the steaming as it could make your redness worse. perhaps do the oil and just wipe off with warm flannel rather than a steamy one?

jojoba is the one closest to the skin's natural oil so might be a good one to try? most people seem to get on with sweet almond oil too.

tis def worth using a castor oil dilution a few times a week too to help with the break outs.

chipstick snap! same routine as i've settled on

FunnyLittleFrog · 02/08/2011 08:45

I have oily / dry skin and have been doing OCM using jojoba oil for the last week or so and the results are stunning. At the end of the day I just massage my face with the oil and then steam with a hot muslin. In the morning I just have a wipe with the muslin. I don't need a moisturiser.

For the first two days I could actually feel all the junk coming out, like the oil had loosened all the debris. After that my pores seemed to shrink and I have a healthy glow - no dry patches and no spots. The jojoba oil cost around £3 online and the muslins were left over from when DD was tiny.

I honestly think that OCM is the way forward - it's cheap and it bloody works!!

MissFoodie · 02/08/2011 12:05

kyacat, am not surprised! use it as a treatment then shampoo out?
re OCM, I would try jojoba and/or sweet almond
Vodkadash, ditto

PinotsWolefCubs · 29/08/2011 16:02

How is everyone getting on? I now use 80/20 ratio of jojoba to castor and am loving it.

Also using avocado oil on my body and argan oil on my hair! I'm a convert!

FellatioNelson · 29/08/2011 16:03

Arf, just finished reading the OP and was thinking 'I wonder if she works in PR for avocados?'

PinotsWolefCubs · 29/08/2011 16:06

Oh Fell try it! It's no good for my face but my body is silky as err, silk now :)
