Fit Flops have killed my toes

So I know putting this in S and B is a some what debatable decision BUT bought myself a pair of Fit Flops this week after struggling with dodgy knee joints and Birkenstock cloven hoof syndrome. Got the sequinny ones in bronze, in a 7 when I am really a 6 1/2 but due to my stupid high arches 6s were a bit snug. After 30 minutes of wear from shop back to car my toes have been cut to shreds on the toe post and I am now So should I try to return them to the shop (department store bluddy miles away that I rarely go to) or complain to Fit Flops themselves? Is it most likely because they are a bit too big? Stupidly I wore them outside but they aren't marked and I have kept the receipt and tags. So gutted - really need some comfy and not entirely minging shoes and had to steel myself to spend that much. Boo hoo...

You probably just need to get used to wearing them tbh. I'd give your feet a rest from them for a few days then start wearing them, but wear them for a short time at first and then build up a bit.

Takes a while to get used to it. I've just bought same pair in the silvery colour and am fine, having previously worn a pair of white ones.

I dont think they suit some feet. Shape I mean

(I actually think they dont suit ANYONES feet, style wise, but I'll keep my two pennyworth to myself)

Exactly the same happened to my sister. She bought a 7 when she's usually a 6.5, and the skin between her toes wore away within a day of wearing them. She decided to persevere and carried on wearing them, and now the skin is healing and the toe posts have 'softened' and are more comfortable.

personally, I couldn't face wearing them again, but then I have about 4 pairs of Birkies that I live in all summer...and very comfy feet

Oh thank you ladies - I really want to keep them and all my friends that have them are total converts to the cause. Do you think I should wrap something around the toe post (or my toes)? My mum advised me to put Vaseline on my toes but not sure if that is just her being mad I did buy them on the hottest day of the year so that didn't help. Was just fretting that the sequin ones rub for some reason due to the sequins themselves but clearly not. I hate how I obsessively moisturise my feet but still get heels like cheese rind but obviously babysoft toes.

Podiatrists (foot specialist doctors) recommend using Vaseline in any new shoes that can hack it, so, no, your mum isn't mad.

It took me a bit ofwearing in to be able to wear toepost sandals, but now my Sketchers toneups are so comfy it was well worth it

I have the sequined ones in silver and they are deliciously comfy. They have been ruined by dog walking though, so I need a new pair for my holidays they're not really ruined, they just need washing but I want new ones

DooinMeCleanin go for it lady - my friend that I was shopping with bought a black pair with black rectangle jewel type thingies up the middle and they really looked nice - almost glam

Mine were excruciating for about a week (but across the tops of my feet rather than between the toes) but are now the comfiest thing ever. Persevere and it will be fine!

Thanks LoveInAColdClimate - will let my shredded toes heal over and break those bastard shoes in - they will not beat me goddammit!!

Head for the footcare section in Boots - there's now loads of things to help ease the pain. I have a Compeed stick for reducing friction between your skin and your shoes - I always get blisters as soon as the tights come off. I think you can also get a wrap around thingy to make the toe-post more comfortable.

Stick with it - they are so worth it.

I don't think it's because you've sized up as fitflop tell you to do that if you have wide feet or a high instep.

I have many many pairs and every spring for the first few years I had to break my feet back in to wearing them. This year they've been fine from day one. Interestingly I never had any problems at all with the suede ones.

I tried using the scholl gel things that you wrap around the toe post but they were rubbish, and expensive, and just fell off leaving nasty black marks behind!

Let your toes heal, then wear them - the fitflops, not your toes, well them as well - around the house for a bit, then a little more as your toes toughen up.

Could you try something like these?

Might help to cushion the toe post while you get used to them. I have fit flops and find them the most comfortable pair of shoes I have! I do have very flat feet, though so may be it does depend on foot shape.

If you do decide to keep them then try hair serum on the bits that rub - better than vaseline / lipsalve, a bit like WD40 for your feet!

I think Fit Flops aren't great for high insteps though as the straps are slung low with no give in them. Something they could do with addressing imo.

I had exactly the same things with the same bronze sequin ones. Persevere and they will be blissful. On the firflop site they recommend you get a nail file and rub down the bit that's rubbing..i did this and it did help.

I sell fitflops in my store, the upper strap does give and quite quickly so look at your feet properly in the 6s (maybe in a different shop!) so see how your feet would sit on the sole once they have stretched
We've had a few of the glittery ones back as faulty as the toe posts have been stitched awkwardly and caused bleeding so customers have got refund or exchange their choice HTH

Actually I remember now, I emailed the company cos the toe post was rubbing so much. They suggested and linked to the reviews about it where I got the recommendation to rub the toepost down.

I wouldn't blame FitFlops it your feet can't hack toe posts.

I have some stuff from Superdrug that calls itself moleskin - I don't think it is actually made of moles - that you stick onto rubby bits of shoes.

I wear flip flops a lot though - pretty much nothing else all summer - and couldn't wear Fit Flops, much to my annoyance.

The fact that the straps were too low slung meant that the toe post didn't sit snugly where it should and just migrated about painfully between my toes, causing painful damage.

You have to break them in slowly and only wear them for half an hour a day to start with.

You can buy toe post cushions from chemists and yes vaseline does help!

how crazy that some of them have been made so wrong they hack feet up. especially when they cost a bomb.

i tried on a few pairs in the same size when i got a pair few yrs back, becuase some of them did have dodgy toe posts. I got lucky and found a pair that didn't hurt at all.

tbh i would take them back and exchange for either a 6 or another same size but try on plenty in that size to assess if any feel better than the pair you have. sounds like they could well have dodgy stitching.

oh meant to say, are they the material type ones or the leather ones?

Ha, I do get seduced by their nice thick bouncy soles though.

Agree that they Could Do Better wrt the fugly (and ill-fitting) top halves.
