As the last thread is now full...

Oof. That reminds me of the company I used to work for. In the summer of 2006 (I think) that was mega hot, five of us were squeezed into a top-floor office, clad in lead, south-facing. The themostat in the lobby said it was 35degC, and as you went into our office you were hit by a wall of heat. It must have been at least 40deg. Sweated constantly. We had to take it in turns working from home. Still, that's start-ups for you... And cheapskate bosses.

herbaceous · 03/08/2011 09:54

AND, here's a crepey symptom we have yet to discuss: nipple hair. I just had to deal sternly with an INGROWING example with tweezers.

Oh Herby. How, er, disconcerting.

My period has arrived (roughly on time for These Days, as opposed to the days when I could count on its clockwork cycle*) so perhaps I will be a bit less bloated and self-pitying on holiday. Must Pack. Ahem.

*Or so I thought. Ho yes

wilbur · 03/08/2011 13:09

Am doing my taxes. Staring longingly at the lovely sunny, child-free garden. I could be sitting out there with a drink.

Still, on Saturday we will be heading for the S of France, where there will be much sitting around with a drink in the sun. Bliss. Annoyingly, I totally forgot I had planned to epilate my legs and shaved them this morning on auto-pilot.

Herbs - hairy nipples here too, although thankfully no ingrowing as yet. Ouch. I saw a copy of the Sun for the first time in years the other day, and I actually had to do a double take at Page 3. I had forgotten breasts could looks like that and - although I loathe the topless model thing generally - I have to say they were mighty fine.

herbaceous · 03/08/2011 14:01

Me too! Breasts that aren't the same latitude as elbow are rather lovely, aren't they.

AF arrived today, so certain amount of gloom will hopefully lift. Have three toddlers coming round for 'water play' this afternoon. I forsee a lot of standing by with a small fishing net, in case of poohing accidents.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2011 14:55

This is freaky - are we all getting our AF at the same time (mine came today, a week late, having been happening fortnightly) on Hagsnet, like a bunch of nuns?

I don't want to discuss hairy nipples or saggy breasts. I used to live next door to Ann Widdecombe and her ample bosom used to come below the waistband on her skirt. Never a good look.

Am supposed to be working from home this afternoon, but have only had three emails all day - one from my Belgian colleague who said "I have a bottle of rose in the fridge - come and have a glass" (so I did) and another one from a friend asking if I wanted to meet for lunch (which I did, post wine) and another one about public sector terms and conditions relating to pay and pensions in the EU. Which was work.

OP posts:
wilbur · 03/08/2011 15:26

That sounds like my kind of working day (apart from the EU pensions which would have scared me a bit).

And, for the record, I don't have saggy breasts, per se, as they are small and still pass the pencil test. But they are concave and lacking in substance now Sad. When I wear padded bras that have a life of their own, they sort of slosh around in the bottom. Poor old boobs.

Taxes are coming along, a satisfying number of paperclipped piles has appeared. Taking a break now.

herbaceous · 03/08/2011 18:49

Mine aren't that saggy ? I think, I haven't dared the pencil test ? but just larger than they were, and thus less gainly. I've got narrow shoulders, and they don't really go with boobage.

Well, operation waterplay in the garden was a success. Well, DS spent it inside watching telly, and moaning, but the girl I stalked on Facebook came, as did two NCT pals. And all have problems with friends moving away or, even worse, missing them out of inivitations.

It's almost as if we've spent the past two years in a baby bubble, and now we've raised our heads above the parapet - to mix a metaphor - and are ready for some adult action, the world's gone and damned well moved on without us.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2011 19:24

I could get the pencil case and the school rucksack under mine. SadBlush

I'm with MrsS. I stuff small items of shopping under mine when I run out of bag space. Grin

I have utterly horrendous period pain - have had nurofen and paracetamol and codeine and nothing is touching it. Have also thrown up. And am flooding. Sad

OP posts:
Stropperella · 04/08/2011 14:44

That sounds grim, MrsS, I hope you feel better soon.

mittenkitten · 04/08/2011 15:12

Oh no Mrs S. That is just awful.

Since hitting peri (or so was blithely claimed without benefit of any actual blood test whatsoever) I have had nausea, splitting headaches, slight fever, body aches most months. Am now on Chinese herbs. Had two good months on them to the point where I came on w/o any warning! and then cut back on the dose and had a bad month and mid-cycle bleeding. Now back on full dose, waiting for AF this month to see where I am with it as in a way this will be a good test of whether it was the herbs that were helping.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/08/2011 15:59

Doc gave me mefenamic acid which helps as much as lemonade with the flooding and the cramps. Feel really rough still. Cat is giving me the paw of sympathy.

OP posts:
Stropperella · 04/08/2011 16:24

I find Tranexamic acid works wonders with flooding - mefenamic did nothing for me either.

CointreauVersial · 04/08/2011 17:38

Wa-hooo! Finished work this afternoon, don't have to go back until Monday 15th - I am officially ON HOLIDAY.

Just had a chap round to tell us about solar panels - oh, the irony, we stood outside in the pouring rain peering up at the roof on what has been an otherwise scorching week. I'm not sure what to expect weatherwise in Devon next week, but funnily enough I hope it's not too hot if I'm spending each day trussed up in a lifejacket/safety harness/helmet etc etc. I have remembered to epilate my legs, but must tackle the knicker-spiders if I'm not going to frighten small children at the swimming pool.

Herbs, it sounds like your afternoon social was a success. Trust me, one day you will look back fondly on the "baby bubble". Actually, you probably won't remember much about it, to be honest.

Anyway, best get on, lots to do, lots to do.....

herbaceous · 04/08/2011 19:48

Ah the baby bubble. It has been the happiest two years of my life, so far, so a bit of a comedown is only to be expected! Went to best-friend's house for the last time today, before she moves away, and cried all the way back in the car. I don't seem to like change, unless I'm the one doing it!

Some new clothes arrived off that there internet this afternoon - three Great Plains dresses, greatly reduced in the sale. Grand total £41. The 14's a smidge too big, and the 12s a smidge too small. At least on the belly. I'll probably keep them all, to account for all future sizes I may become!

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/08/2011 20:13

Hoicks up size 20 18 jeans and glares at Herbs in Envy

I don't like change either. Which is a bit rich for someone who moves every 3-4 years, and has done since the age of 21.

OP posts:
Stropperella · 04/08/2011 21:14

Have a fabulous holiday, CV. And give me a wave as you zoom past on your way to Devon. (Am next door, in Dorset :))

I have been working the superannuated hooker look today in a denim mini and leggings. But it has made dh all pesky. Tragically, I look better in a denim mini and leggings than I do in any dress I have ever owned. All dresses make me look like a large soft furnishing item. I have often wondered why this is.

Stropperella · 04/08/2011 21:18

ps: I am a smidge under 5' 3" and a size 10-12, with the colouring common to all ageing celts (grizzled sandy). Anyone got any dress recommendations?
