I read on the net you could use it as a facial oil so gave it a shot. It's been amazing! My skin is painfully dry though, not sure if would work on oily skin.

I used a bit as a hair serum and was brill as well, so much better than that bloody Emperor's New Clothes Moroccan Oil which is mostly silicones anyway.

I do not work for the Avocado Oil Board, btw.

JoeyKate: so great to read! if you want to vary, there are some lovely oil based balms you can try or even coconut oil:

Just used it tonight followed by Suti face oil....bliss

I have been using pure shea butter in tiny quantities and it's fab and I've been getting far fewer monthly spots (33yrs).

Even with my rash-like/eczema forehead, by morning, if applied at night, it's calm and a lot less red.

might try jojoba oil though - is it cold pressed that you're all using or pure oil?

MissFoodie · 13/07/2011 23:00

Whatever oil you decide to go for, make sure it's cold pressed, and if possible, organic - Fushi is very good and you can order online from them or amazon, I love Shea Butter but prefer it blended with something else. Have a look at these:
yumetc.blogspot.com/2011/03/nourish-me.html
Re Jojoba, either plain or the Melvita one, which has a high jojoba content, it's super light, almost serum like

HeavyHeidi · 14/07/2011 06:52

Yes, oil works wonders on oily skin! I haven't tried the supermarket yet, but use Dr Hauschka face oil and also decleor - no shine and skin looks great. All those anti-shine products just dry your skin out.

chimchar · 14/07/2011 06:59

is it literally oil...like a bottle of olive oil or is it in a solid form, like lard?

sounds great, and i'll give it a go. my skin is bloody awful...really ageing quickly.

like grumpy says, which isle please?

wrinkley Smile

I have just started cleansing with oil. Extra virgin and caster oil, dd is also on board. Started on sunday and have had no adverse reactions. Infact before i put make up on in the morning my skin looks clearer somehow. Also have started ds2 on it as he has slight acne breakouts. Atm his skin is not angry but if so i will add a few drops of tea tree oil to the mix. I have almond oil at my disposal and im sure there are different combinations you can use, but app evoo is nearest to the ph balance of the skin.

This is fascinating! Oil and steaming with a hot flannel? Do you just use a little tiny drop?

I only have vegetable oil in the cupboard as not shopping til later Sad

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 14/07/2011 08:41

Ruby don't use that one, bin it and get a fresh one. I'm a Rosehip oil devotee, been using it for 5 years now. It's not good if you have oily skin though but the beauty of oils is there is one for every skin type plus you can mix them and add things as the mood takes you.

chipstick10 · 14/07/2011 10:01

Does anyone know what oils are suitable for what skin type?

carat · 14/07/2011 11:33

Coconut oil is really good too.

You can use avocado oil as a base and ad two drops of aromatherapy oil. Rose is good for calming irritated skin and dry skin.

This thread is an absolute revelation!

I'm copying and saving this for the future!

MissFoodie Do I use Jojoba as a moisturiser? And how would it be best to cleanse? I've got oily skin Blush and a few spots Blush

MissFoodie · 14/07/2011 13:41

Re using oil as a night treatment: see here for various ways to apply and info re oils
yumetc.blogspot.com/2011/03/nourish-me.html
oily skin: jojoba, sesame, rosehip
dry: avocado, wheatgerm
Re using jojoba oil as eye make up remover: see here
yumetc.blogspot.com/2011/04/mv-organic-skincare-cleansing-method.html
Re buying: I would buy online from Fushi or Fushi brand via Amazon. Alternatively, Holland & Barrett, Whole Foods, or good health food type shop.
Re using coconut oil as a cleanser, see here:

chipstick10 · 14/07/2011 14:34

I have read on one website that says you shouldnt use the ocm every night. Surely if you go back to shop bought cleansers then you could undo all the hard work. I assumed this was a cleansing method that could be used religiously.

MissFoodie · 14/07/2011 16:56

to be honest I use a mixture of both, I use pure oil, oil based balms and cream cleansers, it depends on the mood and how much make up I have on, etc - I have never had a problem switching;

what I have never used it face washes/soaps

halftermnutter · 19/07/2011 18:13

how about rosehip oil? any thoughts on this one?

MissFoodie · 20/07/2011 20:33

rosehip is great as a moisturiser/night treatment, not for cleansing though, it's too light

OTheHugeManatee · 20/07/2011 20:40

I hate shop-bought moisturisers. I like this thread.

So if I have dry skin after washing in the morning, can I use the oil + hot flannel method instead of some nasty moisturising paste?

snoozingbeauty · 21/07/2011 09:16

This is the second thing I've seen on oils for oily skin this week. I was reading this on Channel 4 website the other day: www.channel4.com/4beauty/make-up-skin-care/skin-care/face-oil
I just use my oil (Clarins) once a week though, Mama Mio's Mighty Moisture is the only thing that's working on my post-preg/b-feeding hormonal skin at the mo. Anyone else tried that? Total godsend.

ruddynorah · 21/07/2011 09:22

I have been oil cleansing for over 2 years. My skin is perfect. Used to be oily, shiny, dry patches, spotty, open pores, spots, blackheads. All cleared up. I sorted it with castor oil and olive oil mix. I now maintain it with plain olive oil from the kitchen.

Pin0t · 21/07/2011 09:24

ruddy what do you use for moisturising? Your skin sounds like mine and I'm using jojoba for moisturising (just started this week).

Any tips please?

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 21/07/2011 09:28

Ok, so complete beginner here, my skin has not dealt well with my turning later 30s, what exactly is the deal and how do I use it?

I have pretty dry skin, tendency to flakiness and yet open pores.

Oh yes. Am pretty foxy. grrr.

Grin
ClaireDeLoon · 21/07/2011 09:30

I have used a facial oil at night for a few years now and wouldn't go back to a cream. I have slightly dry skin and it helps with that, plus my fine lines were deepening to wrinkles and it really improved them, a few years later and they're still fine lines at 39.

The one I use is prickly pear and rose oil, I have argan oil for my hair bhut never thought of trying that on my face. When the bottle of facial oil runs out I will give the argan oil a go.

AgentProvocateur · 21/07/2011 09:31

Can someone explain in simPle terms exactly what you do with the oil, and when to use it? I am in town, on my phone, and I want to buy some NOW. I can't c&p the links above, so a summary would be fab. TIA.

Pin0t · 21/07/2011 09:32

Grin at MrsD's grr!

It's all about the Blush on this thread isn't it! Wink

Claire (hi!) where did you get the argan oil from?
