Stylish mini toddler rucksack for preschool

I love bags and love bag shopping but can't justify buying any more for me Sad

Anyway, DD is starting preschool in September and would love to get her a really lovely little rucksack to take with her. I was thinking of a Cath Kidston rucksack but when I went to the preschool taster session every toddler was toting one and I don't want to just join the crowd.

So, what lovely bag could I get for her that will be practical and cute. Of course, I could just get a run of the mill Upsy Daisy one but I wanted something a little special.

Any suggestions?

Why don't you take your DD into a shop and let her choose one she likes? She might want an Upsy Daisy one!!

Ooh, I saw a really really cute little bag advertised in this months' Practical Parenting and Pregnancy magazine. Its a company called tinyme.co.uk and they do gorgeous personalised bags. I am going to order one for my son for when he starts nursery :( I'm not sure how much they are but it says in the advert if you sign up for their newsletter you get 10% off of your first order.

Just looked, they are quite expensive (I think, haven't got a clue how much these kind of bags normally cost!) - £25.99 for a lunchbag and £36.99 for a rucksack, v cute though.

Forget stylish, look for something that is practical, durable and hardwearing (=colours won't fade, seams won't come apart), waterproof so you don't have to worry about things getting wet, ergonomic straps so that they can carry it themselves comfortably - any bit of independence is lovely for them.

my preschooler has a Fjallraven Mini Kanken it has a seat pad inside for sitting on wet grass...

Haglofs Corker XS is also good

Thanks for the suggestions. I love the Le Petit Zebre ones and Owl Zoo Kids one is cool, she'd like that I think.

Of course I know I can take her to Asda to get an Upsy Daisy one, but I'd like to get her something different.

Drowning Thats why I liked the Cath Kidston ones, they are PVC coated so quite waterproof and pretty durable.

Yes, plastic tat and branded crap isn't my idea of a stylish house or look either, but its not all about me.

Luke It isn't all about me either. When I started school my mother woke me up on the first day all excited with a present all wrapped up with a big bow on the top. It was my first school bag - probably why I love bags so much. Its a much loved memory because my mum died shortly after.

I want to wake my DD up on her first day of preschool with a special present too, maybe doing the same when she starts proper school too. Then it'll be a little family tradition that my mum is a part of.

So fucking shoot me.

Onion - that's a great idea, lovely thought. But your OP sounds like you are more interested in choosing something that you think is cute, rather than what would necessarily appeal to a toddler (who, admittedly, don't generally have the greatest sartorial style). Apologies if that isn't the case.

can I just point out that said bag will end up containing not quite dry paintings and sticking, so could get ruined pretty quickly. I'd buy something relatively cheap and replaceable if I were you.

Of course I'm going to choose one I think she'd like! There's no reason it can't be one I like too. Soon enough she'll be old enough to want TV characters and we will of course have the obligatory Upsy Daisy bag. But in the meantime I think I am allowed to do some lovely window shopping for a bag that mummy choose especially for her.

(Plus my DH will kill me if I buy any more bags for me)

She already has a littlelife one actually Blush that we use when we go hiking, it lives at my Dads house though, not here. We put snacks and a nappy in it for her, used it for zoo trips too.

Can't quite believe the sniping on this thread.......this is s&b not aibu.......... Op is a lovely idea to get her a special bag I especislly like the owl one linked to......wish could justify getting one for ds but he's only 17mo !

I did think it was a bit sad until I got to the Ops reasons. I think it's quite a sweet way to keep her Mums memory alive.

The Zoo kids ones do matching insulated lunch bags which might be nice for when she starts having lunch away

Samsonite do some lovely animal ones - my son has one that looks like a tortoise shell but in a really nice, non tacky way iyswim. Has lasted for years and looks good as new! I bought it in TK maxx but sure they sell them elsewhere too.

MY DS has the littlelife rucksack - not the baby one with harness, but the toddler one. He is so comfortable with it and will carry lots Grin it goes everywhere, but tbh he won't take it to nursery as a, they give them a pump bag (can you tell I'm oop north Grin) to keep spare clothes in and he'll have a lunch bag so won't bother giving him a rucksack - what will she need it for?
