Time for a new thread.....

OP posts:
ApuskiDusky · 14/07/2011 20:12

Mmm, DH just gone to get thai takeaway, yum.

blossoming · 14/07/2011 20:14

portia, I am slightly obsessed with barometers, and they have a nice chrome one here. But if he's a bit of a snob, these things can cost hundreds, maybe you'd be better off buying a book, like this ultimate sailing adventure one here.

ants, wan and carciofi, and anyone else able to do afternoon on the 28th, put your thinking caps on and pm me possible ideas please!

PORTIA4 · 14/07/2011 21:05

Bloss I love the idea of a barometer, I'll get on it immediately, thanks for thatSmile

wideawakenurse · 14/07/2011 21:21

Ants I am within commuting distance to London, but am thinking of getting it done in London anyhow. I have seen a consultant for HOC who is based in Kensington, but now we are without a laptop, I can't find her. We could be transformed together!

portia that's a tough gift to find. I take it a bottle of 'old navy' wouldn't suffice? Grin

AntPants1 · 14/07/2011 21:24

WAN you are on re getting colours done! Are you meeting up with bloss on the 28th? We could chat then

Zembo · 14/07/2011 21:56

Hello ladies! It's been a while and I've missed you all Smile

Have skim read a bit so huge congratulations to WAN and Namechangeladywhosnameican'trememberatthemo Hope you're both feeling well. Exciting times!

I've been super busy over the last few weeks as managed to negotiate a sooner than expected finish date at work. I am now officially a full-time SAHM! I feel relieved but have another few busy weeks ahead so probably won't get to feel the 'benefits' for a while still.

In other news my DH has got a job in Glasgow!!! I've been very OMG about it but slowly coming round to the idea of moving so far away. The kids and I won't be moving for a while though, we've got loads to sort out first. Have any of you ever lived in Glasgow? We're visiting next weekend.

In S&B news, I finally bought the cobalt jbrands, have already worn them quite a bit. The only thing I've bought from the NAP sale are these fab platform sandals They're amazingly comfortable on. Also I'm currently lusting after this Chloe bag I've been after a 70's style every day cross body bag for a while. What do you think about the colour Bloss Don't think tan is supposed to be one of my colours, but it's very versatile isn't it? I think it'll go with a lot of my summer wardrobe and it's not really a winter bag anyway.

ApuskiDusky · 14/07/2011 22:04

Zembo, how exciting, I love Glasgow. My whole (large) extended family live there, my parents are both Glaswegian but moved away before I was born. I'm going up in a month for a wedding - LK Davina will get her first outing! Love the bag.

blossoming · 14/07/2011 22:22

Hi zembo, lovely to hear from you. I'm sure you look divine in the jbrands! And that Chloe bag, wow! I have a friend in Glasgow but I haven't visited yet. I think though that there are good transport links as she came here quite easily for dc2's funeral. Brilliant shopping there apparently. Big congrats to you for getting your redundancy and to your dh on the job. Is it permanent?

Hi zembo- lovely to see you back-I've missed you.
Those cobalt jbrands must look fantastic on you and I love the bag-impeccable taste as always.

Glasgow- how exciting. I don't really know it but have a super stylish friend from there who still travels back up regularly just to get her hair cut so I don't think you have much to worry about on the style and beauty front.

Grin at cleverything's colours radar.

notyummy · 15/07/2011 07:54

Morning! Had lovely (but tiring) day yesterday.

Zembo- I lived in Glasgow for many years (grew up nearby and then did my degree at Glasgow Uni with my PGCE at Strathclyde Uni ! Also worked there for years in my 20s. I visit at least twice a year and will be there next month. I LOVE it. The shopping is amazing (it has the second largest concentration of fashion retailers in the Uk- London being the first.) Very friendly. Bags of free museums and galleries. Lovely parks. Like any big city there are some areas that are great (and you pay accordingly....) to live. Depending on whether you want independent school or not, but I do know that people raved about Jordanhill and Bearsden for secondary schools, and most of the feeder primaries are good.

Just let me know if you have any questions- as you can tell it is a plce close to my heart! I think HF knows it well too.

petitdonkey · 15/07/2011 08:03

Oooh, Apuski - can I be on your list? I love a bit of property porn!!!

Am trying to catch up with everyone but, as I have a monster hangover, I'm not doing very well! Thank goodness the school has broken up as I don't think I could face the school run today.

Whistles have got the Carrie skirt in again, in red this time - I am debating it despite the fact that I know in my heart it would not go well with my hips...

ApuskiDusky · 15/07/2011 08:51

Morning! Have added you petit.

I forgot that Glasgow was your neck of the woods NY. Agree that Bearsden is very nice (don't know Jordanhill), I also have some family in Milngavie which is a nice family area.

carciofi · 15/07/2011 08:54

Ants, glad you got the Minna, you deserve it. And who can argue with fate! The Stuart Weitzman shoes were a maternity buy I slightly regret as they are a little tight but I am determined to wear them!
Zembo, sounds like exciting times for you. The bag is fab and tan goes with everything. I love the jeans and shoes too.
Bloss, Wan, Ants, I tried to send you a pm, let me know if it doesn't go through!
Icecream, it is easier to go to the post office without DD1 as she insists I buy her comics, Kinder surprise etc so will go this morning.

carciofi · 15/07/2011 08:55

Petit, hope your hangover lifts! I saw the skirt in red, nice colour but hard to wear, I think.

notyummy · 15/07/2011 09:10

Petit - I have similar debate over the carrie skirt and in the end decided not to depress myself by trying it on. Off all the places on my body, my hips/bottom are the ones that could really NOT do with being emphasised.....

hf128219 · 15/07/2011 09:19

I should not be reading this thread as I am meant to be cleaning!! We move on Monday and have a lot to do!

However Zembo Glasgow is fab. I used to live in Kelvinside when I was a child - a beautiful area but with prices to match. I also turned the Christmas lights on in 1977 as I won a painting competition!! I worked there too.

My Dad studied medicine there! Great memories of a great city. Direct flights to Dubai and the US. Fab shopping and great for chilrdren as NY says. I would live there again at the drop of a hat.

As I said Kelvinside is very nice - as is Pollokshields, Bearsden etc. I would tend towards the West End or the South Side. Don't rule out a flat as there are some fabulous conversions with gardens.

This is the main source of property www.gspc.co.uk/ You could also live somewhere like Helensburgh or Kilmacolm outside of Glasgow.

in town or out

Anyway I won't waffle on.

Portia DH is a big sailor. How about one of these

AllBuggiedOut · 15/07/2011 09:36

apuski may I see your photos please?

Feeling grumpy and sorry for myself today. DS2's birthday is before term starts back in September, and slightly against my better judgement, he's having a hire-a-hall, invite-the-whole-class party. He went to lots of these when he started in reception last September, and I thought it would (a) be nice for him to have a big bash and (b) be polite to invite back all those people whose parties he went to last year. But when I sent the invitations out this week, it turns out that one of the girls in the class has already invited more half the class (all the girls and some boys) to her party, same time, same day. Clearly DS2 not one of the boys... I'm aware that I am being unreasonable to be cross about it, but I did talk to the other mum (who I know well, has been to previous parties for DS2, came to my 40th etc etc...) and I thought she would do her DD's party the following week when it is actually her DD's birthday. I'm now worried that we'll have this big hall and magician and not many friends. It's not helping that most people haven't replied to DS's invitation either. Am just left feeling glomy about it and wish I had just done a small party, at home which is what we've always done in the past and works really well.

Sorry, moan over. Glorious weather here at the moment. Wearing chocolate strappy cami top, ancient khaki/orange/brown leaf-print Hobbs skirt and tan glads.

ApuskiDusky · 15/07/2011 09:56

ABO, have added you, could have sworn you already were on there! Sorry to hear about the party strife, sounds awkward. I guess there's no chance of shifting it to a different day is there? Outfit sounds great.

notyummy · 15/07/2011 09:57

HF - I grew up in Helensburgh! (Well from 9 until I went to Uni - was on the East Coast near Dunfermline until then.)

Agree with your words of advice. I only sold my flat in Hyndland (west end of Glasgow) a few years ago. Prices around the the west end can be pretty high (not quite London prices, but still a lot for Scotland) however it is a nice area. Just take advice on individual streets, as some are quite studentified and with that came come 'issues' as you can imagine...

Emo76 · 15/07/2011 10:13

hi everyone, not much style or avidness to report on but just popping in before I go off on hols tomomrrow for two weeks - will be fun catching up on the thread on my return.

DH and DD1 have already left to drive down to Italy, DD2 and I fly tomorrow. DH has taken a bag for me that I panic packed yesterday morning, almost doing a panic NAP order but holding back and trying to be relaxed....!

I went on an amazing track driving day with clients yesterday - was utterly hopeless at most of it but it was a good laugh. Surprisngly tiring though and my arms are sore today!

bloss I am wearing that cream boden silk shirt you recommended a while back -love it

Sorry I will miss the mini meet up but I think a September soirree would be brilliant!

pickledsiblings · 15/07/2011 10:15

ABO, what bad luck. Could you cancel and do as you normally do? We've never done the whole class thing and I don't feel at all guilty. [The way I look at it is, your child brings their gift and so do 30 others and when you tot up the cumulative 'cost' of gifts it probably cancels out the cost of organising the venue. About £250.]

NY I've been trying to 'place' your accent since we met. Now it all becomes clear.

Zembo, are you feeling the Glasgow love? It almost makes me want to relocate. So pleased that your redundancy worked out. Love those green sandals btw.

ICC, I have these braided low hasbeens in red (and blue) from last year and I am not slim footed. They are sooo comfy, would definitely recommend.

Apuski, your house looks good, fingers crossed for you. Don't forget the fresh flowers and freshly brewed coffee/baked bread Smile.

Red, sending you lots and lots of positive vibes for a fantabulous day tomorrow. Make sure you enjoy yourself, weddings are such fun. You will look stunning in your chic bridesmaid outfit, just make sure you work it like Pippa Middleton when you walk down the aisle Grin.

ABO I'd do what Annie suggests. Very wise!

carciofi got your PM. Happy with any of the suggestions. Let's see what the weather is like on the day and take it from there. But at least we have really good plan A, B and C!
