Does anyone still wear a watch!?

Teachermumof3 · 28/06/2011 13:00

and if so-what's it like? I haven't worn a watch for years now, but am finding myself increasingly frustrated at work when my clock stops working (!) and my phone is in the cupboard and I have no idea what the time is!

mine

It's fab - had it from dh 6 or 7 years ago and only had to change battery once. Still waterproof too - went through the washing machine got rather wet recently and no problems at all. Looks really classy too.

I love my watch (cartier tank francaise) It's beautiful and functional. I hate it if I leave the house without a watch, even though I have the time on my phone.

NunSoQueer · 28/06/2011 16:14

I wear a Rolex my parents bought me the day I got the taken on in the job I do (very competitive).

I only wear it to work and for nights out/formalish occasions. Never around the house or when generally out and about e.g. shopping.

Greenshadow · 28/06/2011 16:16

Why on earth would anyone rather go to the effort of getting a phone out than simply glance down at their left wrist?

Can't understand the logic.

(So, in case you hadn't guessed, yes, I always wear a watch)

PinotsEvilTwin · 28/06/2011 16:19

I love wearing a watch. I think they're trés chic. I have a DKNY one for day wear which can get splashed and bashed and a gold 1961 rolex I bought with my late Nannas inheritance. It's small but solid gold so, I think, very fitting to her memory.

I love Fimbos one.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/06/2011 16:23

I do - have the one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's (a Hamilton) - had it 13 years now.

Ragwort · 28/06/2011 16:28

Err yes, all the time (family heirloom - sentimental value) didn't realise it wasn't the done thing anymore to wear a watch Grin.

Agree with Greenshadow - why on earth would you look at a phone to tell the time - having said that I am not joined at the hip to my mobile as so many people are ............. can happily not use it for a few weeks days at a time.

otchayaniye · 28/06/2011 16:55

I wear one and never take it off - a steel Rolex with a navy face. I only took it off for the birth of my first child!

I had bought my husband one so he returned the favour a year or so after.

Cost a fortune now with the Swiss franc where it is.

virgo1979 · 28/06/2011 18:17

another one here who feels naked without one. Silver Gucci bangle style watch.

Tenebrist · 28/06/2011 18:48

I didn't have a watch for many years but have just started wearing one of these from Bering - claims to have a scratchproof display.

Actually the watch is this one - the first link was to the whole collection.

OddBoots · 28/06/2011 18:55

I stopped wearing one when ds was born nearly 12 years ago as even with a soft one I seem to have the ability to scratch a child with it during day to day activities.

I need to see a clock though, I do get slightly paniced if I can't see the time so I have clocks all around the house. I use my phone mainly when out but I can't at work and I'm not always in sight of the clock (and I work in a pre-school so have the scratching thing) so I have a silicone fob watch on my uniform.

RichTeaAreCrap · 28/06/2011 19:00

Yes I never take mine off. I even shower in it and just move it down my wrist to wash under it. I've had it ages and its a TAG. When the battery goes it has to be sent away to be replaced so I've also got a much cheaper watch to wear when it is being done. I couldnt imagine not wearing one.

And I agree, a good forearm with a nice watch is a good look for a man Grin

storminateacup10 · 28/06/2011 19:08

not since student days...and bizarrely can now tell time almost to to the minute without it :)

Greenshadow · 28/06/2011 20:59

Yes, I also am pretty good at 'knowing' the time without looking at a clock / watch, but I do wonder whether this is because I do actually look subconsciously on a regular basis.

goingmadinthecountry · 28/06/2011 21:29

Had my Longines watch for about 17 years I think. It hasn't dated. Always wear it when I'm out of the house, though cheap waterproof job for beach etc.

feedthegoat · 28/06/2011 21:33

Yes, I have a lovely omega that I wear daily. It was my 30th birthday present and is the only expensive thing I own! I don't wear any jewellery, even my wedding ring.

shesparkles · 28/06/2011 21:39

I've just started wearing one again 24/7 after not wearing one for a good few years, but I can't remember why I stopped!
My day to day one is a stainless steel waterproof job, but I have a lovely gold one my parents gave me for my 21st

chocolateyclur · 28/06/2011 21:41

Yep, I wear my fossil one 24/7. I would LOVE another spoon watch though.

piprabbit · 28/06/2011 21:45

Yes, always. Mine is one of the ones that you don't need to wind (kinetic?) but if you stop wearing it for a day or so it stops going.

Zwitterion · 28/06/2011 21:48

Nope. Haven't in years. I'm always on time though. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/06/2011 21:56

Always here too, feel naked without it and don't carry my phone everywhere. It's easier to look at a watch than a phone. Keep it at the exact time, it is an Citizen Eco drive and it stays spot on always. I am one of those people who hates being late.

MrsMc82 · 28/06/2011 22:22

I do, love it, mum and dad got it for me for my 25th bday, its got white stones set around the face in a pave setting that almost matched the way the diamonds on my wedding and engagement rings

Re being on time if youre a watch wearer - I'm not, ever! And my watch is always set a few mins fast to try and get me to be on time...... :)
