Hooray for the return of the prodigal jumper! Well, one of them, anyway. :)

Does the transcribing error on Blackduck junior's report mean that he has now got good results across the board?
We have to go and be "entertained" by ds's music group tomorrow morning. Followed by having a friend of his back for lunch and then take both of them plus another one to another friend's party in the afternoon. I am looking forward to a nice glass of wine tomorrow evening. Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/07/2011 22:20

I am exhausted. I have spent the day with my mother and the DDs on a boat going up and down the Seine and buying DD2 yet more clothes in BHV sale.

This evening my mother wanted to look at my cousins on FB. It was very wearing: Me: That's Mark's son, Dave - doesn't he look like him? Her: Mark doesn't have a son! Why does it say Dave B? He's been dead for years! Me: No, you have met Mark's son - you met him at Lynne's 50th. He was named after your brother who died. Her: He doesn't look anything like Mark! And I'm sure I've never met him. [I moved on at this point, but it continued in the same vein]

We then watched the documentary about the Manchester Jewish Community, which she hadn't managed to see last week. At this point, you need to know that my mother's family are Jewish, but they all deny this, despite my great grandparents speaking Yiddish. We saw a 13 year old boy and a 12 year old girl having their bar and bat mitzvah. She said "My older brother had a bar mitzvah, but I never had anything like that." "Oh?" I said. "I thought you weren't Jewish?" "We're not," she said swiftly. "But I think everyone had them in those days." Confused (She also criticised the size of the kneidlach in the chicken soup. Grin)

I feel like I am having conversations in some kind of parallel universe.

Courage, MrsS Grin and Grin Grin at "everyone" having bar mitzvahs "in those days"

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/07/2011 22:41

I was wondering if that was when God, or perhaps Moses, was a boy? GrinGrinGrin (My great gran used to say "Golly Moses!" as her exclamation of choice.)

Stropp - yes good results across the board. It was the recorder playing that particularly did for dp - he said he thought torture was illegal! Sounds like you will NEED the wine. We are still on the swimming, stagecoach, spanish round.

MrsS :) - she sound challenging :) As an aside, it reminds me of my nephew announcing 'Mummy is a Hindu (true), I'm a Christian (possible) and Daddy is a Jew (no, catagorically not)' He would not be shifted from this and we have no idea why he thought it!!

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2011 09:20

BD, well done to your DS - glad to hear it was a positive outcomeSmile

MrsS, you poor thing - when does she go? Grin

DS took DH and I by surprise last night when he burst into tears at the end of the band perfomance - his cornet teacher of 3 years is retiring. He must have cried for a good 15minsSad
Of course, I think the man must be a saint for persevering with DS who is not naturally musical, but it just shows how stark the contrast is with DS's class teacher(also male) who he hates with a passion. One is gentle, positive, fun, etc. The other isn't. Thankfully he has a different class teacher next year, who was one of DD's favourites.

Blackduck · 16/07/2011 09:47

Yes BTM was a good outcome. And dp is far more subtle about the whole thing than I would have been! Good to know he is where we thought he was, but I take your point about novels and am trying to find stuff that may be hooks into his history fascination in the hope he might read them.

It is absolutely PEEING down here - how about where everyone else is?

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2011 10:45

BD, both my DC love history too and DD has read loads of historical novels. DS particularly likes ones about the wars Grin

It's peeing down here too - not good as we have 2 parties to go to today, and the first is a garden/house party, with lots of large children!

thenightsky · 16/07/2011 10:58

I've just got back from 2 weeks diving/snorkelling in Egypt/Israel area. I am SO glad to see you are all still here.

Bad news is... put on 6lb and have a tan that is turning reptilian now Sad

And it's pissing it down outside.

DH has declared we are off out to look at new sofas with a view to buying (hurray) We need leather for wear and tear reasons, but I'm skeptical about naffness (or not) of leather Hmm

herbaceous · 16/07/2011 11:24

I think leather's acceptable if the style is v plain. Any hint of ruching and you're in trouble.

I got a couple of leather sofas from (shock horror) DFS. They were in the 'returns' warehouse, so had the advantage of being a) about a third of the usual price and b) battered and thus 'vintage' looking.

thenightsky · 16/07/2011 11:27

DFS is the nearest purveyer of sofas to us, so we'll go there first.

Agree re the ruching.

herbaceous · 16/07/2011 12:46

Check out the discount area - a veritable treasure trove. At least, it was at the Enfield branch...

I've got a concert tonight, to which we can wear 'pretty summer frocks' rather than the usual long black skirts. Seems such a shame the weather's so shit.

thenightsky · 16/07/2011 14:39

Rain stopped here now and it's almost sunny.. you'll be fine for summer dress by this evening.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/07/2011 21:24

thenightsky - you need La Roche Posay's Posthelios. It has dealt with my lizardy feet a treat.

Can I recommend the following place to buy a sofa? It is in Northampton, but they might deliver further afield - www.thesofaking.co.uk They used to advertise under the slogan "Our prices are Sofa King low!" Grin but trading standards stopped them. Grin When we moved to Miw'on Keynes, we got a Habitat sofa from them for 90 quid, which was still retailing in Habitat for 400.

I am losing the will to live, but have congratulated myself on having an itinerary for the week, so that I can say, today we are doing X. It is the only thing that works. I have just heard all about the out of hours doctor "who was a nignog Shock ShockShock but quite nice."

thenightsky · 16/07/2011 21:42

MrsS... me and DH falling about laughing at 'Sofa King low' prices Grin

DH got a wee bit carried away at the browsing of sofas today TBH. Ended up with 2 Lazyboy expensive jobs, or 'Joey from Friends chairs' as he calls them.

But he did take me for expensive lunch on way home at posh country club stylee place. Yum.

Bonsoir · 16/07/2011 22:03

MrsSchadenfreude - send them to Neuilly pool - it's straight up the road from Porte de Champerret on the 163 or 164 bus (four stops to Inkermann-Bineau) and they can spend all day there. And there are hunky maîtres nageurs who can give swimming lessons (EUR 15 for half an hour) if you ask nicely!

Blackduck · 17/07/2011 07:00

Bonsoir - I think MrsS is having problems with her mother, not the children....do they drown grandmothers for a fee?

Bonsoir · 17/07/2011 07:38

Further down the thread she wanted to occupy her DDs - my DD has recently discovered the maîtres nageurs at Neuilly pool....

Blackduck · 17/07/2011 08:28

I know -was a joke

Blackduck · 17/07/2011 08:52

MrsS my FIL (generally nice in all other ways) refers to anyone of Asian (Indian/pakistani/Bangladeshi) as 'ethnics' Makes me and dp cringe (particularly as I have an Indian sister in law...

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/07/2011 11:43

Have not been to Neuilly pool - I as thinking of sending them to Piscine Champerret on their own a few times, and then going with them to Neuilly, so that they know where they are going! DH is a bit Hmm about them going swimming on their own, but they are 10 and nearly 13 and can both swim, so I don't think it's an entirely risky venture.

Ruby - any chance they would delay job interview or do phone interview?
